Obama meets 5 top progressive bloggers in White House, including Joe Sudbay of AMERICAblog by John Aravosis (DC) on 10/27/2010 03:00:00 PM
President Obama invited a small group of five top Democratic political bloggers to a private meeting at the White House today. The group includes Joe Sudbay of AMERICAblog, John Amato of Crooks & Liars, Oliver Willis of OliverWillis.com, Barbara Morrill of DailyKos, and Duncan Black (aka Atrios) of Eschaton.

Theory here about the World Series which begins tonight. This is a classic Dem/liberal versus Rep/conservative matchup. San Francisco the consumate liberal bastion, and Texas the team once owned by the barbarian war criminal, half-wit, pampered, silver spoon jack-ass, Shrub.
There are five games scheduled to play before election day. If San Francisco has the lead in wins, the Democrats will not suffer the bloodbath being predicted. If the Rangers are up, the Democrats will still not suffer the blood bath being predicted.

An open letter to Gloria Estefan
By Victoria Jackson
Miami is my hometown. When I was born at Hialeah Hospital in 1959, you were 2 years old and moving here from Cuba, to escape Communism.
America and its freedom, free enterprise and capitalism gave you the opportunity to become a superstar, to be financially and vocationally successful.
America is now under siege by a Marxist, progressive, leftist, radical, socialist, communist dictator drunk with power. His name is Obama.
You invited him to your home on April 15, 2010, for a Democratic fundraiser.
1. His parents were communists. His grandparents were communists. His childhood mentor Frank Davis was a communist.
2. He had “Marxist professors.” He taught a class on Saul Alinsky whose book “Rules for Radicals” is dedicated to Lucifer.
3. His college records are sealed.
4. He claims to be a Christian yet ridicules Scripture, denies Jesus is the only way to salvation, supports partial-birth abortion and attended a church for 20 years pastored by Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who did not teach Christianity but “Black Liberation Theology,” which is Marxism disguised as religion.
5. He is friends with radicals and communists like William Ayers and has appointed many of them to positions of power – Sunstein, Jarrett, Van Jones, etc.
6. He told Joe the Plumber on the campaign trail that his philosophy was to “spread the wealth.” This is a direct quote from “The Communist Manifesto” written by Karl Marx and Fredrich Engels.
7. When he entered office he immediately took over the banks, the auto industry, health care (by bribery) and is intent on ending freedom of speech on the Internet, radio and TV by fees and fines. He is intent on using the myth of human-caused global warming to usurp control over our energy by Cap ‘n Tax, which would limit the number of minutes we take a shower and the kind of light bulbs we use.
8. His arrogant, excessive spending, with his stimulus laws and over-taxation, is destroying our economy, the middle class and our children’s future quality of life.
You had the audacity to invite this communist over to your home to raise money for the Democratic Party, which is controlling Congress and giving him unlimited power to achieve his goal of making our once-free country a welfare state, just like the Cuba you left.
(Column continues below)
You are either uninformed, ignorant or crazy.
Estudio Espanol dos anos en mi escuela secundario, y I think you are loco en la cabeza.
I ask my Cuban friends and neighbors what happened to you. Don’t you remember where you came from? Your father in a Cuban communist jail? They shake their heads sadly.
You spit on the free country that gave you the American Dream.
I urge you to educate yourself on what is happening in America today. Nov. 2 is the most serious vote of our nation’s history. We will vote in either liberty or tyranny.
How can you vote in tyranny when your family and friends risked their lives on rafts to escape it?
I don’t understand you.
Sincerely,
Victoria Jackson (“Saturday Night Live” cast member 1986-1992 because of capitalism/freedom)

Recent drilling results indicate that the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska contains roughly a tenth of the oil that federal scientists had previously estimated, the U.S. Geological Survey announced Tuesday.
Instead, the federal agency said, natural gas is the dominant energy resource in the 23 million-acre reserve across northern Alaska, and in nearby state waters. The findings are based on more than 30 wells drilled and other exploration in the NPRA over the past decade.
The agency’s findings are in sync with declining investment by some oil companies, which have shed more than a million acres of leases in the reserve and are spending much less money on purchasing new ones.

The claim Reichert voted for “more spending” and “more debt” is just not true, which is why she doesn’t cite it.
It is also false that she is against debt spending – without getting into the debate of whether or not the stimulus worked – the stimulus was $787 billion of straight debt spending.

Obviously because it’s their side that’s going to perpetrate it – big time:
One race that probably won’t be close on Tuesday is the one between South Carolina’s Republican Sen. Jim DeMint and his Democratic opponent Alvin Greene. DeMint is expected to destroy Greene, the candidate who, until last June’s primary, had no campaign, no campaign Web site, no money, no cell phone, no job, and lived with his father. Nobody had ever heard of Greene until the state’s ES&S iVotronic touch-screen machines declared him the winner over longtime legislator and former Circuit Court Judge Vic Rawl, who had a campaign with hundreds of volunteers.
The chamber says it does receive money from foreign sources, but that it amounts to only a small fraction of the chamber’s $200 million budget. The chamber says none of the foreign money is used in its ads, and no evidence has been produced to show otherwise. Federal Election Commission opinions state that organizations taking in foreign money may make political donations legally, so long as they have “a reasonable accounting method” to keep foreign money separate and have enough money from U.S. sources to cover the donations.
Why do they have to accept a plug nickel?? And why don’t they agree to transparency???? Could it be they’re lying and hiding something?

Blue Johnspews:
How’s that conservative fiscal ideology working for Texas? Let’s see…
—-
Legislature likely to cut deep to meet possible $25 billion budget gap
AUSTIN – Texas faces a budget crisis of truly daunting proportions, with lawmakers likely to cut sacrosanct programs such as education for the first time in memory and to lay off hundreds if not thousands of state workers and public university employees.
Texas’ GOP leaders, their eyes on the Nov. 2 election, have played down the problem’s size, even as the hole in the next two-year cycle has grown in recent weeks to as much as $24 billion to $25 billion. That’s about 25 percent of current spending.
The bottom line: Public schools, college students and government employees, not just poor and needy Texans, might very well lose money, grants, benefits and even livelihoods during and after next year’s legislative session.
…
Ongoing expenses, including property tax cuts passed four years ago, cost between $95 billion and $100 billion in state funds, now that a federal flow of stimulus cash is winding down.
The looming gap, though, is massive. It far exceeds the $9.9 billion shortfall lawmakers solved in 2003, and some of the tools they used then are no longer available. Craymer, the former gubernatorial aide, said seven years ago the state could reduce Medicaid eligibility and benefits.”That now appears to be prohibited by the [federal] health care reform act,” he said. Also, lawmakers offset a tight budget for higher education in 2003 by ceding to campuses control over tuition and fees, which have skyrocketed. “So that tool has been used,” he said, adding,
“Many people forget that in 2003, we got $1.3 billion in ‘free’ federal money that was a part of a federal bill to help the states. It would appear that the federal spigot is now off.”
“We’ve been following a path of trying to be the cheapest state to do business in,” Hochberg said. “To the extent we continue … we’re destined to be behind not only the rest of the world, but other states in our ability to be economically prosperous.”
—
What I got from this is, the state will be firing lots of employees and providing less services. I find it appalling that they would have slashed medicare to the people who needed it. No more socialist money sharing from the Feds. They will slash investments in education, in their future. This is what the conservative want for America. I see this as spiraling down into a 3rd world state. What do you see it as?

Larry Sabato’s final projections are in and the University of Virginia professor sees Republicans gaining 55 seats in the House and 8 in the Senate. In the Illinois and Colorado Senate races, new polling shows that Republican candidates maintain a modest edge in races that are still very competitive. Overall, the Rasmussen Reports Election 2010 Balance of Power summary shows Democrats likely to end up with 48 seats and Republicans with 45. Seven Senate races remain Toss-Ups (California, Colorado, Illinois, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Washington, and West Virginia). Republicans need to win six of the seven Toss-Ups to win control.

It did not used to be that way. Loans used to be held by the company that made the loan – and it made the mortgage companies responsible for their own money. Before the recent banking reform act, they did not care if the loan was bad or good – it was all about numbers and bundling loans to sell off. so they pushed sub-prime loans that they knew were bad and lied on the forms – becuase housing porices were going to go up forever, right?
But Phil Gramm and the banking lobby wrote the credit default and other banking “reform” bills that led to the mortgage crisis.
Phil Gramm was a republican senator from Texas and a leader of the “free market” movement, against government regulation and a champion of the banks and wall street corporations.
But you knew all that already – right Sarah?

Cyn, it’s been nearly two years! What would be surprising is if he were to have retained his abnormally high post-inauguration job approval, especially for anyone presiding over the “worst depression in 80 years” that he inherited (it began in Dec. 2007). His job approval is comparable to Clinton and/or Reagan at similar points in their presidencies. Not strange, abnormally low, nor unexpected at all.
It’s only you who wakes up every day as if everything is new and nothing has ever happened before this.
Did you know that Saint Ronnie raised taxes several times and STILL added about $3 trillion to the national debt? Unprecedented!

Mr. Cynically Crazyspews:
@67 You’re are TRULY stupid. You KEEP pointing out over and over and over that Obama is as popular as Ronald Reagan…and MUCH more popular than the last Republican moron, Bush. Why? Why do you keep pointing out how much more the public likes Obama than the last 2 Republicans (not even counting caretaker HW). Strange. And Bush had the same fall from unrealistic post 9/11 “high” to a NEVER BEFORE SEEN WORST POLLING NUMBERS IN HISTORY EVER….Obama isn’t even close to being as unpopular as the last time Republicans ran things. He might not be super popular but FAR more popular than your last try. Why do you keep pointing that out?
Now on another point…another crazy anti-reality anti-science anti-rational Republican. Every day is something crazier than the last. So Christine O’Donnell is mad that people laughed at her when she questioned that the separation of church and state is in the Constitution. So instead of slinky back to idiot town, she’s pulling a Sarah Palin and doubling down on her stupid. Her campaign manager is offering a $1000 “reward” if someone can find the phrase “separation of church and state” in the Constitution.
Seriously. O’Donnell is truly one of the dumbest people on the planet, and that’s saying a lot. That PHRASE isn’t a Constitutional text, it’s a newspaper pop culture phrase invented to sum up the 1st Amendments statement about religion…it’s not the text IN the Constitution you moron. I’ll give you $1 BILLION dollars if you can find the phrase “private gun ownership” in the Constitution…or even the word “gun”. See! It’s not there, you have no right to a private gun. Clearly. Right? Of course that’s NOT the text used to explain your gun rights, it’s something rambling about militias and “arms” and stuff. If the 1st Amendment is clear enough, you can read all the papers and letters of the founding fathers you get the exact intent of this church and state thing.
From the very beginning of our nation the separation was explicit. They went out of their way to explicitly say you can’t even apply a religious test to government office. The modern things you think about when you think God and government, things like mentioning god in the pledge of allegiance or adding “In God We Trust” on our money, weren’t ideas of our founding fathers. These were later additions by sleazy politicians (like O’Donnell and Palin) trying to kiss ass to the religious freaks…which the founding fathers worked to escaped from (re: Church of England)

And Ms. Panil and O’Donnell? Be careful about your crazy. You think everything should just be about the magical wisdom of our founding fathers, and you’re not so sure about later additions like civil rights or such tacked on later by the “liberals”. Well “ladies”…shut up. You have no rights. You can’t run for office. You can’t vote. That’s how our founding fathers wanted it anyway. These brilliant men didn’t think you, mere “women” should have the right to vote and certainly couldn’t be in Congress or (laugh) run for President. Be careful about HOW far “back” you want to turn the country “ladies”. The hippy liberal women’s lib movement gave you the power to vote and the positions (out of the home/kitchen) you even aspire to now. The “conservatives” of the time of course didn’t want change and thought the way things “had been” were just fine…now irony or irony you’re on that team.
ROTFLMAO
PRICELESS!
If “turning back the clock” to the 1950s or 40’s is good, then it’s even BETTER to turn it back to the TRUE Constitutionalists, the guys who actually wrote it, and then Sarah and Christine can just shut up and go back to the kitchen and make babies. Or are you saying it’s ok for a women to show her ankles in public? Or be seen with a man who’s not her husband outside of the house? So NOW you’re “relativists” who just go along with whatever is “popular” now a days.

Election 2010: Washington Senate
Washington Senate: Rossi (R), Murray (D) Tied
Thursday, October 28, 2010
Republican Dino Rossi and incumbent Democrat Patty Murray are separated by a single point in the U.S. Senate race in Washington with less than a week until Election Day.
The latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters shows Rossi picking up 48% of the vote, while Murray draws support from 47%
I still think Murray is likely ahead by a point or 2. But ImamObaMao and his lovely bride, MOOCHelle along with village idiot Biden and punch-drunk Clinton haven’t helped Murray a lick.

Anyway, Americans are tired of folks on both sides stealing their money and giving it away to someone in hopes of getting their vote. That’s true on both sides.
Being a numbers guy, the only way out of this mess is to not increase spending for several years…meaning goring someone’s ox.
If the R’s don’t address this pending collapse, they will get the boot too. Frankly, we have to cut government pensions, modify SS and Medicare benefits etc. Things no one has the balls to do. Right? We can possibly grow our way out of part of this mess…but not all of it. The Tea Party has had a profound impact on these elections…admit it or not. And Obama screwed the pooch for progressives when he & his henchmen made the decision to mock & ridicule. Had Obama engage the smaller-government movement in meaningful debate, you would not see the Democrat bloodbath now and in 2012. Really, you would be better off if Obama did not run for re-election and someone less rancid stepped in…someone with less emotional & psychological problems than Obama (which is pretty much any of you KLOWNS!)

It started with Reagan busting the Air Traffic Controllers Union and ended with so little regulation of the banks and the mortgage industry that NO ONE KNOWS WHO OWNS THESE NOTES.
THINK about that. The integrity of one American Ideal held sacred…marketed and sold to investors the world over as “same as cash” has been ruined. Ruined by “oh the market will regulate itself”.
BULLSHIT. Pure bullshit.
Add Katrina…add the Gulf Spill. We need to spend, spend and spend more on infrastructure. That would create jobs
right now
. Infrastructure is a CAPITAL INVESTMENT that creates a RETURN on that investment (ever HEARD of ROI????). Corporate tax loopholes MUST be slammed shut. Marginal tax rates MUST be increased. A trade policy that PROTECTS American JOBS before corporate PROFITS
MUST
be enacted.
The American middle class must be rebuilt and K through college education must be fully funded. Rsearch and devolopment in technologies of all types must be encouraged by tax incentives and grants.
Health Care MUST be fully funded to make American Industry competitive with the rest of the developed world.
THAT’S what needs to happen and the Republican Party won’t do it. They won’t do ANYTHING. The republicans in congress have not put forward ONE initiative that adresses ANYTHING.

“riding in the back of the bus!” is how racists say it, which is why your Faux News clown pundits created that meme and why you, ld, repeat it.
They dog whistle, and you pee yourself and go running. You and your fellow racist haters would love to move up to the front of the bus based upon race because you have neither the intellect, work ethic nor stones to get ahead without discriminating against others based on race, sex or religious beliefs.
Obama didn’t say “back of the bus”, and even Faux News knew that.
You, ld, sit in back because you lack the candle power and work ethic necessary to get ahead. Sux to be you. :,(

You are so dumb that it is funny just reading the rightwingnut crap you write and it is so easy to completely dismantle the third-grade shallow arguments you make. What is so nice about your rantings, is that your poor reasoning ability and shallow thinking are representative of the tea party fools and rightwingnutcases who can only lie, obfuscate or call names (such as calling Obama a name in almost every post – or railing against “liberals” for some imagined half-witted poor example that is easily refuted).

Sequoia and Diebold were easy targets.
Then the ‘Crats seemed to win for a change in 2006 and 2008, with a lot of help from SEIU and the New Black Panthers. No more hysterical shrieking about jiggered voting machines. Problem solved.

That’s when the woman was fatally stabbed on capital hill. As news reports came in, the TV camera panned over her belongings on the sidewalk, including a shopping bag from a store known for being environmentally friendly.

@71: Umm, Patty Murray is brilliant next to Reichert- even the Seattle Times says the guy is incoherent and does not understand even the most basic issue – he did not even know what the Glass-Steagall acts was in the context of a banking question.
Murray knows what the act was and understands the basics of the banking crisis – something most tea party fools have no clue about.
Who wrote the legislation that allowed credit-default swaps so that banks could bundle bad loans and sell them off with no responsibility?
Ever wonder why your original home load gets moved so much nowadays and the original mortgage company can sell it off to someone else to service?

His job approval is comparable to Clinton and/or Reagan at similar points in their presidencies. Not strange, abnormally low, nor unexpected at all.

Mr. Cynically Crazy spews:

If the R’s don’t address this pending collapse, they will get the boot too. Frankly, we have to cut government pensions, modify SS and Medicare benefits etc. Things no one has the balls to do. Right? be enacted.
The American middle class must be rebuilt and K through college education must be fully funded. Rsearch and devolopment in technologies of all types must be encouraged by tax incentives and grants.
Health Care MUST be fully funded to make American Industry competitive with the rest of the developed world.
