Elizabeth Warren just laid out 8 conditions that companies should accept for government bailout money during the coronavirus crisis
https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/warren-laid-out-conditions-companies-accept-bailouts-coronavirus-crisis-2020-3-1029006340
Here are the eight conditions:
Companies must maintain payrolls and use federal funds to keep people working.
Businesses must provide $15 an hour minimum wage quickly but no later than a year from the end
Companies would be permanently banned from engaging in stock buybacks.
Companies would be barred from paying out dividends or executive bonuses while they receive federal funds and the ban would be in place for three years.
Businesses would have to provide at least one seat to workers on their board of directors, though it could be more depending on size of the rescue package.
Collective bargaining agreements must remain in place.
Corporate boards must get shareholder approval for all political spending.
CEOs must certify their companies are complying with the rules and face criminal penalties for violating them.
If I can’t get her as president, I’d love her to lead the senate. These are brilliant.
—-
The raceist incel snarled with:
“Companies that have met the $15 minimum wage requirement and can’t pay out dividends or buy back their own stock from shareholders desperate to sell are gonna do what, The Fucking Moron II?
They’re gonna acquire. Warren’s unintended consequence will be fewer companies and they’ll be flush with cash because she won’t let them share it with their owners, the shareholders.”
—-
Or they could pay their workers more than minimum wage.
Or they could spend the money on R&D.
Or they could save the money for the next emergency so we wouldn’t to bail them out.

Maybe this explains things:
“Other conservatives have disputed that she is a conservative, in part because of her willingness to criticize Donald Trump,” i.e., according to some people’s definition (including doc’s), you can’t be a “conservative” unless you duly give the Sieg Heil salute to a guy the same people not so long ago (before he won the election) criticized as not being a conservative. I guess what has happened is the whole concept of “conservative” has gotten redefined to conform to Trump’s shoe size. And doc, good little follower that he is, now jams his size-10 feet into Trump’s size-8 shoes, too. It must hurt.

In just the last few hours the bot-farm IJIOT has argued that the US will be okay because we have no pre-existing medical conditions like hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease. Dear Millennials,
First of all, if you’re our children, don’t come visit us. You could be a carrier, especially if you’ve just come from spring break in Florida, where the beaches are open and cesspools of contagion. We’re fine, and want to stay that way. We still love you anyway, virtually.
Second, if you’re out walking our dog, and see us shuffling out of our driveway to take the trash out or bring the mail in, please stop and let us pass, so we don’t have to stop and back up while you walk by. And remember, six feet. Actually, we prefer thirty feet, out of an abundance of caution.
We hear some grocery chains are instituting special hours for seniors. Please don’t put on a wig and fake beard and crash these events to get first crack at the toilet paper. You don’t want to be in a line with a gaggle of coughing and wheezing geezers anyway — you might catch something.
Also, during the regular grocery checkout hours, please don’t stand six inches behind us. We’re paranoid, you know? Don’t try to figure out the logic of this, just accept it. We just are. And please don’t park your grocery basket on the floor right behind our feet for us to trip over if we have to back up for some reason. Fuck. Our hips shatter easily when they make hard contact with concrete floors.
Finally, please take this whole business seriously. We see you going about as if nothing is happening. Heed the social distancing advisories, and if authorities say stay home, then STAY HOME. You may feel fine, i.e. you’re not symptomatic yet. Or you may think that because you’re young and healthy, you’ll weather it without trouble — it’ll only feel like a mild bout of seasonal flu. But you’re carriers. It’s probably too late for you not to be, because you’ve been pretty heedless about the warnings against public gatherings and circulating in large crowds, so it’s inevitable that a lot of you are now infected with this germ that seems to jump so easily from one person to many others.
You’d think I wouldn’t have to say this, but your generation seems to live in a bubble, oblivious to your surroundings, like when you drive with your hands off the wheel and your eyes on your cellphone — you wouldn’t see an elephant in the crosswalk ahead of you, much less a senior citizen. So, a reminder is necessary: There are other people on this planet besides you. HAVE A LITTLE FUCKING CONSIDERATION for them!
Well, that’s about it, except this: If there’s only 12 packages of Kleenex on the shelf, leave one for the senior citizen you muscled past to get at them. You don’t need all 12. Really, you can get by with 11 until they restock next week.
And remember, millennials, we love you. Be good.

President Trump ignited accusations of racism after he referred to COVID-19 as the “Chinese Virus” in a tweet on Monday. Trump’s tweet stated how the United States “will be powerfully supporting those industries, like Airlines and others, that are particularly affected by the Chinese Virus.”
Reporters and Democrats on Twitter rushed to say Trump was either being racist or xenophobic for reminding people the virus starting out in Wuhan, China and spread across the globe because of the authoritarian government’s incompetent response, attempts to hide the outbreak, and its silencing of whistleblowers who tried to raise the alarm over the disease. Even the state media in China came out to deflect blame by posting an infographic with a subtle jab towards Trump.
As Townhall previously reported, the media had long described the new disease as the “Wuhan virus/coronavirus” prior to it being officially named COVID-19 in early February. The media also had described COVID-19 as the “Chinese” virus multiple times in their coverage.

Read your state constitution.
I believe that it guarantees basic educational services to all public school students in your state. However, not all students in all districts statewide facing closures have been provided with notebook computers to allow for remote instruction.
If your state legislature sees fit to include notebook computers for every public school student as a feature to be included in “basic education” then any district facing closure would be free to proceed with distance learning. Alternatively such a district could open up to transfers from all other districts.
What’s your poison?

@95 Steve aka “Seattle Jew” had been posting on HA from its start in 2004, and eventually set up his own blog here: http://handbill.us/
He was a medical doctor employed by the University of Washington School of Medicine’s Department of Pathology as a researcher. The Washington Times called him a “titan” in the field of pathology.
He would hold social gatherings at his home that pulled together an eclectic crowd of interesting people. I very briefly met Puddy in person there at one of these gatherings.
Steve had a power boat and liked to motor up the inside passage to Alaska from Puget Sound in summers. He would send emails to his friends and correspondents describing the passage and their doings along the way. He invited me to participate in one of these cruises, but the old rabbit is in no mettle for such a venture, and only reads travel stories and daydreams of far-flung places.
Steve’s father was a medical officer on Eisenhower’s staff. At the end of the war, as the Nazi regime was collapsing, Eisenhower sent his father to the continent, pretty much at liberty to go wherever he wanted, and the elder Dr. Schwartz stumbled onto Buchenwald, apparently the first American to discover it, arriving there with his medical team a couple of days ahead of Patton’s leading troops. Steve and his family are Jewish, and if the Holocaust came up in one our conversations, Steve would break down and start crying. He was deeply and emotionally affected by it.
Steve was a brilliant man. He was probably the most intelligent person I’m ever going to meet — extremely high IQ, very active mind, very committed to his profession and to doing good in the world, a very decent and honest man, with some interesting quirks, affable and friendly, I never saw him lost his temper but he was capable of getting angry about the wrongs and injustices of this world.
In recent years, he wasn’t posting on HA anymore, but was very active on his own blog, to which he gave me access, and where I had free reign to write and post articles, and moderate reader comments. I regularly edited Steve’s own postings for typos and other errors, and helped maintain the site by performing other housekeeping chores. His blog was designed to be a vehicle for expressing views about University of Washington governance, but evolved into a platform for wide-ranging commentaries on politics, society, current news events, and a fair amount of satire and spoof “news” articles. He also posted commentaries touching on the Jewish, Christian, and Muslim religions.
There is no replacement for him. His shocking death leaves a great big gaping hole in the Seattle progressive-intellectual community. In life, he was unique and larger than life, one of the more interesting characters you’d ever met. Now, he’s gone.
Damn this virus for taking him from us.

I’ll pass that along to the single moms whose husbands or boyfriends abused them and were restrained by court orders, and/or abandoned them and didn’t pay child support, who have significant barriers to employment such as lack of transportation and child care, lack of job skills, medical conditions and/or disabilities, etc.
I’m sure they’ll appreciate your empathy and understanding of their struggles in life. Also, your endorsement of Trump’s food stamp policies such that the only meal their child(ren) will get is a school lunch or a snack in daycare, and they themselves will have to live on sawdust.
It’s tempting to respond with something like, “Fuck you, you inhuman piece of shit.” But that wouldn’t be fair to you. Living on a doctor’s income, you can’t be expected to understand what it’s like to live on a welfare income, or appreciate that they’re in those circumstances for reasons mostly beyond their control. In this case, sheltered ignorance is a defense.
But it would be nice to see you make an effort to set aside the Republican b.s. about “welfare queens” and try to learn something about how the world actually is, and the real struggles of real people. Your failure/refusal to do that is culpable.
The last time I saw statistics on the subject, the average welfare recipient was white, middle class, was on welfare for an average of 14 months, and once off never returned. For most of these single moms, it was a temporary transition from a shattered previous life into work. Programs like child care assistance (and help finding child care, which can be a major challenge in itself), transportation to a job, and skills training proved to be highly effective and were just as important to getting these people (mostly women with young children) back on their feet as cash assistance, food stamps, Medicaid, and housing and utility assistance.
Also let’s not forget that when people like you defend a minimum wage that no one can live on, that makes it inevitable that taxpayers have to step in and provide rent and food assistance, and Medicaid, to the working poor. A low minimum wage is a subsidy to often-wealthy business owners that transfers a major part of their labor cost to taxpayers. You can’t have it both ways. Either you’re going to join us in supporting laws to make employers pay wages their workers can live on, or you’re going to pay taxes for the welfare programs that are necessary to make up the difference.
Elijah SFA McDotcom spews:
109,
Just like the fucking bus, Dumbfuck, notebook computers required for distance instruction would be classified as NERCs under your state’s funding formulation.
All districts must meet the same basic minimum transportation requirements. We all know that. Why the fuck don’t you? Are you just this stupid after all?
If Northshore wants to transport kids to school in chauffeur driven Bugattis they are free to do so, as long the state legislature includes within the basic funding formula enough money for all districts to pay for First Student Blue Birds.
And if Northshore wants to send all their kids home with Mac Pros they are welcome to do so. And they would not be expected to share in that extravagance any more than they’d have to share the fucking Bugattis. But before they can resume distance instruction using those $6000 Apples your state legislature has to step up with some $200 Chromebooks.
That’s on Republicans. We all know that too.
You’re stupid. Okay?
This is a dumb argument you are trying to have. And you’re just too stupid to even know it. I can forgive some of those parents in districts like Northshore for getting a little whiney. They’re the ones dealing with distracted, Adderal addicted middle schoolers Jonesing on daytime television.

122,
It is true from what I’ve read, that a few days ago a couple of PSDs in your state were preparing to implement distance lessons using district supplied notebook computers. And my understanding is that your OSPI had to intervene to prevent those districts form violating state law that would have deprived them of funding.
Similar things are happening and will happen in other states to a greater or lesser extent. The problem has to do with access to the computing devices and also connectivity. And this honestly goes way beyond the Dumbfuck class warfare framing.
Rural districts are some of the most impacted. With higher than average transportation costs and lower income student populations requiring additional nutritional assistance and other support, these districts are way behind in preparing for any kind of distance learning. And connectivity is the big challenge for many of them. Obviously these are predominantly Caucasian PSDs.
This is aggrievement politics intended to distract people from GOP calamity and utter failure. Ironically all it does is demonstrate yet another abject failure by Republicans. PSDs should have been receiving state funding for these contingencies for years in order to prepare for this. In the long run it would save taxpayers. Restoring required instructional days lost to weather, earthquakes, and now CPACvirus pandemic is a foreseeable need. Implementing connectivity solutions and sending kids home with Chromebooks is now more affordable than ever. It’s a lot more affordable than re-negotiating contracts to run the school year through August.
But Republicans simply despise the idea of any of “those people” (whoever the fuck they are) getting any “goodies”. And the average mouth breathing Dumbfuck probably still thinks of notebook computers as electronic jewelry.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@116 “recipients without dependents”
Oh, I get it now. You want the
“two-thirds of participants [who] are children, elderly, and people with disabilities” to get jobs, and where “SNAP also helps workers, both to supplement low wages and support them when they are between jobs,” you want working stiffs holding down three jobs but still unable to make ends meet to get two or three more jobs on top of those jobs.
https://www.cbpp.org/research/food-assistance/most-working-age-snap-participants-work-but-often-in-unstable-jobs
Personally, I don’t think I’d want the person driving my kid’s school bus to be someone who can’t keep her eyes open because she has to work three 8-hour shifts a day to make enough to pay rent. I think it’s better to pay that person enough so she can give all her energy and attention to that one job; or, if you’re not going to do that, then at least to have the decency to give her government benefits (including food assistance) to make up the difference between what her employer pays and what she needs to live.
Your entire attitude toward low-wage workers makes slavery look like an enviable position by comparison. And the fact you’re a privileged white guy while a high percentage of the working poor are minorities makes you look like a racist, too.

Bullshit. I referred to the cancellation, or “pause”, of online instruction because 100% of the student body is not currently able to participate.
It’s within a single, urban school district so can the bullshit about rural. I was referring to one single district.
The district is handing out laptops to those who need them, observing social distancing in doing so. The district is 10 miles north of Microsoft so you can spare me the Intro to Chromebook 101 preaching, asswipe. The issue apparently has to do with the inability of special needs students in this district to receive instruction because that instruction has to be delivered personally, and can’t be done remotely. Because of this, those who are receiving instruction are perceived by current rules to be gaining unfair advantage, and therefore so that the lowest common denominator does not sue and because waiver of a rule during an emergency is not something that SJWs will permit, the solution is to shut the whole thing down.
THAT was my point.
@godwinha spews:

@118 Then why don’t you short it, dummy? It’s been only a few days since I suggested that, and it’s already down double digits from there.
Boeing is a no-brainer. They’ve already burned through the $14 billion they borrowed just a few weeks ago, and now they’re begging for a $60 billion bailout. They’re selling zero planes and are using employee parking lots to store planes that can’t fly. Does anyone believe the shareholders won’t be wiped out in this scenario?
I didn’t see the coronavirus coming when I sold my BA shares for $380, which were acquired for a third of that, but I know a sick company when I see one. Boeing’s collapse wasn’t an Act of God or accident of nature. When rot at the top trickles down and pervades the entire organization, the business is not investable. I took my fat profits and left. Elijah SFA McDotcom spews:
135,
Nice! So in addition to going for some class warfare you also want to go after the Short Bus? Very well played indeed!
This was across the board involving all students. Yes, within the PSD their own lawyers are advising them that under federal law unless they can provide basic instructional services to SN students on a par with all other students they will be in violation, lose federal funding, probably lose state funding, and probably face a class action. Fucking DUH. This is the United States. However much you wish it, you don’t get to drag the “tards” out into the playground and throw rocks at them for your amusement. And you don’t get to send them home to stare at the wall while you bathe all the other “cool kids” in a Gates Foundation educational fantasy.
All this shit is old news. It comes up in perpetuity whenever PSDs discuss distance learning alternatives. Nobody ever wants to deal responsibly with the SN student population.
But of course it goes beyond that as well. Not wanting to blame their own PSD counsel, and always eager for a scapegoat, you’ve got district drones pointing fingers at the state too. And in the case of your state, they aren’t wrong. This has to be addressed at the state level. And Republicans in most state legislatures absolutely refuse to do that. They’d rather hire “School Resource Officers” to beat up legless 12-year-olds and conduct monthly “live shooter” drills.
Asswipe.

@129 “PSDs should have been receiving state funding for these contingencies for years”
In this state, school districts had to sue the state just to get the bare-bones basic instructional funding guaranteed by the state constitution, and after they won, the state supreme court fined the legislature $100,000 a day for not complying with the court order. The problem? Republicans in the legislature, representing the 20% of the population that doesn’t live in western Washington. The solution? Pay ransom to the 20% in the form of school tax cuts funded by raising taxes on Seattle-area homeowners by hundreds of dollars a year. Anybody who thinks these Republicans give a damn about schoolkids has rocks in his head. All they care about is free stuff — highways and roads, schools and sidewalks, fire departments, and above all irrigation water and electricity for irrigation pumps at below cost, all paid for by taxpayers living elsewhere. The red counties of eastern Washington, where no Democrat can get elected to anything, are the most socialist counties in America. Literally everything they have over there is subsidized by urban taxpayers and ratepayers, and they never cease bitching about how they have to pay miniscule taxes to “support Seattle.” They take our tourist money, too. Or, let me say, they used to, before Covid-19 ended tourism.

Still stupid. Double down stupid not better.
PSDs engage in contingency planning for emergency closures all the time. Distance learning alternatives have been a part of that planning for at least a decade. And probably for most of that time in states like yours, the persistent recurring theme has been that until such time as the state takes it up, the local PSDs will have to hold off. And even in states without a McCleary decision, you still risk class action at the federal level if your PSD decides to implement distance education services for every student except the Special Needs population. Brief closures with DL outreach and support extended to parents and caregivers have been done. But nothing on this scale or duration. But the planning has gone on since at least Northridge.
I know of some districts where they have contingency plans in place for implementing long term remote educational support for Special Needs students. But they are small relatively affluent districts with very small populations of SN students in close proximity to support services.
The reason to have contingency plans, and laws protecting vulnerable populations like special needs students, homeless kids, the poor, the disabled, is so that in times of emergency like these we don’t use it, as you would, as an excuse to fuck them over, order them to the back of the bus, leave them in the hallway to drown in their own fluids, pack them into an unheated portable in the corner of the playground to wait out the day soiling themselves, or lock them in a cell to die without medical assistance.
When Trump is listening to the Speaker urging him to implement war production powers, and his Treasury Secretary is begging him for authority to begin writing basic income checks, that’s you Dumbfuck, watching your Darwinian paradise of cruelty and suffering receding permanently in the rear view mirror.
This certainly is unprecedented. I can’t even imagine what this must be like for you. “U.S. crude oil climbs to its highs of the day, with April WTI +18.3% at $24.11/bbl while May Brent +7.4% at $26.72/bbl after both benchmarks plunged to multi-year lows yesterday, but analysts see today’s gains as only temporary.
“Jefferies says 4M bbl/day could flood the markets starting next month, potentially pushing down crude oil prices into the teens, adding that ‘unless somebody intervenes, no oil producer benefits from the current environment.’
“Rystad Energy says the negative impact on oil demand from the coronavirus could hit 10M bbl/day in the coming weeks, and Morgan Stanley cites real time data showing traffic congestion has fallen 50%-60% Y/Y in many major cities across the globe.”
Also worth noting:
“The U.S. Department of Energy says it will buy 30M barrels of oil for the Strategic Petroleum Reserve as an initial step to fulfill Pres. Trump’s directive to fill the reserve to help domestic crude producers.”
https://tinyurl.com/r7fl8xg
Roger Rabbit Commentary: If demand falls 10M bpd, and producers increase production by 4M bpd, then buying 30M bbls. for the strategic reserve absorbs two days of surplus production. Two days. That’s not very likely to sustain a bounce in crude pricing, but even if crude does bounce, the bounce might be from $16 to $18 or something like that.
It isn’t just the Russians that the Saudis are targeting. They’re taking another run at wiping out the U.S. shale industry. In fact, that may be their primary motive. It’s almost certainly not an accident they timed their move to coincide with when the U.S. producers were already on the ropes from a natural disaster. The Saudis are not our friends and it’s time we recognized that fact. If he’s going to turn his back on NATO and South Korea, then the least Trump can do is stop kissing Saudi ass, too. But Trump being Trump, that’s asking too much. He’d rather spend taxpayer money to subsidize the Saudi attack on our oil economy.

Get the Tartine Bread book. Chad Robertson is a bit of a Surfer-bro, so some of his recipes may not be super well tested and edited. But the methods are very solid. And method is everything. I think it’s a better bread book to learn from because it forces the user to pay more attention to the dough and less attention to the book.
If you prefer a more meticulous and scientific approach, Ken Forkish’s Flour, Water, Yeast, Salt might be more to your taste. The recipes are more structured, more thoroughly tested and edited, and some are a bit more advanced.
Brotforms are affordable on Amazon now. Look for 8″ coiled cane. If you follow Chad Robertson’s math (ish) and work primarily with 1000 gram doughs you’ll need two of these (500 gr per boule).
The best baking cloche is the Lodge 5 quart cast iron dutch oven L8DD3. It can be inverted so that the brotform is turned out onto what would be the lid and then the bottom is placed over it. For handling it at temp get a pair of Ove Gloves.
You can make your own dough lame with a wooden chop stick and a razor blade.
For a good simple recipe to dip your toes:

This will tend to produce a more free form loaf owing to a little less gluten development. But still very tasty for very little effort.

pretty hard to make good quality of either of those at home without making a crazy investment of time, space, and money.
Bread scales down pretty well. Beer and wine not so much.
You run the numbers and it’s hard to even see how small commercial wineries and breweries make it, except that one way or another they end up in the hospitality business whether they like it or not.
Making your own, with friends, either at home or at a BOP/custom facility makes even less sense except for the fun of it. And it can be fun. But, as an example, the scale of it means you wind up paying $20 to $30 per bottle for red wine of pretty below average quality. Go for it. Have fun. Make your own label. Give it away as gifts. But if you just want to drink good wine leave it to the pros. It does not scale down very well.
OTOH if you enjoy having good, perfectly fresh, amazing bread at home you can bake it yourself very easily. Doesn’t take up a bunch of space, require special equipment, or too much of your time. That Bittman recipe is dead simple and works every time.

Elijah SFA McDotcom spews:
194,
The failure, and it really is a perennial one, is PSDs and state legislatures refusing to adequately plan for all students.
We’ve all seen this movie. It is decades old. In the 1950s is was states and PSDs somehow forgetting to replace the boiler in the “colored” school. These days it’s special needs students.
The current closures don’t prohibit in-person services. They prohibit the mass gathering of students in one place in order to do it less expensively. That doesn’t preclude making support services available. I know of a half dozen PSDs still offering nutritional support via pickup, and delivery services.
Educational support for special needs students is lots more complicated than to-go lunches. But all that means is it requires more planning and costs more. Not impossible. Just harder.

“…two tons. Grapes ran about $5/produced bottle.”
$3500/ton? Not in Napa. Maybe in Sonoma. Maybe Washington Cab or Merlot from Col Val AVA. Possibly first harvest.
Now all you have to do is come up with another $10,000 for new oak, cork, bottles, boxes, and then couple of weeks production space including de-stemmer (unless you are fermenting whole clusters) bulk fermenters, clarifying tanks, transfer pumps, chemistry set, etc. We’ll assume you and your pals each store one new and one old barrel each in your basement (?).
You’re somewhere between $10 and $15 per bottle conservative with free labor and barrel storage.
Pro/Am tip: get your hustle on and seek out fully vinified and aged orphan barrels* from wineries in your state. They can be had surprisingly affordably. Then you just need a food grade bulk tank and a trailer you can pull behind the horse truck. Fuck, horses weigh a lot. Maybe you can use the horse trailer? The winery transfers their barrels to your bulk tank and sends you down the road. Now you’ve got five barrels worth ready to bottle and all you need is a place to do it and maybe a dozen people. I know people who do this every year and seem to do okay. But it’s a little bit of a crap shoot in my opinion.
*You’re looking for 3 to 5 orphan barrels that did not make it into that winery’s blending program that year. That fits well in your state. You have quite a number of moderate sized premium producers who blend reds. You’ll need a decent palate. Some of it is harvest that just didn’t come around or marginal vineyard sites. Often it’s just odd ball stuff. Some “blending” varietals. So if you like Cab Frac (I actually do) or Petit Verdot (hmm), Lemberger (under appreciated owing to a terrible name), etc….
In the catastrophic Trump economy to come later this summer going into fall you may be able to find some deals. There will be a wine glut with all these closures.

Democrats were so opposed to Trump’s travel bans with China and Iran that they literally attempted an act of Congress to prevent him from carrying them out. On March 5, 2020, Rep. Judy Chu (D-Calif.) introduced the “No Ban Act”, which would have prevented Trump from implementing his travel ban. It was co-sponsored by 219 House Democrats. Senate Democrats also tried to prevent Trump from implementing his travel bans, introducing legislation that would block funds from being used to enforce them.
This was after World Health Organization experts conceded that Trump’s travel ban with China saved lives.
Congressional Democrats may not understand that travel bans will help slow the spread of the coronavirus, but the American public does. A recent poll found 80 percent of Americans agree with Trump’s travel bans.

“Married couples who file their taxes jointly would have to make less than $150,000 to qualify for their payment, which would be $2,400.

“The payment would phase out entirely for individuals making more than $99,000 annually, meaning people who make more than that would not get any money from the government, according to the proposal.
“For married couples earning more than $150,000, the payment would also decline gradually, and it would phase out completely for couples making more than $198,000, according to the plan.
“The checks, however, would reduce to $600 (or $1,200 for married couples) for taxpayers who have little or no income tax liability but have at least $2,500 in qualifying income, according to a GOP summary of the plan.”

@227 – The liars in this entire sorry adventure are the Communist Party of China. Communism doesn’t fucking work, and they know it. Still, they cling to their power and privilege while
enjoying what they can from the wealth China can still grow in a country whose leadership is corrupt, self-centered and arrogant.
If the bastards would have been honest from the start, we’d all be in better shape. They’re just a bunch of commie bastards, benefitting from crony capitalism and whose commitment to their fucking communist revolution is a joke.

It’s nice to see you guys baking bread, now about breaking bread for once.
WTF!? spews:
My mother has baked bread every Saturday for the last fucking 60 years, good to see Neanderthals are finally catching up.
That applies to making homemade pasta and ricotta filled ravioli, and fresh sauce weekly.
All while she worked a full time job on an assembly line at Wiremold, and raising 3 kids (washing and ironing even the underwear).
And she never complained about taxes or life.
Nobody will beat that. All while her and dad (US Postsl worker) became multi millionaires.

Oh and I cut my own hair and haven’t paid a barber in over 6 years.
Cut down on deodorant to once every two days and take a shower.
That saves money too.
And those single use plastic bags, I use them a second time (how about that) as a garbage bag. I haven’t bought a trash bag I ducking 7 years.

Mom baked about 8 to 10 loaves at a time and stored them in a freezer. Not as great as a fresh loaf, but sacrificing its so damn hard(sarcasm).

Here’s a message for you racist, xenophobic, immigrant-baiting Breitbart-breathing numbskulls:
YOU NEED MEXICAN WORKERS AND YOU’RE GONNA STARVE WITHOUT THEM:
“If farmers get sick or have to significantly alter the way they work because of safety measures, the food supply could take a hit. … Duvall is particularly concerned over a recent decision by the federal government to suspend immigrant visa services in Mexico …. Farmers rely on immigrant labor, and Duvall worries that the changes will affect harvesting in the spring and planting in the summer. … ‘Empty shelves can be frightening, but empty fields and barns would be devastating,’ he warned. … For now, however, the system is working. ‘The supplies are there,’ Newton said. ‘The key is making sure that the supply chain remains very strong, and the key component of that strong supply chain is access to labor.'”

Note: Breitbart is not a ventilator and can’t move air in and out of your lungs. If Breitbart is all you’ve got, and you get Covid-19, get in line for your pine overcoat. Supplies eventually will be available.

@237 Must be looking at itself in a mirror.
So some troll calling itself “Mao” shows up here fulminating about the Chinese being bad guys. Guess what, we knew that before Nixon began cozying up to them, and every GOP administration since has sent good-paying American union jobs to China to line their own pockets with more profits. And it’s upset because it can’t buy anything without Chinese germs on it. As I’ve complained many times before, this blog’s trolls are other blogs’ rejects. They come here after getting kicked out of Free Republic, not for being too over the top, which is not possible on Freep, but for being too stupid even for Freep. I can see this is going to be another one of those days when a visiting troll makes Dumbfuck and Puddy aka pork sauce look like the intelligentsia of our troll cadre, which isn’t saying anything complimentary about those two. As I’ve said for years, HA needs better trolls, but I don’t know where the hell to get them. It’s easier to find toilet paper.

240 (cont),
Let’s not kid ourselves. If three weeks ago GOP Senator Richard Burr was sharing classified intelligence with wealthy donors alerting them about the calamity that was about to unfold, then he certainly knew well before that and had already covered his own ass.
Most of the US is about to descend into an economic crater. Republicans in charge have known about it and prepared for it months ahead of time all the while pretending that “everything is perfect”. They’ve been lying about this since December. We all could have been warned. We all could have prepared. Instead Republicans and the White House soft peddled it and lied about all the projections in order to sell at the top of the market.

Just so you know …
“Wednesday night, 280 clinicians in Washington state dialed into a three-hour webinar to hear about the possibility that medical professionals across the state will have to begin rationing health-care — including precious ventilators — for coronavirus patients.
“Officials say the trigger for rationing care, or invoking what are known as ‘crisis standards,’ will be when there are more COVID-19 patients than ventilators.
“‘If you are above a certain age and we have a shortage of ventilators, you don’t get one,’ Cassie Sauer, CEO of the Washington State Hospital Association explained. …
“A 2010 study found Washington state had fewer than 1,000 ventilators. As of Thursday it had more than 1,300 confirmed cases of coronavirus ….”

@242 B-b-b-u-t …
“Sen. Richard Burr, under fire for selling off much of his stocks ahead of the coronavirus-caused downturn in the market, said Friday he made the move because of TV reports — not inside information obtained in his role as Senate Intelligence Committee chairman. …
“‘I relied solely on public news reports to guide my decision regarding the sale of stocks on February 13. Specifically, I closely followed CNBC’s daily health and science reporting out of its Asia bureaus at the time,’ Burr said in a statement.”
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/sen-burr-i-sold-stocks-because-tv-reports-not-inside-n1165036
Presumably he also shorted Boeing’s stock, based on public news reports or by reading the HA comment threads, both of which also were available to Doctor Dumbfuck.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Here’s the problem with Burr’s “public news reports” defense:
” … Burr — who co-wrote an op-ed for Fox News in early February saying ‘the United States today is better prepared than ever before to face emerging public health threats, like the coronavirus’ — unloaded the stock around mid-February,” i.e. after giving that reassurance a few days’ time to calm the suckers’ nerves.
Wherever he was getting his “public news reports,” it obviously wasn’t from his own fucking op-ed, which might make this defense a tough sell to a jury.
He isn’t the only one. Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) also dumped stock. Unlike Burr, she isn’t a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, so she didn’t sit in those classified briefings. Her source of insider information more likely was her husband, who happens to be the president of the New York Stock Exchange.
