    “New York has reportedly opened a civil investigation into whether Credit Suisse lied about engineering tax shelters for U.S. citizens. The probe, led by Benjamin Lawsky, New York’s financial services superintendent, adds to one by the Justice Department into the role that Credit Suisse played in helping U.S. citizens evade taxes. The DOJ could fine the bank over $780M, the amount that UBS paid in a similar case.”

    Someday the fines paid by crooked banks for criminal behavior will fund our entire government, and then Republicans won’t have any taxes to complain about.

    A month ago, when Quebec Premier Pauline Marois called the election, she was hoping to turn her Parti Quebecois minority government into a majority, and start the road to Canada’s dissolution, or at least Quebec Independence. Well, Canada survives tonight. The Liberals won 70 seats, PQ 30, and one of the losers, Premier Marois, she lost her seat. Same thing happened to the equivalent at the Federal level in 2011, at the time the Conservatives won their majority and the New Democrats went from the third party to official opposition.
