The indictment seeks to strip Manafort of pretty much every asset held here in the U.S. including the homes his children live in. That’s entirely appropriate since it also appears that all of these assets were acquired with illegal funds and were deeply involved in Manafort and Gates money laundering and tax fraud scheme. But it also indicates that prosecutors are hoping to pressure Manafort and/or Gates into cooperation.
Manafort/Gates may not be the only point of investigation into Russian treason in the campaign. But if it is, and Manafort and Gates refuse to cooperate, it could end with them. Time will tell. And more results of the investigation will continue to be unsealed this week.
