Well, the Womxns March in Seattle was a grand success. Great crowds, amazing energy. You can see some great pictures at the link above or the hashtag on Twitter.
I will note 2 things: First off, it was pretty white. You can “Imeanit’sSeattle” it if you want. And it was certainly more diverse than a lot of protests and marches I’ve been to. But it is worth noting.
The other thing, I was thinking was that the only 2 other protests I’ve seen of a similar magnitude were WTO and the Anti-Iraq war ones. While they were both important, and probably had many positive long-term reverberations, they didn’t succeed in their initial goals. I hope that’s a note of let’s keep working rather than of despair.

As much as I loathe Trump, and for being the “accidental” president that he is, it was no “freak accident” that he was elected. It was highly improbably by all accounts, but even the pre-election analysis by the Professor indicated that there was a chance of Trump being elected (albeit a small chance). I know, there are lies, damn lies, and then statistics…
Trump is an idiot, but there where any number of choices that Hillary could have made earlier in the trajectory to the election that would have probably have had a end result that had her winning the election. Two that I can think of are 1) not having an private email server, and 2) calling people “deplorables”. Just ask Mitt how calling some of the electorate a derogatory name affected his election results. Apparently Clinton didn’t learn from Mitt’s mistake.
The private server and name calling gave the rabid-right a dog-bone to chew. Sure, they would have found something to complain about but the email and the name-calling were rallying cries for the Trumpanistias, it gave them something focus on instead of an uncoordinated attack, they had a focal point(s).
What the Democratic party needs to do is have a honest look a the root cause of what they could have control over. Their lack of strategic decision making aided in improving the odds such that we have the results we do today. As much as it pains me to say this, Trump didn’t as much win the election as Hillary lost it.
Now we are stuck with four years of the rape and pillage of our country at the hands of millionaires and billionaires.
