– Dear bigots, please feel free to leave Washington. Sorry people in states without marriage equality.
– December numbers for Washington’s exchange.
– I still love it when national media mention lil’ ol’ Washington. But maybe not when they make fun of our stuck tunnel machine.
– Oh hey Texas, enjoy the next however many months of this garbage.
– I agree with Oliver that marriage equality is hurting the religious right. But I don’t think they’re on the run, as evidenced by all the anti-choice (for example) legislation.
– Pie Fest is coming to Olympia in February.
– I know I goof on Seahawks fandom here, but I am pro it. I’m more against early or annoying fandom. What I’m saying is I for one look forward to all of the green and blue vomit we’ll get next Sunday.

State of Conflict — North Carolina
This week on Moyers & Company, “State of Conflict: North Carolina” offers a documentary report from the state that votes both blue and red and sometimes purple (Romney carried it by a whisker in 2012, Obama by an eyelash in 2008). Now, however, Republicans hold the Governor’s mansion and both houses of the legislature, and they are steering North Carolina far to the right: slashing taxes on corporations and the wealthy, providing vouchers to private schools, cutting unemployment benefits, refusing to expand Medicaid, and rolling back electoral reforms, including voting rights.

Sue The Bastards Dep’t
The Texas parents of a cyberbullied teenage girl is suing six families whose kids participated in the bullying.
“‘How many children is it going to take to commit suicide, to kill themselves, to hurt themselves because of bullies out there? And the parents don’t want to take responsibility,’ [her mother] said. The couple’s lawyer … said the goal of the lawsuit is to set a precedent, and put a chill on future bullying.”

Roger Rabbit spews:
Most states now have laws against cyberstalking and cyberbullying, but enforcement is spotty and weak. In any case, these laws are aimed at deterring bullies, which is hard to do when the bullies are children, and do little to encourage parents to supervise their children.
Hitting parents in the pocketbook with lawsuits might get them to pay more attention to what their kids are up to. And knowing their behavior can get their parents sued might get some bullies to think twice and chill out.
Roger Rabbit spews:
I wonder how many shootings are related to childhood bullying. You know, the kid who was bullied in grade school reaches his later teens and acquires a gun, then hunts down his former tormenters ….

In my case it was the bully that kept escalating shit until he eventually took out his daddy’s .357 and started waving it around in the smoking area. Nobody would do anything about the guy until that happened. It seemed like it was perfectly OK for him to sucker punch people in the hall or slam people’s heads into the walls in the bathrooms until that point.

Remember Rachel Beckwith, the little girl whose 9th birthday wish was to raise $300 for a charity that brings clean drinking water to African villages? Rachel had raise a little over $200 when she died of injuries from a car accident. The media picked up the story, strangers from all over the world chipped end, and her campaign raised over $1.2 million that paid for 143 water projects serving 37,770 people in Ethiopia.
The charity in question, and Rachel’s family, still use Rachel’s story for fundraising purposes and Charity Water is still seeking funds for water projects in Africa. The latest campaign in Rachel’s name has raised $1,821 toward a $5,000 goal. Such goals, of course, are artificial; the need is immensely larger, and requests for contribution are ongoing.

Roger Rabbit Commentary: According to Wikipedia, Charity Water was founded in 2006 and has raised over $55 million that funded more than 9,000 projects benefiting 2.5 million-plus people in 20 countries.
Roger Rabbit spews:
In a world in which 85 people own wealth equal to the net worth of half of America’s 300 million citizens, access to a simple thing like clean drinking water still eludes millions (if not billions) of people. Meanwhile, a pampered billionaire compares public criticism of pampered billionaires to Nazi genocide.

Republicans always trash their opponents instead of running on issues. That’s because their policies suck and they can’t get elected without creating bogeymen to distract voters from the fact that voting Republican is never in an average voter’s best interests.
Roger Rabbit spews:
If you point out to Republicans that federal discretionary spending is falling under President Obama, they’ll try to give all the credit to House Republicans.

But when you mention the debt ceiling, they pretend the president writes budgets and the House had nothing to do with approving the spending that ran up those debts.

I am so freaking tired of the lie that the 1% are the Job Creators. People with disposable income are the Job Creators. If we don’t find a way to make low and middle class have more disposable incomes, the 1% cannot spend their wealth fast enough to compensate for everyone else, even if they wanted to, which they don’t.

Five people were shot outside a Pioneer Square nightclub early this morning. The most seriously injured victim is a 26-year-old woman who suffered facial injuries police described as “grave” and “life threatening.” She was transported to Harborview. Police said the circumstances of the shooting are “complicated.” That sounds like a code word for “gang-related” to me.
