– Liberals Need To Get Happy

– Not sure Bill Nye should have accepted a debate with Ken Ham given that it might give some people the impression that there’s an actual debate on the age of the earth. But I’m glad he handled it deftly.

– The Times has had this kind of stink coming off of it for years, and as long as its Beltway rot is allowed to continue, it will continue to gangrenize every other media institution it touches.

– Local school measures are coming up.

– Also, stay warm everybody.

    Attention all Comcast customers…

    Comcast customer Ronaldo Boschulte didn’t know exactly what he was getting when the company swapped his malfunctioning modem for a new one. The cable modem doubles as a Wi-Fi router—that much he was expecting. But he didn’t realize the router would, by default, broadcast a public Wi-Fi network that anyone with a Comcast account could connect to.

    Comcast says you don’t have to worry. I’m not worried myself. Of course I own my router so this is a non issue to me.

    Maybe the best point in the Nye- Ham debate

    A modern day miracle: Ken Ham delivered the decisive blow in the creationism debate

    When asked what would change their minds, Ken Ham’s response was, in effect, “nothing”. “Well, I’m a Christian,” he explained. And that was indeed explanation enough: evidence does not and cannot trump belief. By contrast, Nye responded with “evidence”.

    That, ladies and gentlemen, is the difference, the only answer you will ever need to “is creationism science?” Scientists reshape ideas to fit evidence, not the other way around. Nye responded as a scientist. Ham responded as a zealot. Ham has every right to be as zealous and as closed-minded as he likes. But that is not science. It is a direct rejection of science and rational thinking.

    @2 Ham proved creationists can’t win the argument with facts and logic; they have to fall back on faith-based conclusions, because facts and reason demolish their contentions.

    Will Your State Be Next to Legalize Pot?

    Colorado and Washington were just the start. The movement to end the prohibition of pot is catching fire, with legalization bills and ballot measures now being discussed in 19 states and the District of Columbia. Marijuana activists predict that recreational pot smoking will become legal this year in Alaska, Oregon, and quite possibly Rhode Island, which could be the first state to take the leap by a vote of its legislature.

    I’m told the Olympics opener did not go well. What do you expect when you send all the the lesbians and gays into hiding? Who’s going to make the stuff work and who’s going organize the events?

    Republican Sen. Pat Roberts acknowledged to the New York Times that he does not own a home of his own in Kansas, the state he has represented in the U.S. Senate since 1997.

    Roberts, who is facing a primary challenge from a Tea Party-backed candidate, pays $300 a month to a couple who are “longtime supporters and donors” so he can stay in a room at their house on a Dodge City golf course, according to the NYT story.

    Looks like the Democrats might be picking up another seat in the senate.

    Also, Cathy McMorris is under investigation by the ethics folks, but it sounds like nothing will come of it.

    The Economy Isn’t Better

    The percentage of working-age Americans (16 and older) who were employed bottomed in December 2009 at 58.2%. In the 4 years since then, it has risen to 58.6%.

    Sure, the “headline” unemployment rate if falling, but that’s because people are dropping out of the labor force, not because people are getting jobs.
