Late, Late Show host Craig Ferguson, explained to viewers why he decided not to mock the clearly troubled Britney Spears after seeing photos of her shaved head:
“For me, comedy should have a certain amount of joy in it,” Ferguson said. “It should be about attacking the powerful – the politicians, the Trumps, the blowhards – going after them. We shouldn’t be attacking the vulnerable.”
Exactly.
Hmm. Perhaps this explains why there are so few truly funny conservatives?

Speaking of blowhards, ever wonder what Edwards is thinking half the time? First he builds a huge mansion, while talking on the campaign trail about “two Americas”. Then he reaches out to the religious by hiring, then firing, then hiring, then firing, two foul mouthed bigots. Now he is declaring that the biggest danger to the world is Israel. Priceless.
We don’t need funny conservatives. The Dems are a joke in themselves.

Maybe you are full of shit! .Funny conservatives wow!!! Give me a non emotional liberal any day and you will find a great comedian. Goldy you can’t fit the bill because all you liberals only use their emotional side of their brain. No LOGIC, all hot air and no go. Yep anybody can be a comedian except those folks who can’t laugh at themselves. The joke is on you Goldy. You can’t poke fun at a liberal because they practice political correctness. You might hurt their feelings and they will cry, pout, and jump off bridges. Nope liberals got the short end of the stick when it comes to kidding about politics or anything they are sensitive about like the environment.

No one has a problem with conservative LOGIC. It’s your PREMISEs that suck. But you are not logical enough to see that.
John Barelli spews:
Oh, Janet?
Mr. Biden hardly got away with his comments. They didn’t get a lot more air time only because nobody considers him to be a likely candidate, but they were pretty soundly condemned. It was a stupid gaffe, although the full quote is rather innocuous.
Of course, the fact that Mr. Obama’s press people realize that and see no reason to push the matter has a lot to do with that. If Mr. Biden’s opponent in whatever election want to make some hay with that, and his other gaffe about immigrants from India (which was very insensitive and completely uncalled for), they are welcome to go for it.
If Mr. Biden were a serious Republican candidate for President, would we make a bigger deal of it? Sure. Just as you would be if Mr. Obama was a Republican. If you Republicans want to beat him for his Senate seat in 2008, consider running a moderate, pro-choice Republican, and it wouldn’t hurt if that person’s family came from India. (He’s been annoying enough that I’d like to see him get a serious primary challenge for his Senate seat in 2008.)
So, I won’t be voting for him in the primaries, and I sincerely doubt that he’ll get the nomination for either President or Vice President. If he does, I’ll have to at least take a look at whomever you folks nominate, as I would be really unhappy with Mr. Biden as a candidate.
Of course, you folks will probably send up someone like Mr. Hunter, so I’d be stuck voting for Mr. Biden, like him or not.

John Barelli spews:
Ah, Mr. Stupid.
A church raises money among its own congregants for a particular cause. Then it borrows money from that fund to pay ongoing church expenses, while keeping close track of the amounts.
It then repays that money back into the restricted fund when the time comes to make the donations that the fund was designed for come up. Every dime donated goes to the intended purpose. The church borrowed money from one fund to bolster another, rather than borrowing money from the bank.
(Contrary to popular belief, simply throwing money is not a solution to most problems, and charities routinely hold back funds until responsible ways of spending that money for its intended purpose are found.)
I consider this a bad practice, as I’ve sat on church administrative boards, and my church considers those restricted funds to be completely off-limits. Too many things can go wrong, which would prevent the repayment of the loan and hence divert funds from their intended purpose.
Most churches, apparently Overlake Christian among them, have administrative oversight boards made up of church members. It isn’t hard to be elected to these boards. Usually members end up doubling up on positions because there are more jobs to do than volunteers to fill them, and meetings are open to any member of the congregation.
From what I can tell, Overlake Christian adheres to the requirements of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA), although it does not follow what that council calls “best practices”. The basic ECFA rules are stricter than federal regulations.
I’m not a member at Overlake Christian, and I do consider their politics to be rather right-wing. But your grudge against churches does not seem to be political, and if the Washington Democratic Party borrowed money from one fund to bolster another, then repaid the original fund in full when the time came to use the money, I doubt that you would consider it an issue.
Bad business practices are a long stretch from fraud, or even hypocrisy. This was a church issue, and church members (the same folks you’re calling hypocrites) took the people that did this to task for their actions, and made sure that the money went where it was supposed to.
Your comments, however, do smack of hypocrisy. Unless, of course, you were among those that donated money to Overlake Christian and were not satisfied with how the money was used.
Somehow, I doubt that is the case.

Well Janet, I might want to ask. What do you think is an appropriate punishment when a not-terribly-bright man makes a verbal gaffe?
Calling Obama articulate, clean, and a nice guy are not exactly damning words. Saying he is the first African American candidate to have those qualities is neither accurate nor a good choice of phrasing.
Would you personally shun a friend of yours if he called Obama “articulate, clean and a nice guy?”, or do you just like seeing punishment inflicted on people simply because they have a (D) after their name?
If the former, I’d like to hear your reasoning behind it.
If the latter, I’d advise some fresh air and time away from political blogs. I don’t think that way about (R)s, and I have some pretty serious philosophical issues with (R)s in general.
For what it’s worth, P.J. O’Rourke, a very funny guy, was playing straight the other day on CBC’s As It Happens, waxing forth on Adam Smith’s “The Wealth of Nations” along with some digs on what he sees as failings of leftist ideology. He and I see liberalism differently. Just the same, you can check him out here. He’s always worth the listening.

Hi, christmasghost.
Yes, Mr. Stupid does prove that being liberal does not equate to being either smart or reasonable.
Don’t laugh too hard, for every Mr. Stupid, you folks have a Mr. Redneck.
Mr. Stupid the one that keeps preaching that we Democrats need to lie and cheat and do whatever it takes to win elections, regardless of the consequences. He also seems to be of the impression that anyone to the right of Lenin is a Republican at heart. He seems to be of the impression that the Democrats lost the last election.
Of course, from his perspective, they did. Many of the Democrats currently serving in both the State and Federal governments are much too right-wing for him. Certainly none of the State Legislators from my area (Derek Kilmer, Pat Lantz and Larry Seaquist) are to his liking.
Nationally, Norm Dicks and Maria Cantwell are both (from his perspective) practically Republicans, and Nancy Pelosi is an obvious DINO because she actually speaks to them.
They’re all way too reasonable, and are actually willing to work with the Republicans, whenever they can find common ground. To his thinking, that makes them traitors.
(It must get pretty lonely over in Mr. Stupid’s party, since 95% of the folks that vote Democratic agree with us, and he’s out their shouting at the wind.)
One of the things that the folks on the fringes of both sides seem to agree on is that they have absolutely no use for moderates. Anyone who is willing to even consider that there might be valid points made by the other side is simply a traitor to the cause, and is to be attacked with even more vehemence than the other side. I think he’d be happier in the Socialist Workers Party, but they don’t have an active chapter here (to my knowledge).
Mr. Redneck and Mr. Stupid have far more in common with each other than either does with any reasonable human being.
If Mr. Stupid’s three “real Dem” friends don’t want to do business with me, that’s ok. I’m sure he doesn’t like any of the candidates I helped get elected, either.
Oh, and Mr. Stupid? I’ll be helping them get elected again. Good luck out there on the far-left fringe, and say hello to Mr. Redneck for me.
