– Am I being a dick with open thread titles? Someone asked for dates so you could distinguish one from the other, and sometimes I do these things that amuse me, but — I sort of assume — nobody else. At least there haven’t been puns in a little while!
– Everyone raising money makes me uncomfortable, even as I understand it’s necessary in politics, but there’s something about the anti-Sawant people.
– The fuck, Denny Hastert?
– I’m always a bit skeptical when organizations change their names. The Committee to End Homelessness had a name that laid out a really ambitious agenda. No, they haven’t come anywhere near meeting that, but it’s better to fail than to not try.

You should be. Usually when something like a name changes, it’s because things aren’t going the way they were predicted to go.
Cumulatively, from 2009 through Tuesday, Republicans mentioned global warming 1,338 times and climate change 1,243 times. Democrats mentioned climate change 3,584 times and global warming just 865 times.

@1 How is Denny Hastert doing? I see you don’t have anything to say about him. You think maybe he’d like to change his name, maybe for $1,000,000?
Teabagger in Decline spews:
A little more Nazism from the GOP. Boob, did you ever complain about dictatorship, even when in reality there wasn’t any?
GOP = Less Free = Nazis

That whole Arkansas crowd (Duggars, Gothard, Greens, Huckabee, etc.) breathes life into the “Arkie” jokes I’ve heard over the years. For example:
Joke #1: You can tell you’re sitting next to an Arkansas family in a restaurant. The father keeps yelling at his 12-year-old daughter to stop smoking at the meal table, because she’s setting a bad example for her kids.
Joke #2: I once met a guy from Arkansas who complained he’s been married four times but still has the same in-laws.
Don’t even get me started on Montana and goats, or Enumclaw and horses.

Doctor Bob sez, “Usually when something like a name changes, it’s because things aren’t going the way they were predicted to go.”
NASA sez, “Its first use was in a 1975 Science article by geochemist Wallace Broecker of Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Geological Observatory: “Climatic Change: Are We on the Brink of a Pronounced Global Warming?”
Broecker’s term was a break with tradition. Earlier studies of human impact on climate had called it “inadvertent climate modification.”2 This was because while many scientists accepted that human activities could cause climate change, they did not know what the direction of change might be. Industrial emissions of tiny airborne particles called aerosols might cause cooling, while greenhouse gas emissions would cause warming. Which effect would dominate?
For most of the 1970s, nobody knew. So “inadvertent climate modification,” while clunky and dull, was an accurate reflection of the state of knowledge.
The first decisive National Academy of Science study of carbon dioxide’s impact on climate, published in 1979, abandoned “inadvertent climate modification.” Often called the Charney Report for its chairman, Jule Charney of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, declared: “if carbon dioxide continues to increase, [we find] no reason to doubt that climate changes will result and no reason to believe that these changes will be negligible.”3
In place of inadvertent climate modification, Charney adopted Broecker’s usage. When referring to surface temperature change, Charney used “global warming.” When discussing the many other changes that would be induced by increasing carbon dioxide, Charney used “climate change.”
But global warming became the dominant popular term in June 1988, when NASA scientist James E. Hansen had testified to Congress about climate, specifically referring to global warming.”

Sadly, I suspect the one-two punch of Duggar and Hastert was just too much for what was left of Puddy’s mind.
Jack spews:
Denny Hastert was a wrestling coach at an Ohio high school. He allegedly sexually abused smoke person, and was paying “keep quiet” money to his victim over the years.
I think it’s the wrestling tights – they trigger some home-erotic dominance issues with some people. Maybe Hastert was susceptible to these things.
Jack spews:
Typo, change “smoke” to “some.”

Another Jerry Sanduski.
It has become glaringly apparent, exactly why it is that the Republicans want to drown the Federal Government in the bathtub. That is, they just don’t want anyone bothering them when they steal peoples houses, empty their bank accounts or fuck their babies.
The whole goddamn Right-Wing neonazi Christian death cult that the GOP is now, seems mostly to be just a coverup for a giant pedophile rapist/kiddieporn ring.
And they call the queerfolk dangerous.
