A surprisingly good unexpected joy in Seattle comes when you pick up a Lime Bike off the ground. Strangers will thank you. When there are several bikes, other people will often help. It’s great. There are a few seconds of community and then back to whatever we were doing. I know, it’s free labor for a private company, but still, can’t beat it.

Good McCain bio here. An excerpt:
“In an address last October at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, McCain said that it was wrong to ‘fear the world we have organized and led for three quarters of a century, to abandon the ideals we have advanced around the globe, to refuse the obligations of international leadership, and our duty to remain the last, best hope of Earth.’ He said it was wrong to abandon those principles ‘for the sake of some half-baked, spurious nationalism cooked up by people who would rather find scapegoats than solve problems.’ To do so was ‘as unpatriotic as an attachment to any other tired dogma of the past that Americans consigned to the ash heap of history,’ McCain continued.”
https://www.military.com/daily-news/2018/05/27/final-reckoning-memorial-day-and-legacy-john-mccain.html?ESRC=army_180529.nl
Roger Rabbit Commentary: In 2008 Obama, not McCain, was the right choice to lead America out of an economic crisis that easily could have turned into a Great Depression 2.0. (McCain, by his own admission, wasn’t interested in, and didn’t know much about, economics.) But McCain has rendered salutary service as the sole conscience of a corrupt and heartless political party that has no conscience, has lost its way, and is now dancing to the pied piper screeching of a racist demagogue. McCain, for all his failings, which he’s big enough to admit to, is a giant compared to the louse in the White House. Unfortunately, it looks like the lottery of life is going to take the smart and decent man, and leave us stuck with the unintelligent louse.

@4 Revel in your narrow procedural victory. No doubt it’s a big deal for you that the Colorado Civil Rights Commission will have to be less biased next time. As for a broad-brush ruling that businesses have a constitutional right to discriminate against gay people because of their religious beliefs, you and your ilk didn’t get that. The vote should have tipped you off; no liberal justice would vote to uphold homophobic discrimination. How did you miss that? This is the same* court that just three years ago ruled gay marriage is a constitutional right.

@4 Revel in your narrow procedural victory.
It is a narrow procedural victory. Why did I compare it to Bush v. Gore? Because that 7-2 decision was equally narrow:
“Our consideration is limited to the present circumstances…” was part of that decision. Kennedy’s opinion in the CO cake case was similarly narrow in its focus.
In each case a lower arbitrating entity acted horribly, and SCOTUS ended up, with substantial majority, pointing it out in no uncertain terms.
There is a lesson from these cases, Roger Dumbfuck Rabbit, and that lesson is that ultimately, people who conduct themselves like assholes, such as yourself and ‘froggy, ultimately will be held to account and publicly smacked down for the assholes they are. The assholes that you and ‘froggy are. Assholes like you two are then left wondering what the fuck happened and why they lost yet again. And in ‘froggy’s case, wondering why he lost yet another job.
And that’s enough. I’ll take it.
Roger Rabbit spews:
This hardly looks like a smashing victory for homophobes:
“Our society has come to the recognition that gay persons
and gay couples cannot be treated as social outcasts or as
inferior in dignity and worth. For that reason the laws
and the Constitution can, and in some instances must,
protect them in the exercise of their civil rights. The
exercise of their freedom on terms equal to others must be
given great weight and respect by the courts. At the same
time, the religious and philosophical objections to gay
marriage are protected views and in some instances protected
forms of expression. As this Court observed in
Obergefell v. Hodges, 576 U. S. ___ (2015), ‘[t]he First
Amendment ensures that religious organizations and
persons are given proper protection as they seek to teach
the principles that are so fulfilling and so central to their
lives and faiths.’ Id., at ___ (slip op., at 27). Nevertheless,
while those religious and philosophical objections are
protected, it is a general rule that such objections do not
allow business owners and other actors in the economy
and in society to deny protected persons equal access to
goods and services under a neutral and generally applicable
public accommodations law. …
“When it comes to weddings, it can be assumed that a
member of the clergy who objects to gay marriage on
moral and religious grounds could not be compelled to
perform the ceremony without denial of his or her right to
the free exercise of religion. This refusal would be well
understood in our constitutional order as an exercise of
religion, an exercise that gay persons could recognize and
accept without serious diminishment to their own dignity
and worth. Yet if that exception were not confined, then a
long list of persons who provide goods and services for
marriages and weddings might refuse to do so for gay
persons, thus resulting in a community-wide stigma inconsistent with the history and dynamics of civil rights
laws that ensure equal access to goods, services, and
public accommodations.
“It is unexceptional that Colorado law can protect gay
persons, just as it can protect other classes of individuals,
in acquiring whatever products and services they choose
on the same terms and conditions as are offered to other
members of the public. And there are no doubt innumerable
goods and services that no one could argue implicate
the First Amendment. Petitioners conceded, moreover,
that if a baker refused to sell any goods or any cakes for
gay weddings, that would be a different matter and the
State would have a strong case under this Court’s precedents
that this would be a denial of goods and services
that went beyond any protected rights of a baker who
offers goods and services to the general public and is
subject to a neutrally applied and generally applicable
public accommodations law.”
