This week’s orgy of mainstream American racism has been very depressing.
I received one especially ugly racist remark from one of the trolls .. writing over at my own blog ..where my response is.
The media went on an orgy of racism. That was disgusting.

Faced with racism, she kept quiet and he actually abetted the Hannity-esque blink-blink, equating Rev. Wright’s outrage with a lack of patriotism in Barack Obama. Mr. Clinton, Reverend Wright served in the marines, came home to fight for civil rights and help poor people. Rev. Wright did not avoid service, he did not create a personal foundation). Mr. Clinton, you are no Rev. Wright, much less the sort of patriot YOU say we all need as President.
Hillary’s silence puts her in a class with the Germans who kept quiet or the so many Americans from our founding fathers who, as wonderful as they were, failed this critical test. Jefferson had excuses. First, he had to choose between founding this nation and freeing slaves. Second, he had honest and deeply felt concern that he did not know how to free the slaves without having a race war. Third, his slaves were property and without the slaves as collateral, Mr. Jefferson migh well have gone broke.
Hillary’s ambition is to succeed Jefferson. Imagine the outcome if she had the nobility or just plane smarts to pick up the phone and call Barack or even Rev. Wright and expr4ess support. She must be not only racist but stupid if she does not see how NOT doing this has painted her with an ugly stain.

Roger Rabbit Commentary: No mention there of McCain being the squadron commander. I don’t think he was; in fact, after he returned home from captivity, he was assigned to congressional lobbying duties because he was considered unqualified to command either a ship or a squadron. He eventually resigned from the Navy because he couldn’t promote due to his lack of command experience.
There were many acts of extreme bravery by many men that day, but there’s no mention in the Wikipedia article of McCain doing anything beyond saving his own ass. It’s even in doubt whether his plane was hit by the rocket. What is clear, though, is that McCain abandoned his aircraft and it subsequently blew up, killing nearly all of the firefighters on the flight deck. A really, really brave pilot would have hit the throttle and maneuvered his plane off the flight deck; he probably would have been killed on impact with the sea, but would have saved many lives on the ship. McCain wasn’t that brave. Even climbing out of his cockpit in the fire wasn’t brave; it was merely an act of self-preservation. There’s also no mention of McCain doing anything brave after escaping from his plane, unlike some of the other crew who deliberately put themselves in harm’s way (and died) to save others.

BAGHDAD, March 23 (Reuters) – Baghdad’s heavily fortified Green Zone, which houses the Iraqi parliament and U.S. embassy, was hit by a sustained barrage of rocket or mortar bomb fire early on Sunday, witnesses and officials said.
It was not immediately clear where most of the missiles landed or if there were any casualties after an apparent attack lasting about 15 minutes, Reuters witnesses said.
The U.S. military has blamed past missile attacks on the Green Zone on rogue elements of anti-U.S. cleric Moqtada al-Sadr’s Mehdi Army militia. Sadr last month renewed a seven-month old ceasefire for his militia.
A large plume of thick black smoke could be seen rising from one area of central Baghdad’s Green Zone, which houses many government ministries and diplomatic missions. Sirens could be heard warning people to take cover.
At least two U.S. attack helicopters could be seen circling over an area in the Iraqi capital’s northeast soon after the attack.
A U.S. government official, who asked not to be identified, said the Green Zone had come under “indirect fire”, a term commonly used to described mortar or rocket fire.
There was no immediate response from the U.S. military to telephone calls and emails about the attack. The U.S. embassy routinely does not comment on such attacks for security reasons.
The barrage, which started just before 6 a.m., came in three separate volleys and lasted for a total of about 15 minutes.
The 10 sq km (4 sq mile) Green Zone, located on the left bank of the Tigris River that cuts through Baghdad, has often been targeted by mortars and rockets, although the frequency of attacks has diminished with improved security.
Sadr’s ceasefire has helped contribute to a 60 percent fall in attacks across Iraq since last June, the U.S. military says.
But U.S. commanders have also said they will continue to hunt down rogue elements of Sadr’s splintered militia’s, which they describe as “special groups” that are backed by Iran.
Iran denies U.S. charges that it is funding, arming and training militias. It blames the violence in Iraq, in which tens of thousands of Iraqis have died, on the U.S.-led invasion to topple Saddam Hussein in March 2003.

Most of the information I’ve seen attacking Senator McCain’s military records comes from questionable (at best) sources. Folks with a personal axe to grind, or far-right types attacking him for not being conservative enough.
I’m not calling the man a stellar leader, or even an especially good pilot, but a good part of his career woes stem from being locked in a North Vietnamese prison camp for several years. From all reputable accounts, he acted with courage and honor while a “guest” of the North Vietnamese.
His followers won’t much care what we say, and to independents it looks as if he’s being “swift boated”. Even Sentators Obama and Clinton have publicly praised his military service. The only folks that will be impressed by an attack on Senator McCain’s service will be folks that wouldn’t vote for him under any circumstances anyway.
We can’t outdo the neo-cons at the shameless attack game. Saying or doing anything to win comes naturally to them. Lying, cheating and character assassination is their element, and to outdo them at that game, we’d have to become them.
A person does not defeat a shark by jumping in the water and attacking with his teeth. That attack is doomed to failure. Yet people defeat sharks every day by using intelligence. (Shark fajitas. Yum!)
Focus on the real issues of today and we can easily win. The war, the economy, the environment, job growth, health care. Our “natural element” is that of ideas and inspiration. Appealing to the “better angels” as it were.
