Roger Rabbit spews:
“Foreign policy is rarely at the top of voters’ minds when they head to their polling places. Yet this year, as prospective 2016 candidates for the Republican Party consider entering the race, foreign policy may seem like one of the more compelling cases they could make for a change in leadership. As the economy slowly turns around and the problems with Obamacare are alleviated, criticism of the Obama administration has focused on issues like the emergence of ISIS and Russian President Vladimir Putin’s unsettling aggression.”

Speaking of that horrible Obamacare…
My rate is SKYROCKETING!!! Lifewise wants an extra $19 a month for 2015!!! THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!!! (Wait, they raised my rate more than that every year since I’ve had the plan and before Obamacare?!?) Damnit Obama, you’re bleeding me dry.
Meanwhile, shop around. I ran my family through WAHealthcarefinder and lo and behold, there is a plan that has a premium $87/mo cheaper than Lifewise that includes vision which Lifewise doesn’t, includes 3 FREE primary care visits (both kids annual check-ups…ZERO, $45 co-pay under Lifewise) and a deductible that is identical to Lifewise. And the plan is accepted at the nearest major medical center to my home as well as my family care provider. No, I don’t qualify for subsidies.
($87×12) =$45+$45 = $1134 savings in 2015. THIS IS AN OUTRAGE! REPEAL IT ROOT AND BRANCH!

@3 Looking around 2 years and 60 days from now and wondering…
“What Happened?”
Congratulations, Republicans! You won the Senate majority! Now, can you hold on to it for more than two years?
Looking at the 2016 Senate map, there’s reason for doubt. Republicans will have to defend 24 seats, compared with 10 for Democrats. And the raw numbers don’t even tell the whole story. Seven seats held by Republicans — Florida, Illinois, Iowa, New Hampshire, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin — were carried by President Obama in 2008 and 2012. And there is chatter about potential Republican retirements in Arizona and Iowa. If either John McCain or Chuck Grassley decided to call it a career, each of those races would be major Democratic targets.

Wow, that’s great. Cherry, picked.
Now, if you’re logging on at the Cover Oregon site or, say, the Maryland state site, how well would you do?
If you’re in
bluered Charleston, West VirginiaIn Charleston, W.Va., the state capital, only 14 health plans are available, and all are offered by Highmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Half of the plans have deductibles of $2,500 or more, and one has a deductible of $5,000 or more.

Nice piece from Sean Trende. It’s from January.
Key line:
On the other hand, if Republicans get to 54 seats, their chances of retaining control are very good, and given the horrific playing field for Democrats in 2018, they would be extremely unlikely to lose it that year.

Key Quote: “The Times analysis found that premiums had increased much more sharply in places where fewer insurers were competing for customers.”
And the quote that you highlight looks at a single county where only one company is offering plans.
Cherry Picking?
Now if only in West Texas there was some kind of program like say expanded Medicare that offered competition to keep prices low. If only in Georgia there was some kind of similar offering.

Nice year old article.
I know, let’s completely ignore that 2016 is a presidential year and the top of ticket will have a great effect, just as it did in 2008 and make a prediction that even still says Republicans hold a 60% chance of losing the Senate in 2016 if they have 54 seats going into the 2016 election.
That should fill you with confidence. Eight seats very competitive, possibly ten with retirements in a presidential year where Dem turnout will be high. Republicans will need to hold five to keep Hillary Clinton’s vice president from breaking a 50-50 tie and giving control back to Democrats.
Good luck with that.

Now if only in West Texas there was some kind of program like say expanded Medicare that offered competition to keep prices low. If only in Georgia there was some kind of similar offering.
If only there were some codified financial incentive, such as large monetary subsidies available only if these programs were created, that would encourage otherwise understandably reluctant states to do something not in their own best interests.
Let’s ask Gruber if we can set something like that up. You know, in case it doesn’t already exist somewhere.

For some reason I think I would be happier to see Trende update his assessment than you would.
You’re right, the piece is nearly a year old. Back that far Trende had no idea that Hillary was considering a run for president.
Yes, you are right, the GOP will face challenges in 2016. Fortunately they can lose three seats and still maintain Senate control, FWIW.
Of course, fortunately for your side, you have Barack Obama available to barnstorm the country campaigning side-by-side with each and every one of your Senate challengers and incumbents. Especially those ’60th vote’ senators.

#3 Most Socialist State – Wyoming – Expenditures as Proportion of GDP: 21.8%
#2 Most Socialist State – Alaska – Expenditures as Proportion of GDP: 23.6%
#1 Most Socialist State – West Virginia – Expenditures as Proportion of GDP: 34.1%

Has Dori seen what is happening to the eastside?
There are many, many, many people who look like Kshama Sawant walking around Bellevue Square.
Heck, they’ve taken over Microsoft.
It is time right thinking people stood up and say that if a community does not respect the Jefferson Davis privilege we were born with, we’ll not frequent that community.
Heck, it is not that we don’t like those people, they just need to mind their own business, shop in their own stores, and when they are around us.. keep quiet! When they don’t they should feel the fool force of the law!

@7 I’ve got pretty good healthcare working for a private company and those deductibles are in line with the plans that I am offered. What are suggesting that we give out free healthcare to everyone, what do you think this is socialism?
Teabagger spews:
For someone that doesn’t have healthcare and didn’t like the idea of obamacare because you don’t want to pay a high premium, I think you would like the idea of higher deductibles, as if you didn’t have to buy healthcare in the first place, at the lower cost of premium.
