The blog Capitol Hill Seattle has an ethical dilemma on their hands:

Metroblogging Seattle put us up against HorsesAss.org in their Blarch Badness tournament. Don’t know if it’s cheating or not but we’ll save you the trip over there to vote.

Hmm. I suppose it might not be cheating to embed the poll — though the only conceivable motive Metroblogging Seattle had in running a tournament was to up their own page views — but it is certainly bad strategy. I wasn’t even aware of this poll until I saw a couple links come in from CHS’s post, but now that I am, hell if I’m going to be out-cheated.

Yeah sure, it’s entirely petty and childish. All the more reason to vote in the poll and kick the living bejeebus out of those dirty, traitorous cheaters over at CHS.

    Murtha admits he was the one pressuring the Defense Dept to give Nancy Pelosi a big shiny plane to use at her discretion. Is he hoping to get to borrow the keys when Mom isn’t using it?

    The Washington Post print a big front page expose on the Feith document. Then it prints a big correction, realizing that the quotes attributed to the report actually came from elsewhere, particularly from big mouth Carl Levin.

    John Edwards hires, then fires, then rehires two Catholic-haters. He makes them apologize and swear they didn’t mean to hurt anyone’s feelings. They do, since they are now getting money. Of course, Dems everywhere buy the apology.

    The Mayor of San Francisco has an affair with his Campaign Manager’s wife. Rather than apologize for being a cad, he enters rehab. For what, not being able to control the zipper on his pants? Of course, Dems everywhere applaud his courage.

    You just can’t make up this kind of stuff.

    Did you hear about the one where Nancy Pelosi singles out American Samoa from having to increase their minimum wage? Seems she has some big donors in the tuna canning business that have plants there. I’m not sure whether to be happy that she understands economics when it affects her pocketbook, or to be sad that she is just one more corrupt politician.

    Oh, and Harry Reid just hired a very high priced lawyer who likes to sue newspapers for printing unfavorable stories. Guess the story about the land deals is getting a little too close for comfort.

    Yes, it took me some effort to find it. The right wing blogs are going absolutely nuts about it, but none of them seemed to have a simple copy of the prayer. Lots of “analysis” and a whole bunch of talk, but they didn’t simply read the prayer, word for word, without commentary.

    You are welcome to assume that the occupation he is referring to is in Iraq. Even the Iraqis that like us acknowledge that we are occupying their country, and look forward to the time when we are able to leave.

    There is certainly some oppression going on there as well, and not necessarily by us, but certainly by folks that we have supported.

    And on this point, I’ll even give the Bush administration a (small) note of credit. They’re working to stop the Shiites from oppressing the Sunnis, and they really are leaning pretty hard on the Iraqi government on this topic.

    So, this terrible man is asking God to help end the war, stop the oppression and let his country live in peace.

    And people applauded? How dare they!

    Oh, and one more thing. Before you assume that I don’t understand references in Islam, I should point out that I have spent at least a bit of time in several Muslim countries.

    Bahrain (an ally of ours in the region) has a really wonderful museum and outreach center for explaining Islam to non-Muslims.

    Dubai (in the United Arab Emirates, another ally) has a public library with a very helpful librarian. His English is excellent.

    Kuwait (you remember them, right?) also has a very good museum with some very interesting and educational bits about Islam.

    Jordan has a large Christian population, and works rather hard in getting the Christian and Muslim populations to understand and work with each other. The current King (he was the Prince when I was there) has even written an excellent book about Islam for Christians. (I own an English language copy which I bought there.) He has a good understanding of Christianity, as his mother is Christian.

    (Full disclosure – I don’t claim to be a scholar specializing in comparative religion. Yes, I have an interest, and I love to read, but mainly it seems that the Navy has this thing about going to the Middle East during the hottest part of the year. Museums and libraries are air conditioned.)

    There are many folks that have a better understanding of Islam than I do, but the Faux News commentators are not among them, nor are any of the far-right bloggers I read.

    Not just “his” country, but all countries.

    Sounds a lot like the prayers in many Christian churches, with the exception of the reference to Muhammad.

    I’m also not crazy about the part about the “people you doom”, but then I’m a Methodist, and we don’t believe in predestination. You’ll need to talk to a Presbyterian about that, as I’ve never understood it.
