Republican strategists are shipping Palin to Alaska — to keep her away from the media. They don’t want the hockey rink mom talking about, er, the issues — because they’re afraid she’ll look like a fool.
Meanwhile, Democratic researchers are digging through her record in Alaska — and finding more interesting stuff. Such as …

When it comes to foreign policy, I’ve already said that McCain isn’t McSame. He’s McWorse. He’s a shoot from the hip, roll the dice, high-stakes gambler kind of maverick.
And it’s not a bad thing to have that kind of maverick in the Senate. Having that kind of maverick in the White House is a recipe for complete and unmitigated disaster.
@3 Yeah, it’s shaping up that way. If the Reagan Democrats put Crank/Skank in power, they won’t get any sympathy from me when their jobs, homes, pensions, and health care disappear. They voted for it, so they can live with it! A loss in November won’t affect me. My burrowhold has two safe government pensions, the Democrats in congress will keep C/S from privatizing my social security and medicare, and I’ll continue to get Republican tax breaks on my investments. I don’t work or produce anything so I’ll make out fine no matter what happens.
Palin is shaping up to be the biggest tax-raiser and earmarker of all time. As usual, what Republicans say differs from what they do.
Days before the anniversary of September 11, on the same morning that John McCain and Barack Obama released a joint statement pledging to avoid politics in light of the anniversary of the terrorist attacks, McCain’s campaign accused Democrats of throwing away 12,000 American flags.
“The campaign says the flags were recovered from Invesco Field after the Democrats concluded their convention there,” Fox News reported, “and they are going to be used as part of the warm-up ceremonies before McCain takes the stage” for a rally in Colorado Springs, Col.
But according to a senior official involved in organizing the Democratic convention, the McCain camp is simply lying about the flags.
“All of the flags at Invesco were picked up and put in bags and into storage, along with the unused flags and campaign signs. The flags were going to be donated, and the signs were going to be sent out to be used elsewhere,” the official said, speaking anonymously since he was not authorized to talk to the press.

The only catch was that the city began building roads and installing utilities for the project before it had unchallenged title to the land. The misstep led to years of litigation and at least $1.3 million in extra costs for a small municipality with a small budget. What was to be Ms. Palin’s legacy has turned into a financial mess that continues to plague Wasilla.
“It’s too bad that the city of Wasilla didn’t do their homework and secure the land before they began construction,” said Kathy Wells, a longtime activist here. “She was not your ceremonial mayor; she was in charge of running the city. So it was her job to make sure things were done correctly.” (…)
Last year, the arbitrator ordered the city to pay $836,378 for the 80-acre parcel, far more than the $126,000 Wasilla originally thought it would pay for a piece of land 65 acres larger. The arbitrator also determined that the city owed Mr. Lundgren [the owner] $336,000 in interest. Wasilla’s legal bill since the eminent domain action has come to roughly $250,000 so far, according to Mr. Klinkner, the city attorney.
Mr. Lundgren has appealed the decision, arguing that the arbitrator should have awarded him more interest. “It has been 10 years; it’s just insane,” said Mr. Lundgren, who now lives in Panama. “All [Ms. Palin] had to do was close the transaction.””

A lot of that was for the sports center. If the WSJ’s figures are correct, the increased sales price, interest owed, and legal fees come to a cool $1.3 million in needless expenditure. And the lawsuits aren’t over yet.
Coming on the heels of the most fiscally irresponsible administration in a generation, this doesn’t sound like change we can believe in.

Palin’s pastor, Larry Kroon, invited the founder of Jews for Jesus, David Brickner, to speak at her church on August 17th, Politico’s Ben Smith reported. According to its mission statement, Jews for Jesus is an organization that tries: “to make the messiahship of Jesus an unavoidable issue to our Jewish people worldwide.”
Palin and her family were present in the church for Brickner’s sermon, the full text of which can be found here. In the sermon, he made a number of inflammatory claims, most particularly about terrorist attacks in Israel. “Judgment is very real and we see it played out on the pages of the newspapers and on the television. It’s very real,” he opined. Speaking of his son, who had recently been in Jerusalem, he said: “When Isaac was in Jerusalem he was there to witness some of that judgment, some of that conflict, when a Palestinian from East Jerusalem took a bulldozer and went plowing through a score of cars, killing numbers of people. Judgment — you can’t miss it.

I don’t see how anyone can even consider voting for McCain. He is just another Bush. Another evil Republican. And that Palin cunt. She is a really bad parent because she is not staying home to raise her kids. I mean, it was different with Gregoire and her kids cuz she didn’t have a retard baby. Palin does. And one of her underage daughters is pregnant out of wedlock! That is a full-fledged crisis! A retard baby and a 17 year old pregnant daughter. For example, Seattle Junior Hockey built a hockey rink in Mountlake Terrace for $4 million with money raised by their state-licensed charitable bingo parlor. I was astounded to learn that more television viewers watched John McCain’s acceptance speech than Barack Obama’s.

He made some flubs in accepting the nomination.
Summary
We checked the accuracy of McCain’s speech accepting the Republican nomination and noted the following:
* McCain claimed that Obama’s health care plan would “force small businesses to cut jobs” and would put “a bureaucrat … between you and your doctor.” In fact, the plan exempts small businesses, and those who have insurance now could keep the coverage they have.
* McCain attacked Obama for voting for “corporate welfare” for oil companies. In fact, the bill Obama voted for raised taxes on oil companies by $300 million over 11 years while providing $5.8 billion in subsidies for renewable energy, energy efficiency and alternative fuels.
* McCain said oil imports send “$700 billion a year to countries that don’t like us very much.” But the U.S. is on track to import a total of only $536 billion worth of oil at current prices, and close to a third of that comes from Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom.
* He promised to increase use of “wind, tide [and] solar” energy, though his actual energy plan contains no new money for renewable energy. He has said elsewhere that renewable sources won’t produce as much as people think.
* He called for “reducing government spending and getting rid of failed programs,” but as in the past failed to cite a single program that he would eliminate or reduce.
* He said Obama would “close” markets to trade. In fact, Obama, though he once said he wanted to “renegotiate” the North American Free Trade Agreement, now says he simply wants to try to strengthen environmental and labor provisions in it.
How unpopular is Bush? The Dish Network has series of ads that parody George Bush. Think about that for a second.
