From today’s Seattle Times: “Phillips, a Seattle Democrat who supports Republican Hague over Democrat Pope, said of her contributions, “It suggests that Jane is really serious about retaining her seat and being re-elected to the King County Council. She wants to continue to be a player, and that’s a significant statement.””
So the Democrats are conceding the King council seat to the lying drunk driving cheating Republican Hague. Do they think if the situation was reversed the Republicans would be supporting the Democrat candidate? To ask that question is to answer it. The Republicans are awful in many many ways. But, unlike the Democrats, they are fighters! They know that a candidate they dislike with an (R ) after his name is better for them than any candidate with a (D). Democrat gains locally and nationally are because of Republican mis-steps not because of courage and leadership.

Plus Hague is a known entity and the way the KC council goes quite predictable and (in)effective based on numbers. Pope on the other hand could be a loose canon and if he is not kept under control, could “investigate” the current D council members and publish things. Now would he do this and bite the hand that feeds him ? Hard to say…but the D’s are scared and Jane is the lesser of two evils for them. It’s not about what is right, it’s to retain power in all aspects and both sides.
Now one could say: It’s already so f’d up…so why not vote for Pope and have some fun. How much worse could it get ?
“Democrat gains locally and nationally are because of Republican mis-steps not because of courage and leadership.”

That pretty much sums it up, RSS. But the Republican “mis-steps” are pretty glaring, like getting involved in a foreign adventure without a clue as to how to wrap it up. The Republicans stand to be on the outs for a decade or two.

“OLYMPIA — Gov. Christine Gregoire is on Governing magazine’s November cover, honored … as one of the nation’s top public officials.
Gregoire, the only governor on the list of nine officials, is cited for her work on government accountability and her ‘negotiator-in-chief’ style of dealing with tough problems. The magazine calls her a ‘deft and inclusive dealmaker’ and says Gregoire runs one of the most open state governments in the country. …
“Gregoire, a Democrat and former three-term attorney general, is running for re-election next year. The campaign office for her Republican challenger, Dino Rossi, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.”

Local Group Offers to Buy Sonics & Storm, Play In Key Arena
The fishwrapper reported this morning that a group of local entrepreneurs, including several former minority owners, has offered to buy the teams back from Clay Bennett’s group, and indicated several other local potential buyers have also expressed interest.
The group’s leader said he believes Key Arena is an “acceptable” venue and they would extend the lease beyond 2010.

It’s 10:55 a.m., 2 November 2007. This thread has been up for more than 12 1/2 hours. Roger Maggot has been here, and been here, and been here, but he hasn’t yet done his tub-thumping Thumper rant about Republican nazis, Republican Bolsheviks, or chimpfaced Republicans.
All those foregone hours and foregone opportunities to practice the weird alchemy of turning electrons into shit, Roger’s usual occupation and preoccupation.
Maybe, alas, it’s true that Roger’s … sick. Maybe he’s too toxic in Detox to get into the game. Maybe it’s all the bad news. While Roger was having a sticky subliminal orgasm about yesterday’s down Dow, we heard this:
* Real GDP up, strong, and steady at 3.9%;
* Unemployment low and steady; 166,000 new jobs created;
* No recession, dammit. (Yet.)
Anyway, send flowers c/o Goldstein. Send $ c/o me. And tell Geov to eat his own damn state.
