I saw a countdown clock to St. Patrick’s Day recently that had days, hours, and minutes. I realized that it’s counting down to Midnight on St. Pat’s. I may be a bit of a prude, but I suspect that if anyone is in a bar at 11:59 on an weekday, they’re not waiting on the holiday to start drinking. I mean, I get that it’s a big drinking day but I think there’s time enough to not have to be up to the minute.
Also, please don’t yell “wooooooooooo” right outside my apartment. What? You’ll yell “woooooooooo” wherever you damn well please? OK.

The five sheriff’s deputies who failed to arrest him, and instead tackled the already-in-custody (black) protester, have been disciplined with demotions and suspensions without pay. As for the sucker-puncher, he was arrested and charged the next day.

The Economist calls a Trump presidency a “global risk”:
“A British research organization has warned that a Donald Trump presidency could have a dangerous impact on the world economy, increasing the potential of Islamic terror attacks and of a trade war with Mexico and China. The Economist Intelligence Unit released its updated global risk assessment, ranking the election of Trump a 12 on a scale of one to 25 — the same number it assigned to the possibility that jihadi terrorism would destabilize the global economy.”
And the Washington Post editorial board calls Trump “a threat to American democracy”:
“Mr. Trump resembles other strongmen throughout history who have achieved power by manipulating democratic processes,” the editorial board wrote. “Their playbook includes a casual embrace of violence; a willingness to wield government powers against personal enemies; contempt for a free press; demonization of anyone who is not white and Christian; intimations of dark conspiracies; and the propagation of sweeping, ugly lies.”

It’s not trump, if vast swaths of the republican voters did not value what trump promotes, he would be nowhere in the polls. Republicans have to give a different message to the people voting for trump.
If republicans were serious, they would have fox news and every politician and every bit of conservative media and social media telling their audience to the wrongness of the trump message, to reject violence and promote non violence; reject government powers used against personal enemies; support a free press; promote acceptance of those who is not white and Christian; and reject conspiracies theories and stop rejecting what scientists tell them, and tell their audience to get an education and make informed decisions.
Make it so the trump message wasn’t considered acceptable.

Which leads to shit like this.

Looks like I-405 is changing…
Dear Good To Go! customer,
Changes are coming to the I-405 express toll lanes. Starting at 7 p.m. this Friday, March 18, I-405 express toll lanes will be free and open to all on weeknights, weekends, and some holidays.
Express toll lanes will continue to operate normally between 5 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. The rest of the time the lanes will be free, including:
Weeknights from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
All day on weekends
Holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July Fourth, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
When the lanes are free you won’t need any kind of Good To Go! pass to drive in those lanes, and it doesn’t matter how many people you have in your car – even if you’re alone you can use the lanes. No tolls will be charged during those hours. Learn more about these changes by on our blog.
When the lanes are free and the signs above the roadway show ‘open to all’ please keep in mind:
It will still be illegal to cross the double white lines. Drivers will need to continue to use designated access points.
Solo drivers are not allowed to use the direct access ramps at NE 6th Street in downtown Bellevue and NE 128th Street in Totem Lake. During these times, solo drivers will need to follow roadway signage and use an alternative access point to enter and exit the lanes. Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is looking for options to improve access and/or signing in these areas.
Trucks over 10,000 pounds gross vehicle weight are always restricted from using the I-405 express toll lanes.
Improvements to the I-405 express toll lanes
Since express toll lanes opened last September, regional drivers have made millions of trips in the express toll lanes, showing us how much they value reliability during the weekday commute. However, we’re also listening to the concerns and input we’ve received from drivers and are evaluating solutions to make the express toll lanes better for everyone.
In February, Governor Jay Inslee and the state legislature directed WSDOT to make changes to the I-405 express toll lanes. Changes to the hours of operations are part of more than a dozen adjustments to the I-405 express toll lanes corridor to increase capacity and improve operations including:
Improved striping and signage.
Longer access points, including changes to the northbound I-405 access point at SR 520 happening this weekend, that make it easier for drivers to merge into the toll lanes.
New merge-and-weave lanes and hard running shoulders at key northbound I-405 chokepoints near SR 520 and SR 527.

@16 The real problem for the Republicans is that many of those who are voting for Trump maybe close to realizing that voting Democratic particularly for progressives maybe in their best interests.
So your question should be how can the Democratic party or candidates capture some of these Trump supporters. Particularly if the Republicans go along this path and create the perfect storm, and split their party, rather than carry on and hold their noses. Trump getting the outright nomination if he goes into the convention with more votes than any other candidate.
Of course this is all President Obama’s master plan for a Biden presidency.

The people of Georgia apparently too fragile and scared to tolerate different people, so they made an environment where the different people would be encouraged to leave. What worries Stern, and many officials in the labor movement, is that Trump’s appeal to working-class voters is more than just a byproduct of his master showmanship. Trump’s denunciations of trade deals, his condemnation of politicians who ushered in outsourcing, and his tough, often-xenophobic rants about immigrants taking domestic jobs all lay out a policy portfolio that, at the most basic level, can be attractive to the economically marginalized.
I think the key will be the Democratic Party has to show that it can be a populist party, not a party of the corporate elite or the establishment,”

I haven’t seen evidence in the exit polling data of Trump voters from large diverse States like Illinois, Ohio, and Florida that his appeal is rooted in economics. That’s just the working hypothesis favored by establishment Repukes. These Trump voters from large, diverse States are quite often very middle class and do not express economic frustration. The part of Trump’s bullshit that appeals to them most is the anti-immigrant and anti-muslim crap.
In other words, they are bigots.

@36 If the Republicans want the White House and to keep the Senate and the House they will circle their wagons around Trump if he goes into the convention with a majority.

Mark Adams spews:
@37 It’s the truth. If the man was crucified they followed their commanders orders and did it. Members of a Roman legion followed their orders. If they did not then every 10th member of the legion would have been put to the sword. According to lots. So if you imply the story of Jesus is true then it’s soldiers of the Roman 10th Legion who crucified him. Not Pilate, not the Jews, not the Pharisees.
It’s also illustrative of politics. Those who use the story to blame the Jews, blame Pilate, use the part about Pilate to bolster the story, rather than question why if it was the Jews they didn’t stone him to death. Why would Pilate crucify a man that according to the bible doesn’t deserve to be crucified? Is this a rewriting of the story? Was Jesus really a terrorist? Did he deserve to be crucified? What implications does this have for the foundation of the worlds largest religion. Is Christianity based on a lie?
Can I say that? I should be able to say that under our Constitution. Perhaps I should go back to just saying Soldiers of the 10th Legion crucified Jesus which is frankly blasphemy. Something the first largest religion still has some problems with and the 2nd largest religion really has conniption fits about.
So I think it fucking matters.
