    For all you “Drill here, Drill now” assholes, the federal Energy Information Administration sets you straight about the international market and, really, the effect of the cartel on that market. They’re talking about ANWR, but it applies to continental shelf drilling as well:

    “ANWR oil production is not projected to have a large impact on world oil prices. […] Assuming that world oil markets continue to work as they do today, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) could neutralize any potential price impact of ANWR oil production by reducing its oil exports by an equal amount.”

    Think they won’t move to prop up prices? They’re capitalists.

    I suspect that if I tried to look up coverage of the Democratic primaries in Nexis news archives, Edwards’ name will have disappeared from the debates. By next week, Edwards won’t have been John Kerry’s running mate in 2004.

    Do you know what this means? At this precise moment in time, I could call Edwards a name that would send me to rehab, and the media wouldn’t be able to report it!

    In that youtube link I posted a couple days ago about one democrat implying the other democrat was racist, and using images of the kkk in her ad (does robert byrd get reuse fees for appearing in the ad?). The same one where lee tried to explain it as cohen being a “jewish” democrat.
      
    The liberal ny times had a story about it. Guess what word they forgot to use, yup, democrat. Lee has made excuses for party affiliation not being included as not needed since it was a local paper and everyone already knew party affiliation.
      
    Well, the ny times isn’t a local rag in this case. Yet party affiliation is omitted.

    I’m surprised the right-wing trolls aren’t posting about the Detroit mayor (a Democrat) being ordered to jail for a bail violation. It seems he made a quick trip across the bridge into Canada on city business, which was a violation of the terms of his bail.

    “Kilpatrick apologized and acknowledged that he made a mistake when he visited Windsor, Ontario, minutes away from Detroit, for city business last month. But District Judge Ronald Giles was not moved, saying he needed to treat the mayor like any other defendant.

    “What matters to me … is how the court overall is perceived and how if it was not Kwame Kilpatrick sitting in that seat, if it was John Six-Pack sitting in that seat, what would I do?”

    Now, I’m withholding judgement about whether the Detroit mayor is guilty of the perjury charges, pending trial. But if he crossed the bridge into Canada without permission, in violation of the terms of his bail, the judge is entirely right to throw him in jail. After all, that’s what he would do to anybody else.

    Or is it? Maybe this judge is carefull about treating defendants before him equally. But with respect to the U.S. Justice Dept., things have been handled quite differently, for quite some time.

    Let’s take the case a couple of years ago of a man who was convicted of drug charges. After fighting the charges for a couple of years, he eventually plead guilty to doctor-shopping for prescription drugs in a deal where he went throught drug treatment programs and was on probation and paid the cost of the state’s investigation. During that probation period, he hoped on a private plane for a trip outside the country, but upon his return prescription drugs were found in his possession which were not issued in his name. He claimed the drugs were given him by his doctor to spare him embarrasment.

    Now, if it were you or me, what would have happened to us? Of course, the same thing that happened to the Detroit mayor. We would have had our ass thrown in jail for attempting to bring into this country controlled substances in violation of federal law. Considering that a quick computer check revealed that the person in question was on probation for a drug charge, we could expect that if it were you or me, we would at the very least sit in jail until a judge had an opportunity to determine whether we were in violation of our probation – a hearing which would take place at the judge’s convenience, not ours.

    But the person in question – Rush Limbaugh – was not put in jail. He wasn’t even detained for more than an hour while phone calls were made. He was released, and nothing more came of it.

    So if you are an influential Democrat in Detroit who gets into trouble, and you get prosecuted by Democratic prosecutors, and brought before a Democratic judge in Detroit, you will be treated like everybody else.

    But if you are a right-wing radio talk-show hosts who serves the needs of the Republican Party, the prosecutors will turn a blind eye.

    I keep seeing clips of McCain speaking on CNN, usually or at least often live feeds. Again and again, it looks as if literally dozens of people waited in line for minutes to get in to see John McCain. I mean, no one is ever there! This guy can’t draw.
