I was talking with some friends yesterday who were just amazed at how 1023 year old FlipFlop McCain has been allowed to get away with a complete about face on every major position he held when he ran back in 2000 – take drilling. He was angry at the mere suggestion of it then. Now – he gets millions from the energy lobby (thanks to the whore he fucks who works for them) and all of a sudden he likes the idea. And not a word is said.
Goldy see if you can put together a video showing all the times McSame was said to be for something he is now against and vice versa. It will take several hours given the number of flip flops but it would be fun.

Turns out that the record profits for Exxon-Mobil (monopoly) are the most any corporation has made ever – breaking the old records also set by – you guessed it – Exxon Mobil. I would be willing to drill a bit more for oil if – as Obama proposes – we put a windfall profits tax on the oil companies – especially since they are EXPORTING our oil at a record pace to make even more money – and also make them pay for using government mineral resources – like they are suppposed to do.

The point about when offshore/ANWR oil would come online is just a rhetorical fig leaf.
Oil isn’t renewable and it isn’t getting any cheaper or less in demand. Sucking all the oil out from under ANWR, building condos all over it, and killing every last caribou we see, won’t change anything. So while we have the luxury of time, it would make sense to conserve what we have and find renewable alternatives. Sounds like that’s what Obama is saying.
If the right can’t stand a world in which untapped oil exists, fine. But eventually we’ll have to conserve and find alternatives anyway. Once it’s gone, the pristine wilderness isn’t coming back.

32 – Indeed we are. People have gotten the price signal. Public transit use is up and people are driving less. I know we in my family are. I welcome the higher prices because higher prices for commodities like oil means a change in the status quo of how they’re used. This change of the status quo strongly argues for a higher emphasis on efficient end-use and substitution with clean, sustainable renewables.

As though there is a “real quote” – and then all the rest. What he’s said is he might be willing to support legislation being proposed by 10 other senators – 5 Democrat and 5 Republican – that would ease a federal moratorium on offshore oil drilling:
“If we can come up with a genuine bipartisan compromise in which I have to accept some things I don’t like or the Democrats have to accept some things they don’t like… that’s something I’m open to.”
If he moves ahead on this – and he seems to be moving in that direction – it’s a clear shift from his no-drill position he’d stated forcefully only the day before. He may characterize this shift as compromise, but it’s political expediency pure and simple, motivated by the change in public attitudes on this issues, including in coastal states.

$10 biillion foreclosure fund – My tax $ to help someone that bought a house they couldn’t afford. Irresponsible decisions get rewarded. Taxpayer $$ redistribution.
$10 billion fund for state & local government – My money being used where I have no say. I can vote my senator/congressman out of office, I can’t vote for state/local officials in other states/cities. taxpayer $$ redistribution.
Extend & expand unemployment. – Again, taxpayer $$ redistribution. It’s not as if the money someone pays into the fund is all the money they get back. They also get the $$ of people actually working. taxpayer $$ redistribution again.
More tax rebates – how do people not paying taxes get a rebate, again that’s income redistribution plain & simple.
Create jobs in renewable energy – yeah, lots of those poor people are highly skilled & trained for the renewable energy sector.
Raise minimum wage so a worker can raise his family and pay their basic needs. – So workers with little to no job skills and education will be given a free pass in life. Why go to school and work hard if you can work with steve at a drive through and earn enough to raise your family. Here in la la land that means what, minimum wage will be around $50,000 per year.
Eliminate taxes for seniors earning less than $50,000. – Cool. A couple years ago before my mom died she wouldn’t have had to pay taxes under obamas plan. So what she owned her house out right, owned 2 rentals and 3 pieces of vacant land and drove a new car.
