– It’s filing week, everybody.
– Is anyone following the British Columbia elections? Joel is disappointed that they aren’t talking about marijuana.
– If you want to tell Metro to save Metro, here’s where to do that.
– Macklemore is not happy with the Thunder using Can’t Hold Us (h/t to Will on Facebook). I’m confused as to if NBC didn’t understand that Detlef Schrempf’s tweet contained a pun, or why else they put the [sic].
– Y’all are reading about Tom Hardy and a puppy, I hope.
– In yesterday’s Open Thread, I said Thomas Friedman was beyond satire. I stand corrected.

We all knew that The Newt was an idiot who was lucky enough to have a gift for turning a phrase. But now he’s released a You-Tube video where he demonstrates that he doesn’t even know what a Smart Phone is:
“We’re really puzzled here at Gingrich Productions. We’ve spent weeks trying to figure out: What do you call this? I know, you probably think it’s a cell phone…But if it’s taking pictures, it’s not a cell phone.”

On the BC Election, I have, and brought it up, especially when puddybud was on his name calling. At least on the local level, the American conservative definition of Liberals ends at the Peace Arch. The BC Liberals are actually a center-right party. On the marijuana front it was brought up at the debate. The BC Liberals leader changed the subject, the Conservative leader ducked the question, the Green Party leader said treatment over enforcement, the NDP, while mentioning Federal law, came closest for legalization.

On the topic of The Man Beyond Satire, Carl, were you aware of the Thomas Friedman Op/Ed Generator? If you click on that link, you’ll reveal a brand-new epistle from The Mustache of Understanding.

Speaking of Canada…
I followed a link in one of Piper Scott’s postings on Facebook and learned there’s an organization called the Fraser Institute that’s more or less the Great Grey North’s version of the Heritage Foundation. They (and Scott) claim that Canada is facing a looming shortage of doctors because practicing medicine under Canada’s single-payer health plan is a nightmare of overwork and lousy pay. I asked our daughter (who’s been living in Vancouver for over a year) if she’d heard anything about that, and the answer was no. She has plenty of good things to say about how there system works compared to ours. (That is, if you can stretch the definition of the word “system” around the chaotic mess we have here.)

6)Sounds about right, that they would need a think tank to do that. In some cases, the parties don’t have wide differences, that people cross the floor all the time. Alberta’s legislature prior to last year’s election had a couple defections. A couple of Progressive Conservatives, thinking the party leaned to the left, joined the Wildrose Alliance, 1 PC thinking they went to the right to avoid the WA, joined a new Alberta Party, a Liberal joined the PC, and a PC joined the Liberals(and made him the leader). For a province with the same party running the show for 40 years, it was a rough time in Edmonton for a few months.
I first heard of the current BC Liberals, after the 2001 election in a Joel Connelly collumn in the PI. The GOP would have loved that election result.

In British Columbia, the Conservative Party( the actual one, not the governing party that is called the BC Liberals) was caught making robocalls, which cannot be done on election day.

Looks like the BC election has seen a turnaround for the BC Liberals, but it will no longer be a 2 party system in Victoria. A climate scientist running with the Green Party has been elected in the district of Oak Bay-Gordon Head. The incumbent party may have won, but the Liberal Premier is trailing in her district. (I flipped by CBC British Columbia on the TV). She will just have to run in another district at a special election, if she don’t win tonight. The Republicans would have loved this. The polls showed the NDP ahead when the election was called a month ago. The pundits on the CBC are saying a big mistake the NDP made, was to try a positive campaign.
