Hey, right-leaning folks…I have a serious question for y’all.
Mark the Redneck had this to say in a comment thread yesterday:
“These fucking people want to kill us. All of us. If torture is what it takes to win this war, go for it. Deprive them of sleep. Pull their fingernails out. Fuck them up the ass. Fuck with their heads. Cut appendeges off. Even make them wear women’s panties if that’s what it takes.”
and he had this to say in this comment thread:
“It’s way too easy to vote. It’s too easy for there to be illegal votes. It’s too easy for stoopid people to vote. It’s too easy for freeloaders to vote.
I think that in order to vote, you must:
1) Prove you are a legal citizen of this country.
2) Pass a test to prove you understand the uniquely Murkan system of governance.
3) Prove you are a Producer and not a Taker. Producers vote. Takers don’t.”
(additionally, he doesn’t make good on his bets.)
I know that some folks on the right are very sensitive to the use of the term “fascist” to refer to individuals who demonstrate such tendencies. My question is, has MTR crossed that threshold where the term is fitting and can be used factually to describe him?
3
karlspews:
I take exception to his 2nd and 3rd point on voting.
the second point ignores the fact that a) if you are a legal adult you surely took civics in high school and b) that immigrants granted citizenship already have to take a test on that subject, and like know more then high school graduates.
For the third requirement, I have to strongly disagree. This is returning us to an unfair system. Will he extend it and make it for landowners only? This is akin to the poll tax of old.
Now granted, I agree that restricing felons has merit till they have served their time and paid full restitution. But I wont deny people on welfare the ability to participate.
As to his rant on torture…Sigh, I admit, its easy to want to agree, because frankly, in an us versus them discussion, I vote for us. But we also have principles and morals we need to maintain.
I feel that torture and deliberate abuse should be illegal. I want to agree and say its ok in high yield cases, where imminent danger puts lives are at stake, but the burden on that is so high, and almost impossible to discern. I dont see how it could be fairly used.
I do however feel that there can be levels of interrogation and persuasion that are not torture or abuse but may be uncomfortable. I think there can be an argument made there.
I think we need to make a solid distinction about which is which, and hold our soldiers accountable to that standard.
One of the reasons I opposed the ban on torture ammendment is that it only confirms existing law, which makes it partially unecessary. it was also vague in some areas, and leaves too much open to interpretation.
I think its a good idea, if it could be made measureable.
Just my 2 cents. Flame away.
To answer the initial question, I dont like the term facist and think its overused here. I think MTR has overstepped common sense, but regardless I would not apply it here. he has still stopped a little short of that label. I think he is reactionary and overzealous more then anything.

Hiding the Cisneros Report
Hillary Clinton’s lawyer is staying very busy.
Friday, October 7, 2005 12:01 a.m. EDT
What don’t David Kendall, the law firm of Williams & Connolly, and clients such as Hillary Rodham Clinton want the public to know?
We’d have thought that question would be on more Washington lips as the report of Independent Counsel David Barrett languishes under seal at the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Barrett is the fellow who began investigating a tax-fraud case involving former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Henry Cisneros but expanded his probe to include alleged abuses by the Clinton Justice Department and IRS.
Yet instead of exhibiting any curiosity, the press corps is again writing its semi-annual stories about the costs of keeping Mr. Barrett’s office open. The fact is that Mr. Barrett would love to close up shop if only Democratic lawyers and the judges of the so-called “special division” that oversees his work would let him.
Readers may recall the last iteration of this drama in April, when Senators Byron Dorgan, John Kerry and Richard Durbin attached an amendment to a war appropriations bill that would have stopped funding Mr. Barrett’s office. We pointed out that this would have returned control of the Barrett probe to one of the very departments implicated–Justice–and, happily, the amendment was killed.
Now a new report from the Government Accountability Office is being used as an excuse for still more complaints about the Barrett probe. We agree it’s high time it finished, but this isn’t possible until somebody puts a stop to delaying tactics by lawyers for those named in the report. (Mr. Cisneros himself long ago pleaded guilty, and was pardoned by Bill Clinton in 2001.)
In April we reported that Williams & Connolly–which represents many prominent Democrats, including Mr. Cisneros–had filed more than 190 motions and appeals, one of which alone took 18 months to deal with. Now we are told that yet another secret delay order has been granted by the court. What’s more, Williams & Connolly’s Mr. Kendall–who as far as anyone knows represents not Mr. Cisneros but Mrs. Clinton–has been among those spotted at the courthouse reviewing the IC’s report.
One possible motivation isn’t hard to imagine: Senator Clinton is running for re-election next year (never mind any possible Presidential ambitions), and she can’t be excited about the possible release of a report that might reflect poorly on the Clinton Administration’s IRS and Justice Department, especially with the IRS having been run by her friend, Peggy Richardson. Our calls this week to Mr. Kendall and Williams & Connolly for comment on the delays were not returned.
What we do know for sure is that the 400-plus-page Barrett Report is essentially done, and has been for about a year; that the rules that allow a review and comment period for individuals named in IC reports are fair and proper; but that the review period (which was scheduled to finish in May) must end sometime if the public interest in seeing the results of the $22 million investigation is to be served. We’re told the Barrett report will be an eye-opener, as it is the first time the IRS has ever been investigated using grand jury subpoena powers. If the Senators and Congressmen like Henry Waxman are as concerned about the use of taxpayer money as they’ve professed to be, they’d urge Williams & Connolly to resolve its outstanding issues with Mr. Barrett and allow his report to finally see the light of day. http://www.opinionjournal.com/.....=110007374

Meanwhile, administration officials asserted NSA’s illegal domestic spying the new program thwarted terrorist plots, citing as an example the case of Iyman Faris, who pleaded guilty in 2003. But are they lying? Faris’s lawyer says none of the evidence against him appeared to come from surveillance.

Sure, Mike. You believe what you want. After all, you appear to rely on the editorial pages of the WSJ for factual information, which of course, is absurd. I see the NRO and Novak are all echoing the same line. Funny how that happens. Just like the fucking bunch of trained sheep they are.
They also claim GOP legislators were hornswaggled by the dems and their “stealth” amendment to a recent appropriations bill. So, from this it seems safe to assert that the GOP, which controls all three branches of government (that includes the Dept. of Justice, just so you know, Mike)cannot get its hands on this $22 million report which will blow the lid off the malfeasance in the Clinton Admin. and Hillary in particular, and they were DUPED BY THE (essentially powerless) MINORITY PARTY.
If this is the case, then clearly the GOP does not deserve to govern. They are both stupid and inept.
You remember the black helicopters, Mike? Troopergate? The alleged murder of Vince Foster? You believed that stuff, too, didn’t you?

I also witnessed an amazing event at a high school basketball game last night in front of a packed gymnasium. One teams fans (adults) were stunned…some were outraged at this “evangelical display”. It appeared to me that it was merely a wonderful form of exercising free speech.
Merry Christmas Roger!!

“Meantime, whilst the doors of the temple stand open, night and day, before every man, and the oracles of this truth cease never, it is guarded by one stern condition; this, namely; it [the religious impulse] is an intuition. It cannot be received at second hand. Truly speaking, it is not instruction, but provocation, that I can receive from another soul. What he announces, I must find true in me, or wholly reject; and on his word, or as his second, be he who he may, I can accept nothing. On the contrary, the absence of this primary faith is the presence of degradation. As is the flood so is the ebb. Let this faith depart, and the very words it spake, and the things it made, become false and hurtful. Then falls the church, the state, art, letters, life. The doctrine of the divine nature being forgotten, a sickness infects and dwarfs the constitution.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson Divinity School Address, 1838
The coercion of peer pressure involved in such a display, undoubtedly advanced by one of the teams jocks who is also on the student council — the one who’ll sell insurance one day, is actually antithetical to what Emerson refered to as the “sentiment of virtue.”

Hey Dj – Since you’re obviously offended by some of the things I’ve said, instead of trying to brand me, why don’t you instead try to debate me logically on anything I’ve said.
1) If I understand you, you think there are definite limits we should stop at when trying to get information out of suicidal maniacs who wish to kill all of us. Why? Doesn’t anything go when it’s matter of life and death?
2a) Also, you seem to take exception to my suggestions about honest elections. Aren’t legal voters “disenfranchised” (to use favorite moonbat term) when illegal votes are counted?
2b) The Murkan system of self government is unique in the world, and it has what has made us so successful. Self determination, freedom, limited government, power flowing from people to government, property rights, states rights, etc are all unique in the world. Yet we’ve allowed our culture to become polluted with other ideas that are demonstrate failures. So why isn’t it reasonable to require that people first understand the ideas that made us great before they are allowed to vote, and potentially fuck it up.
2c) Don’t you agree that it’s stupid on its face to let some people (the Takers) vote to take money from other people (the Producers). If that’s how it works, why would anyone want to be a producer? And if there are no producers what happens to civilization? Do you think Atlas won’t Shrug?
So if you’re such a fucking genius, such a smart guy…. or if any of you other moonbats want to take me on, have at it. One rule though…. use of the word “nazi” and you are automatically disqualified.

Republican Jewish Coalition to Launch Ad Campaign Countering Reform Movement’s Anti-War Position
Monday, December 12, 2005
See the ad here.
The Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) will launch a large-scale print ad campaign beginning December 13th in the New York Times and many other newspapers, to counter the Union for Reform Judaism’s critical statements against the war in Iraq.
The URJ recently passed a resolution in opposition to the Iraq war, and their president Rabbi Eric H. Yoffie charged, “The sentiment was clear and overwhelming, American Jews, and all Americans, are profoundly critical of this war and they want this Administration to tell us how and when it will bring our troops home.” Dr. Michael Rankin, URJ Board of Trustee, added, “This is not a just war.”
“The reform movement does not speak for all Jews, or for all Reform Jews,” said RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks.
To demonstrate this, 180 signatories, including two past Chairmen of the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations, from across the country have attached their names to a full-page newspaper ad that states the reform movement does not speak for all Jews. Other signers include rabbis and cantors; national political leaders such as Governor Linda Lingle (R-HI), Senator Norm Coleman (R-MN), Congressman Eric Cantor (R-VA), as well as state and local elected officials.
“It is essential that we show the country that the Reform movement does not speak for the American Jewish community,” said Brooks. “Many American Jews support this President and recognize that Iraq is the central battle in the War on Terror. We will win in Iraq because the future security of the United States and our friends around the world depends on our victory.
“A wide-range of political opinions exists within the American Jewish community,” Brooks stressed, “and the RJC’s ad campaign emphasizes that the URJ is wrong to assume that all Jews share their anti-war views.” http://www.rjchq.org/News.asp?.....038;ID=976

For the Cluelessspews:
48 – OOHHHH boy right on cue again with the latest wingnut talking point.
My response: sure it’s great! Can we take our soldiers out of the meatgrinder that we set into motion over there? Can we stop the losing of lives, body parts and the hemorraghing of billions of treasure that my kids and their kids will have to pay for?
What will happen? Some soldiers will come home but a lot will stay because the U.S. wants an American police precinct in Iraq to take the place of the one in Saudi Arabia we just vacated. A lot of the Iraqis will want us to leave but that won’t happen because the Kurds want us to stay. Worse comes to worse we “redeploy” to Kurdistan and Kuwait and we’re right back to square one patrolling the northern and southern frontiers of a region only instead of containing Saddam we’re containing a hornet’s nest of Shia and Sunnis settling old scores.
You’ve made something of what a big rich guy you are because you “worked hard”. You’re not working so hard now are you, but what the hell you earned it. And now life is doubly sweet because George Bush has cut your taxes and wants to keep on cutting! Didn’t the House just cut another 90 some billion in taxes?
And a middle income guy like me who works hard and his kids and his grandkids are going to have to pay for the whole debacle and for the rehab and therapy for those surviving soldiers while ASSHOLES like you (your words) skate! Got any heirs? Wow they’re going to have it sweet as well. Your estate won’t owe a dime to the soldiers who defended it if George Bush and company have their way!
1) You feel a strong tug in your heart at the symbols of patriotism: flags, mottoes, patriotic songs, etc. You’d like to see it everywhere if possible to remind people they live in the greatest nation on earth.
2) You believe the enemies of your country as you see them aren’t entitled to any “human rights”.
3) You believe liberals and other groups in this country who disagree with the current political course should be ignored or shouted down and if they get too uppity you wish they would just “go away”.
4) You believe the highest government spending priority bar none is the military, police, intelligence agencies and homeland security. You believe soldiers, military, intelligence and law enforcement agents live noble lives that all americans should aspire to.
5) You believe that men are more capable and suited for leadership and government. You believe the country is better off when women “know their place”.
6) You believe the media should acquiese to whatever the goverment needs from them when the goverment needs it. A good newspaper or magazine always write favorable stories about the current goverment’s programs or policies.
7) You believe America is under severe threat from its enemies. You believe the world is a bad neighborhood and it’s 2 o’clock in the morning.
8) You believe the country is better off when religion works closely with the goverment like in George Bush’s faith based initiatives. You believe religious charity is the best form of social program.
9) You believe the country is better off when the shackles of taxation and regulation are removed from corporations. You see nothing wrong with a revolving door between government and business and the closest of ties between corporations and government.
10) You believe every state in the union should be a “right to work” state. You believe the time of labor unions has passed, they are irrelevant and the country would be better off if they faded away completely.
11) You believe academia and the artistic community are completely corrupt and if they dissent and show any unpatriotic tendencies should have their funding cut or otherwise see 3 above.
12) You believe police and homeland security should have all the resources necessary like the Patriot Act to enforce the laws. You believe civil rights get in the way of effective law enforcement.
13) You believe the political leadership should have the leeway to appoint anyone they need to positions of leadership. If the President wants Mike Brown to come back to FEMA, he should come back. You believe the advise and consent clause of the Constitution should be just a mere formality and is generally just a waste of time. You believe the federal goverment owns too much land and resources and they should be all auctioned off to the highest bidder.
14) You believe in highest of standards for voting in elections: strict rules with no exceptions, literacy and “producer” status. You believe voting is a privilege, something that has to be earned and not the birthright of American citizens.
Hey, “Comment” I suspect that is not an original list. If it is, I apologize. But, if not I would like to have the source for another use. Thanks.

Mark The Redneckspews:
Clueless
1) You feel a strong tug in your heart at the symbols of patriotism: flags, mottoes, patriotic songs, etc. You’d like to see it everywhere if possible to remind people they live in the greatest nation on earth.
We do live in the greatest nation on earth. Ever. Don’t you think so?
2) You believe the enemies of your country as you see them aren’t entitled to any “human rights”.
No, they are not. None. None at all.
3) You believe liberals and other groups in this country who disagree with the current political course should be ignored or shouted down and if they get too uppity you wish they would just “go away”.
I believe no one is completely useless. They can always be used as a bad example. Ted Kennedy and Chucky Schumer and “Rev” Jackson and the rest of the hate fill extremists can point the right way for us, by pointing the wrong way. So I’m satisfied if they’re “a nuisance, but not a threat.”
4) You believe the highest government spending priority bar none is the military, police, intelligence agencies and homeland security. You believe soldiers, military, intelligence and law enforcement agents live noble lives that all americans should aspire to.
Yes, absolutely. The whole concept of “entitlements” for takers who have fucked up their lives through a lifetime of bad choices is evil on its face.
5) You believe that men are more capable and suited for leadership and government. You believe the country is better off when women “know their place”.
It’s not that women can’t serve capably, but more that they choose not to. Face it, women have different priorities than men. That’s not bad. It’s just the way it is. So while most men work hard to build a career, for most women it’s just a choice. Consequently they treat it as such, and generally they are much less qualified than men because they simply haven’t worked at it as hard as men.
6) You believe the media should acquiese to whatever the goverment needs from them when the goverment needs it. A good newspaper or magazine always write favorable stories about the current goverment’s programs or policies.
No, not at all. The “MSM” is hopelessly partisan on the left. A real media should report on what’s happening. But today’s MSM has long since been corrupted and is now nearly worthless. That’s why you see the decline of newspapers and TV “News” and the rise of blogs and talk radio.
7) You believe America is under severe threat from its enemies. You believe the world is a bad neighborhood and it’s 2 o’clock in the morning.
There is evil in the world. Always has been. Always will be. They wait and attack us when we’re weak usually after a long reign of Dem leadership. Then the adults have to step in and clean up the mess.
8) You believe the country is better off when religion works closely with the goverment like in George Bush’s faith based initiatives. You believe religious charity is the best form of social program.
Government “charity” is a demonstrable failure which leads only to hopelessness, despair and unhealthy dependency. Person to person help WITH ACCOUNTABILITY is infinitely better than government handouts.
9) You believe the country is better off when the shackles of taxation and regulation are removed from corporations. You see nothing wrong with a revolving door between government and business and the closest of ties between corporations and government.
I believe people and corporations ought to be allowed to keep most of THEIR money. After all, we did the hard work to earn it. To suggest that someone else is “entitled” to the fruits of my life energy is evil. The rest of what you said is stupid.
10) You believe every state in the union should be a “right to work” state. You believe the time of labor unions has passed, they are irrelevant and the country would be better off if they faded away completely.
Not at all. I’m a member of a union.
11) You believe academia and the artistic community are completely corrupt and if they dissent and show any unpatriotic tendencies should have their funding cut or otherwise see 3 above.
They should pay their own way.
12) You believe police and homeland security should have all the resources necessary like the Patriot Act to enforce the laws. You believe civil rights get in the way of effective law enforcement.
No, police and homeland security should use every tool at their disposal in the right situation. Certainly Patriot Act opens the door to mischief especially in the hands of miscreant politicians. I’m OK with GWB having it, but can you imagine Her Highness with this power. That’s scary….
Jobs should be given to the most highly qualifed person. Pigment and plumbing should not be factors. Brown was an idiot obviously. Not sure where you’re going with advise and consent… should kooks like Ted Kennedy be able to fillibuster SCOTUS nominees? No. And yes, fed gummint owns too much land.
14) You believe in highest of standards for voting in elections: strict rules with no exceptions, literacy and “producer” status. You believe voting is a privilege, something that has to be earned and not the birthright of American citizens.
I think we need honest elections with only legal vote counting. I think you need to understand the unique American culture and how it works and why it works and where it came from. And if you have a conflict of interest in the vote (you stand to gain from stealing money from others) than you can’t vote until you’re off the dole.
Good post. Good questions for once. Am I wrong? If so, tell me WHY.

marksspews:
Clueless @55
I know these were for MTR, but since I have some time: my answers:
1)I feel great when I see the flag and stand at attention for the national anthem. What others may do or feel is not something to be concerned with, unless they are a fire hazard burning flags.
2)Hmmm, does this include the French? If not, my answer is no.
3)I have a number of friends and several relatives who are liberal in their views. If I did not like it I would quit associating with them, but honestly if all we talked about were politics, we would not have the enjoyment that comes from association.
4)I would rate it pretty high, but the government has many areas of responsibility.
5)As I told MTR regarding his vaginal fallacy, the senior Senator from Texas is Kay Bailey Hutchison(R). Blanket misstatements are not merely bad, but particularly when proven wrong.
6)That reminds me of the book “1984”
7)Ridiculous. My watch says it is ~8 pm.
8)What is the problem with that? The government can’t do everything itself. Interestingly, the Katrina lawlessness problems ended when the National Guard and other military units took control of New Orleans. Having a competent military capable of action is the reason why I responded the way I did @ issue 4
9)I am thoroughly for taxing corporations that make a profit.
10)To a point. My wife works for a union (UFCW). Beginning next year, in addition to her paying her weekly dues, she gets to pay for her co-workers medical. See, she doesn’t use their medical she uses mine. If I did not use my company medical, the company would give me $600. There is something wrong in union la-la-land
11)No, just do the free speech thingy and stop trying to limit the college Republicans. Folks like Ward Churchill should be given the mike more often, IMO. They make it easy to forget about corrupt Republicans.
12)I believe civil rights are important, just like having a strong military is important. The Patriot Act has several provisions expiring. Fine. I hope they were not necessary.
13)What advise and consent actually means is to determine a person’s qualification to the job that he or she is being appointed. It does not mean you can or should oppose somebody merely on the basis of ideology.
14)No, but the rule of law is important. If something bad occurs over and over again, shouldn’t it be fixed? That is why Judge Bridges criticized KC elections when he handed down his opinion on the Rossi debacle.

For the Cluelessspews:
MTR – ok, your response is interesting.
First it doesn’t look like you clicked through to my link at the end. All I did in my post was restate Britt’s 14 characteristics of fascism. On the whole you looked at my post favorably (“Good questions for once”) as if it struck a favorable chord with you – that’s not a good sign. It tells me you’d get along just fine in Pinochet’s Chile, Suharto’s Indonesia, Franco’s Spain, Mussolini’s Italy etc. These men gained power through demagoguery and brute force. They maintained their power though manipulating the symbols of ultra-nationalism and hyping the fear of enemies. They turned their respective countries into economic backwaters through cronyism and corruption.
Obviously John McCain who was tortured in Vietnam disagrees with you about human rights. Is he helping America’s enemies because he doesn’t want to see America torturing them? Americans shouldn’t lower themselves to the level of their enemies. One it doesn’t accomplish much and two we wouldn’t want it done to ourselves.
A lot of your other responses show more sexism and a yearning for a simplistic black and white view of things. Women are appointed to positions of leadership because it’s good politics. Women are voters. Women are citizens. Women want options in life just like men – not just staying home “in their place” or suffering quietly under a glass ceiling. It goes without saying that a woman appointed to a leadership job has to be able to do the work. What I just said applies to people of color as well.
However, you belong to a union. That is a good sign. Fascists see unions and their supportive rank and file as enemies of the state like communists. If this country turned farther to the right and Washington state was taken over by that brand of Republican then it would be almost a certainty that WA would turn “right to work”. You could find one day that your union would be decertified and you might be forced to compete against others for less pay. How would you feel then? We all know union seniority isn’t a perfect system but how would you feel if the boss’s son, relative or friend of a friend got promoted over you or took your job? Happens every day in non-union shops. It’s called nepotism and cronyism.
In general, I think there’s hope for you but it’s really slim.

Marks – If you want your posts to get through, you must use words like shit, piss, cock, cunt, motherfucker, and screw. You can call Goldy a cocksucking hymie kyke if you want. YOu can even say “nigger” if you want.
But if you refer to a system whereby wealth is redistributed, you must refer to it by an alias such as “grouchoandharpoism” because to call it what it is, apparently offends some people.
Hey, right-leaning folks…I have a serious question for y’all.
I know that some folks on the right are very sensitive to the use of the term “fascist” to refer to individuals who demonstrate such tendencies.
Comment by dj— 12/16/05 @ 11:38 pm
So wanting people to be a legal citizen before they can vote make you a facist? Subjecting terrorists to wearing womens panties on their head makes you a facist? Well pencil me in! Of course coming from the commie left that is a compliment. The definition of a facist to the left is laughable to most Americans. Just like their definition of what “is” is.
81
djspews:
RUFUS @ 64
“So wanting people to be a legal citizen before they can vote make you a facist?”
Nope…that idea is universally held by almost everyone in every democracy. Apparently, you didn’t actually finish reading MTR’s comments.
“Subjecting terrorists to wearing womens panties on their head makes you a facist?”
Perhaps (although I though MTR threw that one in as humor). Torturing people is fascist. And we are not talking about people who have been convicete or even charged with anything. Just people we “suspect.”
Yeah…that seems much closer to fascism than it is to traditional (i.e. pre-2001 or, is it just pre-2000?) American values.
“Well pencil me in!”
Noted. RUFUS does not believe in universal sufferage and he is in favor of torturing people who are only suspected of crimes. Fucking anti-American asshole!
82
Mark The Redneckspews:
RUFUS – Let me explain… one of the techniques used by people who can’t win arguments on a logical basis is to instead attack their opponents on a personal basis. One of their favorite plays is to brand their opponents with a label that automatically eliminates them from the discussion. For example, if a person is acknowledged by everyone in the debate to be a “racist” or a “nazi” or a “fascist”, then that person is no longer able to engage in the debate on a prima facie basis.
So it’s actually a victory for our side when guys like me are attacked and attempts made to label me as DJ has attempted and failed twice to do. When they do that, it means that I cannot be defeated through use of logic and reason, and they instead go to a weak “Plan B”. This always happens to the left when their actual ideas are broken down to their essential elements and exposed plainly.

“If you want your posts to get through, you must use words like shit, piss, cock, cunt, motherfucker, and screw. “

These comment threads would be nearly useless without the filter (as in: there would be on the order of 500 to 2000 spam posts added each day to comment threads).
Although you might like the gambling spam. Apparently you like to gamble but don’t make good on your bets.

President Reagan. through bold leadership and brilliant strategy defeated the USSR and ended the Cold War. He freed hundreds of millions of people around the world. He stopped the kililng. He called evil what it was, confronted it and defeated it. Did he get a Nobel Peace Prize? No. Was he nominated? No.
Tookie Williams founded an organization that killed thousands of people. He himself was a brutal murderer. He left a legacy of untold suffering and misery. Yet he gets nominated for a “Peace” prize.
The Worst President of the 20th Century received a Nobel for capitulating to an emerging enemy and making us look like fools. By failing to confront evil in its formative stages, he let it metastasize to what it is today.

“Can somebody explain Nobel Prizes and nominations to me? I don’t get it…”
Well…the easiest thing would be for you to read the FAQ.
“President Reagan….Did he get a Nobel Peace Prize?”
No. If he was nominated, the Norwegian Nobel Committee did not believe his contributions warranted a prize.
“Was he nominated? No.”
He might well have been nominated. Nominations are not supposed to be disclosed for 50 years. From the Nobel Foundation:
The statutes of the Nobel Foundation restricts disclosure of information about the nominations, whether publicly or privately, until fifty years have elapsed. The restriction concerns the nominees and nominators as well as investigations and opinions in the awarding of a prize.
“This kind of shit is only explainable by a delerious moonbat… the types who crawl here.”
“This kind of shit” is most easily explained by the fact that you liked Reagan and dislike Carter. Big fucking mystery.
“Can any of you “educate” me?”
Ummm…unless I misunderestimate you, it is unlikely you are “educatable.”
Jimmy Carter is a good man but was a terrible president. Four more years of Carter would have been disasterous. I love Ronald(the commie slayer)Regan.

Mark The Redneckspews:

People do not vote to steal other people’s money.
“Or explain to me why we shouldn’t beat the fuck out of terrorists if that’s what it takes to save Murkan lives… even yours… “
But, you should clarify whether you are talking about terrorist suspects or convicted terrorists. Obviously, convicted terrorists are eligible to be “tortured” through prison sentences or even the death sentence (e.g. Timothy McVeigh).
For terrorist suspects, it defies traditional American values, violates international law and violates domestic laws to administer torture.

See? I can play this game, too.
You know how those pseudo-Christian religio-fascists play the Jesus game? It works like this. They act mean to somebody. Then they pray and accept Jesus into their hearts and get forgiven. Then they go screw somebody else, because now that they’ve been saved, they can’t get into trouble, so they can do whatever they want because they won’t go to Hell for it. That’s how it works.

“Why hasn’t anyone considered passing a law that holds initiatives to a super majority needed to pass?”
I personally wouldn’t mind if a super majority was required to pass initiatives. Better yet, get rid of initiatives althgether and let the legislatures do the work we elect them to do. If this source is correct, only 24 of 50 states have some type of initiative process.
I am sure there are arguments in favor of citizens initiatives, but I spent most of my adult life in two states without them, so they seemed unnecessary to me. When I first moved to Washington in the late 1990s, we got hit with I695, which was a populist “free ice cream cones for all!” movement that undermined responsible management of the state highway infrastructure. That left a bad taste in my mouth about initiatives. (On the other hand, I’ve never been so involved in state politics as I have been in WA—in part, fighting initiatives like I912—so maybe that is a good thing).
In any case, any change (supermajority or elimination) would require a constitutional amendment. In Washington, I believe the legislature would have to do that since there is no provisions in our constitution for initiative-based constitutional amendments like there are in some other states.

I wasn’t here for I-695. I did read a lot about the super majority after failures for school bonds. There are a lot of people who want to eliminate it just to pass them. The people who wrote about keeping them, talked about their vote to tax themselves was diluted with many votes by people who didn’t have a dog in the fight because they don’t own any property.
I have also read several articles about our form of government and that one of the original goals is that it protects the minority from a majority mob mentality. Would we have had civil rights when we did, if the simple 51% applied.
I am disturbed that our legislatures continues to punt, instead of work to get concensus and enact laws that benefit the greater society while protecting the minorities.
I also am growing weary of the widespread corruption and greed in all levels of government, public service and our society as a whole.

My question is, has MTR crossed that threshold where the term is fitting and can be used factually to describe him?
karl spews:

On the contrary, the absence of this primary faith is the presence of degradation. As is the flood so is the ebb. Let this faith depart, and the very words it spake, and the things it made, become false and hurtful. Then falls the church, the state, art, letters, life.

Jewish Americans speak out on Iraq.
“A wide-range of political opinions exists within the American Jewish community,” Brooks stressed, “and the RJC’s ad campaign emphasizes that the URJ is wrong to assume that all Jews share their anti-war views.”

If you believe in all of that, I feel sorry for you.

For the Clueless spews:

So wanting people to be a legal citizen before they can vote make you a facist? Subjecting terrorists to wearing womens panties on their head makes you a facist? Well pencil me in! Of course coming from the commie left that is a compliment. The definition of a facist to the left is laughable to most Americans. Just like their definition of what “is” is.
dj spews:
Mark The Redneck spews:
This always happens to the left when their actual ideas are broken down to their essential elements and exposed plainly.
dj spews:

“Marxist” has never triggered a “hold” on a post. Apparently the author of the wordpress spam filter that Goldy uses did not believe that spammers include this word in posts. Why “soc1a11st?” Beats the hell out of me. Most other words that trigger a “hold” are far more logical.

Hey DJ, how does it feel to get your ass kicked? This is ultimate victory… and the mainstay of military theory… that an enemy when faced with overwhelming odds chooses not to engage. Victory with no bloodshed.

Can somebody explain Nobel Prizes and nominations to me? I don’t get it…
President Reagan. through bold leadership and brilliant strategy defeated the USSR and ended the Cold War.
WTF? This kind of shit is only explainable by a delerious moonbat… the types who crawl here. Can any of you “educate” me?

That said, the US Army never seems to be able to leave, we’ve had soldiers in Japan forever, soldiers in Korea forever, soldiers in Germany forever, soldiers in Turkey foever, soldiers on permanent rotation in Egypt, soldiers in Bosnia, soldiers all over Central America, soldier is Kuwait, soldiers in Qatar, the list goes on and Army soldiers are stationed in over 100 countries and they have been in the those countries for years. So, I’m thinking why should Iraq be any different?

“Can somebody explain Nobel Prizes and nominations to me? I don’t get it…”
Well…the easiest thing would be for you to read the FAQ.
“President Reagan….Did he get a Nobel Peace Prize?”
No. If he was nominated, the Norwegian Nobel Committee did not believe his contributions warranted a prize.
“Was he nominated? No.”
He might well have been nominated. Nominations are not supposed to be disclosed for 50 years. From the Nobel Foundation:
“This kind of shit is only explainable by a delerious moonbat… the types who crawl here.”
“This kind of shit” is most easily explained by the fact that you liked Reagan and dislike Carter. Big fucking mystery.
“Can any of you “educate” me?”
Ummm…unless I misunderestimate you, it is unlikely you are “educatable.”
RUFUS spews:
Jimmy Carter is a good man but was a terrible president. Four more years of Carter would have been disasterous. I love Ronald(the commie slayer)Regan.
Mark The Redneck spews:
Hey DJ- Wait a minute… go back and explain to me why illegal votes should count or why people should be able to vote to steal other people’s money. I’m still waiting.
Or explain to me why we shouldn’t beat the fuck out of terrorists if that’s what it takes to save Murkan lives… even yours…
Mark The Redneck spews:
RUFUS – Carter was not evil… I think he meant well. But he was an awful president. As Hannity pointed out, he took credit for the little good that did happen during his administration, and blamed The People for everything that went wrong. That’s not leadership…
dj spews:
Mark The Fascist @ 86
“Explain to me why illegal votes should count…”
They shouldn’t.
“or why people should be able to vote to steal other people’s money.”

Hey CluelessASS, you can call us hypocrites all you want. We’ll call your type sinners. What did Jesus call SATAN? Father of sin and all lies. Therefore you and your buddies are the spawn of SATAN!
Roger Rabbit spews:
Speaking of sinners — Roger Rabbit is a sinner! Thank God there’s a God, because Roger Rabbit’s soul needs a lot of saving! Roger Rabbit smokes, drinks, swears, fucks, and takes the Lord’s name in vain. But everything will be forgiven! So — go fuck yourselves, you God-damned Republicans!
Well, Roger Rabbit also prayed and took Jesus into my heart, and I’ve been saved too! Sooooooo … go fuck yourselves, you God-damned Republicans!
Roger Rabbit spews:
I don’t see why the God-damned Republicans should have a monopoly on soul saving or bad behavior. The God-damned Republicans want a monopoly on every fucking thing! It seems to me there’s more than enough bad behavior to go around, so I don’t see why they should keep it all for themselves.

Why hasn’t anyone considered passing a law that holds initiatives to a super majority needed to pass?
dj spews:
sgmmac @ 74
Mark The Redneck spews:
DJ – Should tax increases also require a supermajority? I say Yes.

sgmmac spews:
DJ

What does Brooks do to make enough cash to pay Aerosmith $2M to sing for his daughter (Kenny G was there, too, but I think not for Liza)?
His Point Blank Body Armor (a subsidiary of his DHB Industries — David H. Brooks Industies, get it?), is a company that supplies the Marines with bullet-proof vests. The cancelled Interceptor program millions of dollars to two primary contractors earning millions of dollars making the vest-like armor and its associated “systems”.
