There are estimates that the Cuban embargo costs the U.S. from $1.2B to $4B (so probably somewhere in the middle) in lost trade on top of the $30m we spend in hard cash broadcasting radio and TV Marti into Cuba which the Cubans learned how to block decades ago but any hint of cutting that channel leads to screams of “Commie Sympathizers” or “Friends of Fidel” from the usual suspects.
How about we just stop pretending that a postage stamp of an island in the Caribbean is an existential threat to the American way of life.

An American President advocated unequivocally for the rights of sexual minorities, as well as religious minorities and ethnic minorities, on an international stage in the full glare of the international press. Obama may be an infuriating middle-of-the-road Conservadem addicted to Wall Street, but man, sometimes he really makes me proud.
