Oil isn’t renewable and it isn’t getting any cheaper or less in demand. So while we have the luxury of time, it would make sense to conserve what we have and find renewable alternatives. Sounds like that’s what Obama is saying.

Yup, poor people aren’t driving as much. The rich don’t care, there’s no drop in traffic in the liberal area of beverly hills.
The “liberal” concept of making things expensive so the rift-raft can’t afford appears to be working.
I wonder how many poor people can afford solar power, or a prius. Hell, a poor person can’t even invest in a prius.
The real coup, however, is in the prices. An unused Prius requires about $26,672 to take home. The used version, with fewer than 10,000 miles, goes for around $27,945. That’s right, nearly $1,300 more. More incredible: a 2007 model with more than 22,000 miles will only save you $276 compared to the price of a shiny new 2008. We’re not sure you can even call that depreciation.
38
YLBspews:
37 – Silly man. Running a car has always been expensive. There’s gas, maintenance, insurance, making a payment. Poor people have always used the public transit.

————-
As though there is a “real quote” – and then all the rest. What he’s said is he might be willing to support legislation being proposed by 10 other senators – 5 Democrat and 5 Republican – that would ease a federal moratorium on offshore oil drilling:
“If we can come up with a genuine bipartisan compromise in which I have to accept some things I don’t like or the Democrats have to accept some things they don’t like… that’s something I’m open to.”
If he moves ahead on this – and he seems to be moving in that direction – it’s a clear shift from his no-drill position he’d stated forcefully only the day before. He may characterize this shift as compromise, but it’s political expediency pure and simple, motivated by the change in public attitudes on this issues, including in coastal states.

Is there any reason you can’t go to Obama’s web site, read the policy proposals there, and provide some rebuttal?
Rebuttal?
$10 biillion foreclosure fund – My tax $ to help someone that bought a house they couldn’t afford. Irresponsible decisions get rewarded. Taxpayer $$ redistribution.
$10 billion fund for state & local government – My money being used where I have no say. I can vote my senator/congressman out of office, I can’t vote for state/local officials in other states/cities. taxpayer $$ redistribution.
Extend & expand unemployment. – Again, taxpayer $$ redistribution. It’s not as if the money someone pays into the fund is all the money they get back. They also get the $$ of people actually working. taxpayer $$ redistribution again.
More tax rebates – how do people not paying taxes get a rebate, again that’s income redistribution plain & simple.
Create jobs in renewable energy – yeah, lots of those poor people are highly skilled & trained for the renewable energy sector.
Raise minimum wage so a worker can raise his family and pay their basic needs. – So workers with little to no job skills and education will be given a free pass in life. Why go to school and work hard if you can work with steve at a drive through and earn enough to raise your family. Here in la la land that means what, minimum wage will be around $50,000 per year.
Eliminate taxes for seniors earning less than $50,000. – Cool. A couple years ago before my mom died she wouldn’t have had to pay taxes under obamas plan. So what she owned her house out right, owned 2 rentals and 3 pieces of vacant land and drove a new car.
Tax cuts for working families – Don’t millionaires work for their money?
Sounds like the usual bullshit democrats run on. Giving this person’s money to someone else. Same story, different story teller.

If the right can’t stand a world in which untapped oil exists, fine. But eventually we’ll have to conserve and find alternatives anyway. Once it’s gone, the pristine wilderness isn’t coming back.
correctnotright spews:
Poor Marvin – I already went through all the REAL flip flops by McCain – on virtually every issue – he has changed. What does McCain really believe – who knows? Obama has been much more consistent and most of the so-called changes have been media fabrications – just like the oil drilling – oops – wrong again wingnuts.
YLB spews:
Damn! There it is!
Stamm. When the oil rigs start flying up on the coast of Jeb Bush territory (Florida) then you can crow.
We use 7 billion barrels of oil each year. Right wingers are dreaming of maybe 4 years worth tops.
Pretty stupid. The path to go is to use less.
Yeah, I know. Those facts are totally lost on you.
YLB spews:
Hey Goldy,
You forgot to tack on the end:
And you wingnuts? You can all go F yourselves!
Marvin Stamn spews:
Aren’t we using less now than a couple months ago? I know traffic is down here in la la land.
Rick D. spews:
@ 20 – Looks like BiBiGroper has a little hatred problem with women……..well, other than the inflatable ones.
Poor lad. Actually, it’s for the best though, because we wouldn’t want him spreading his deficient/mutated DNA into the gene pool anyway. Afterall, fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life…sadly though, this is how most of Goldy’s Marionettes here at HA exist.
YLB spews:
32 – Indeed we are. People have gotten the price signal. Public transit use is up and people are driving less. I know we in my family are. I welcome the higher prices because higher prices for commodities like oil means a change in the status quo of how they’re used. This change of the status quo strongly argues for a higher emphasis on efficient end-use and substitution with clean, sustainable renewables.
fat,drunk and stupid
Thanks for speaking for yourself Little Ricky Dumbass. Your honesty is commendable.
Oh the eye’s back up on your right wing bullshit in case you hadn’t noticed.
Marvin Stamn spews:
the bybygoop guy does have problems with inflatable women. When he pulls the plug out to put his, well, whatever he calls it in all the air escapes.
Jimmy spews:
@31, that is exactly what I was thinking. There as got to drop the F-bomb in every video podcast or it just won’t be the same…
Marvin Stamn spews:
YLB spews:
37 – Silly man. Running a car has always been expensive. There’s gas, maintenance, insurance, making a payment. Poor people have always used the public transit.
Poor people will have a much chance of joining the middle class under Democratic leadership than that of your beloved, corrupt, intellectually bankrupt Republicans.
DJoie spews:
Looks like the media have screwed up again – by misquoting Obama – that has now happened twice – the real quote is this:
“Like all compromises, it also includes steps that I haven’t always supported,” Obama conceded. “I remain skeptical that new offshore drilling will bring down gas prices in the short-term or significantly reduce our oil dependence in the long-term, though I do welcome the establishment of a process that will allow us to make future drilling decisions based on science and fact.”
————-
As though there is a “real quote” – and then all the rest.
Marvin Stamn spews:
Under the last democrat president record numbers of blacks were packed away in prisons.
Wanna talk 3 strikes law? Did that help blacks when the last democrat president signed it?
Only a racist would think that the last democrat president signing into law that crack dealers go to jail while coke dealers can walk was helping blacks.
Oops, you said poor people, not poor blacks. No doubt you understand my confusion, your party has a long and disgusting history when it comes to people that don’t look like the people on the dollar bills.
Marvin Stamn spews:
So what are some of the economic policies that obama can do to make things better for poor people. Create government jobs? Give taxpayer $$ away? Force the poor to stay in school? Sterilize the poor so they won’t have children they can’t afford?
Feel free to add whatever you think a democrat would do.
Don Joe spews:
@ 41
Is there any reason you can’t go to Obama’s web site, read the policy proposals there, and provide some rebuttal? Or are you, like McCain and his crew, stuck with tilting against creatures made of straw?
Marvin Stamn spews:
ByeByeGOP spews:
Marv the pervert says “Whatever you think of me, the majority of americans are now for drilling for oil.”
Got a citation bitch? And not one from your fellow child rapists on hate radio?
And even if true, since when did you right wing traitors care what a majority of Americans think?
A majority of Americans think we should have never gone into Iraq and we should get out now. You want to go with that?
A majority of Americans think abortion should be legal. You wanna go with that?
Let me guess – you’re only for majority rule when it suits you – like all republican hypocrites.
Don Joe spews:
@ 43
Taxpayer $$ redistribution.
That’s not a rebuttal. That’s you whining. Want some cheese to go with it?
Tax cuts for working families – Don’t millionaires work for their money?
As a rule, they don’t. Millionaires tend to become millionaires through capitalized future earnings. Ask Roger. He’ll explain it for you.
YLB spews:
40,41 – Stamm! Temper, temper!
Over 20 million jobs were added under the last Dem administration
Not enough jobs to keep up with new entrants to the work force were created under the Monkey Administration.
That’s what a Democratic administration does to lift the up poor – create opportunities – you moron!
And what do you know? White Dems all over the country nominated a black man for the White House including 98 percent white Iowa? How does that jibe with your silly-assed race baiting?
ByeByeGOP spews:
I have no run Marv the pervert off of no less than 25 threads. As soon as you challenge the traitor he runs and looks for another little boy to have sex with.
chardonnay spews:
Does Mr Cynical still post here? He was always the funniest person here.

I would have thought inflation and rising home values (even today) would have accomplished this even more. Do you have a study you can share?
