Missouri Firearms Bill Would Make Guns As Difficult to Access As Abortions http://www.stlmag.com/news/pol.....on-newman/
House Bill 1397 says that before Missourians could buy a gun, they’d have to:
– Meet with a licensed physician to discuss the risks of gun ownership at least 72 hours before attempting to buy a gun and obtain a written notice approval.
– Buy the gun from a licensed gun dealer located at least 120 miles from the purchaser’s legal residence.
– Review the medical risks associated with firearms, including photographs of fatal firearm injuries, and the alternatives to purchasing a firearm, including “materials about peaceful and nonviolent conflict resolution,” with the gun dealer orally and in writing.
– Tour an emergency trauma center at the nearest qualified urban hospital on a weekend between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., when gun violence victims are present, and get written verification from a doctor.
– Meet with at least two families who have been victims of gun violence and two local faith leaders who have officiated, within the last year, a funeral for a victim of gun violence who was under the age of 18.
I think it’s a great idea!

Bombshell: Bush & Cheney Freed ISIS Leader Because He Was “Harmless”
Bush & Cheney didn’t do it. A US military commission made that determination.
The word ‘harmless’ was introduced (follow the links) by a Der Spiegel interviewer.
13
Sloppy Travis Bicklespews:
@ 11
Doubtful they were modified to ‘auto’, and the carnage occurred at a soft site.
Consider this:
– I read they fired about 75 rounds at the killing site. Two rifles, no resistance. That’s really not a lot.
– I read they fired about the same while being chased. Again, since the chase went on a few minutes, not a lot.
– Using a single pistol, Maj. Hasan killed 13 and wounded 30+ at Fort Hood.
So two people with rifles shot fewer people in a location with zero resistance than did a single guy with a pistol who was taking return fire at a military site.
You’re an idiot, RR.
14
Roger Rabbitspews:
Is an AR-15 an assault rifle because it can be modified to fire full-auto like a military weapon (and is it not an assault rifle unless so modified), or because of the injuries it inflicts (in which case, it should be considered an assault rifle whether or not so modified)?
The AR-15 fires a high-velocity bullet that tumbles when it hits the body, shredding tissue and inflicting massive damage on internal organs. To ER personnel, it makes no difference whether the weapon is fired full-auto or with rapid trigger pulls.
“As assault rifles have replaced handguns as the weapon of choice in gang, street and mass shootings, the injuries and treatment needs have changed.”
Here’s a doctor trained as a field medic talking:
“‘So, we are now going to this assault rifle injury-type pattern which rips and shreds apart organs in your body, tissues in the body, vessels as they’re going through,’ Neeki explained. ‘So you have to be ready to put in a tourniquet to avoid the bleeding, or quickly staple a wound in the field. Or use an Israeli bandage, which is a compression dressing. I also have a clotting factor you could put in a lesion.’
“If this sounds like battlefield medicine, that’s because it is. Neeki said much of what doctors know today about treating assault rifle wounds has come from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. And because wounds like these shorten survival time for victims, it also means physicians need to be on the scene immediately, just like medics in foreign combat zones.”
By the way, this Dr. Neeki, who was the first emergency responder to arrive at the scene of the San Bernardino shooting — he got there even ahead of the cops — knows what battlefield wounds look like. A native of Iran, he was drafted to serve in the Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s, a ghastly conflict that replicated the trench warfare of the First World War.
I would argue that an assault rifle should be classified as such because of what it can do, not based on what it looks like, or whether it has a full-auto mechanism.
15
Roger Rabbitspews:
@13 Asking a question makes me an idiot? No, an idiot is someone who presumes to know the answers to questions even before the questions are asked.
The San Bernardino shooters may well have killed 14 and injured 21 with only 75 bullets. That goes contrary to military experience; in Vietnam, the U.S. military expended upwards of 50,000 rounds of small arms ammo for every enemy casualty, depending on who you believe. Any way you slice it, it was a lot. I was there, so I can confirm there was a tremendous amount of shooting — small arms, machineguns, artillery, and bombs.
San Bernadino wasn’t a military engagement, but try to place yourself there in your mind for a moment. The instant the attackers burst into the room and begin firing, the victims will be diving for cover and heading for exits. Most will not stand still waiting to get shot. How plausible is it that even expert shooters can take down 35 moving targets with 75 rounds in an auditorium-sized room?
I’m curious where you got the 75-round figure from. The news? I’m under the impression you and your buddy Puddy don’t believe the media. Or maybe you do when it serves some rhetorical purpose of yours.
Here’s another question: If the San Bernardino shooters were capable of taking out 35 victims with 75 shots, why were they carrying multiple magazines each, and why did they have 1,600 rounds of ammo in their SUV, and thousands of rounds more in their home? Why did they need — and have — all that ammo if they’re as good marksmen as you claim?

CA sought to reduce carnage by prohibiting rapid mag loading. From a practical perspective this resulted in a regulation requiring the use of a tool to swap mags. Industry responded with “the bullet button” a recessed button that can be depressed with a bullet, deemed to be a tool. Disabling “the bullet button” takes a few minutes and no tools.

@19 Your argument is with CBS News, not with me. I merely quoted the news story. Unless you work in a trauma center, or your job (or hobby, or whatever) involves reviewing statistics of gunshot injuries, he probably knows more about this than you do.
Meanwhile, perhaps you can enlighten us as to how many of the San Bernardino casualties were inflicted with rifles, and how many with handguns? According to news reports, the attackers were armed with both types of weapons.

Roger Rabbitspews:
I suspect we’re going to find these attackers weren’t ISIS or Al Qaeda trained terrorists, or even a sleeper cell, but just self-made terrorists who were perhaps inspired by those organizations and got most of their information online. There appears to have been some communication via internet (and perhaps by other means as well) with some like-minded individuals, and at this point, we can’t rule out that they were in touch with actual representatives of a terrorist group. But if they were just ISIS sympathizers who concocted their own terror attack, it would be damned difficult for authorities to catch them before the act, because nobody but themselves would know what they were planning.
This morning’s news reports raise another interesting possibility: That the woman was a trained terrorist, and when the guy revealed himself online as a sympathizer, she was dispatched to make contact with him, had orders to marry him, radicalize him, and train him, and thus an ISIS sleeper cell was born in California.
How many more similar cells are out there? And if this is how ISIS intends to strike at the USA, can these attacks be stopped by any means short of taking the fight to ISIS and completely defeating it?

This happened only 2 days ago, the official investigation is still in its infancy, and there’s a lot of speculation right now as various people try to figure this out. The TPM opinion could almost be describing the Carnation mass shooting of a few years ago, if you change a few details — that was a family dispute, not radicalized or ideological shooters — but there you’ve got a female supposedly dominating a male and putting him up to the deed, with her participating in shooting a couple of the six victims. In the San Bernardino case, the scenario sketched by the TPM writer seems plausible, although we don’t know yet whether that’s what happened.

How Terrorist Sympathizers Exploit America’s Gun LawsBY IGOR VOLSKY DEC 4, 2015 11:10 AM
Federal investigators now believe that at least one of the perpetrators behind the San Bernardino attack may have pledged allegiance to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. According to three law enforcement officials who spoke to CNN, female attacker Tashfeen Malik touted her support for the terrorist organization on Facebook after initiating the Wednesday attack, which left 14 people dead and 21 wounded.
The news comes just hours after lawmakers defeated an amendment, introduced by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), that would have required suspected terrorists seeking a gun to undergo a background check.
Rot in hell, ‘Bob”
47
Roger Rabbitspews:
@38 There’s conflicting information about this. Some sources say the reporters barged in and disrupted a crime scene. Other sources say the FBI had already cleaned out the useful evidence and cleared the site for media tours. Some sources say the landlord let the reporters in, other sources say he didn’t. Let’s wait with our judgments until this gets sorted out.
From a legal standpoint, the landlord doesn’t have a right to let the media into the suspects’ apartment. Even though he owns the property, the right to present possession belongs exclusively to the (now deceased) renters. Law enforcement has a right to enter because they have a search warrant. I can’t visualize under what rationale the media, neighbors, members of the public, or anyone other than law enforcement could enter the premises without violating the legal rights of the suspects’ estate, which is the legal entity now in possession of whatever property rights the deceased suspects have under the law. So I don’t see how the reporters who walked in there, whether they had the landlord’s permission or not, come out of this looking anything but bad and maybe open to a privacy invasion lawsuit by the suspects’ legal representatives. But let’s withhold judgment for now, and wait and see how this plays out.

Investigators think that as the San Bernardino, California, massacre was happening, female shooter Tashfeen Malik posted a pledge of allegiance to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi on Facebook, three U.S. officials familiar with the investigation told CNN.
Tashfeen Malik pledged allegiance to the leader of ISIS just before she and her husband carried out the San Bernardino massacre, law enforcement sources told NBC News.
Malik posted a statement of support for Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi on Facebook “just before the attack,” one official familiar with the issue said. Facebook said it pulled the post down after the shooting, CNBC confirmed.
See, when people are worried about being shot at, they want to shoot back. Not be disarmed by overlords claiming that it’s a climate issue and not a threat to life and liberty.
Ohio is on track this year to surpass the number of concealed carry licenses issued in 2014. The spike comes as the FBI reported that Black Friday had the highest number of applications nationwide for background checks on people wanting to buy firearms.
On Nov. 27, more than 185,000 background checks — the most reliable barometer for gun sales — were sought, FBI records show. That’s the highest day for gun sales since Dec. 21, 2012, following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings, when more than 25 were killed in Newtown, Conn.
Background checks — which do not represent the number of firearms sold — spiked last month in Ohio to nearly 82,000. Area counties have for years seen heightened interest in people obtaining permits to carry concealed weapons as well.

@58 “access by law-abiding citizens to various means of defense”
In the eyes of the law, for gun ownership purposes, that’s exactly what the Colorado Springs and San Bernardino shooters were until they committed their mass murders. Same with the Sandy Hook shooter, same with the Columbine shooters, same with most of these events.
These mass shootings are not, generally speaking, being committed by convicted felons who aren’t allowed to possess guns (but have no difficulty getting them anyway). They’re being committed by people legally entitled to have guns under our existing laws. And extending those same rights to the law-abiding citizenry so far has been totally ineffective in preventing these events, i.e. your self-defense theorem isn’t working. (I just noticed that LucasFoxx beat me to it in making this point @60 above.)
The United States is unique in the world for its level of gun violence. Japan averages somewhere around 2 to 10 gun murders per year. We have thousands of gun homicides and hundreds of accidental gun deaths every year. We have toddlers shooting each other because some adult left a loaded gun in a glove box or laying on a table. We have more guns per capita than any country in the world; our closest competitor is civil-war-torn Yemen. Doesn’t it strike you even a little bit that maybe it’s our system that’s out of sync? It’s pretty damned obvious that America’s gun fetish makes Americans less safe, not more safe. Missouri Firearms Bill Would Make Guns As Difficult to Access As Abortions

Bush & Cheney didn’t do it. A US military commission made that determination.
The word ‘harmless’ was introduced (follow the links) by a Der Spiegel interviewer.
Sloppy Travis Bickle spews:
Roger Rabbit spews:
And because wounds like these shorten survival time for victims, it also means physicians need to be on the scene immediately, just like medics in foreign combat zones.”
http://horsesass.org/open/#comment-1303179
By the way, this Dr. Neeki, who was the first emergency responder to arrive at the scene of the San Bernardino shooting — he got there even ahead of the cops — knows what battlefield wounds look like. A native of Iran, he was drafted to serve in the Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s, a ghastly conflict that replicated the trench warfare of the First World War.
I would argue that an assault rifle should be classified as such because of what it can do, not based on what it looks like, or whether it has a full-auto mechanism.
Roger Rabbit spews:

Unless you work in a trauma center, or your job (or hobby, or whatever) involves reviewing statistics of gunshot injuries, he probably knows more about this than you do.

Distant Replay spews:
@17,
For under $100 they could have mail ordered a slide stock modification for those rifles.
Roger Rabbit spews:

The TPM opinion could almost be describing the Carnation mass shooting of a few years ago, if you change a few details — that was a family dispute, not radicalized or ideological shooters — but there you’ve got a female supposedly dominating a male and putting him up to the deed, with her participating in shooting a couple of the six victims.

Puddybud, the HA DUMMOCRETIN disinfectant! spews:
2014?
Did you check to see if anyone denounced this moronic twit @8? Or are you just wanting to see your silly ASS in pixels?

Is an AR-15 an assault rifle because it can be modified to fire full-auto like a military weapon (and is it not an assault rifle unless so modified), or because of the injuries it inflicts (in which case, it should be considered an assault rifle whether or not so modified)?
An assault rifle has to have multiple firing modes. goatse boy ekim still doesn’t understand that!
Puddybud, the HA DUMMOCRETIN disinfectant! spews:
Oh rujaxoffallthetimestillprovingnuthinappears @46… These two were not on any terror list.

clueless crazed databaze cretin @50,
You shot your “wad” to early. Certain information on certain sites described what the FBI has finally admitted vs. secretly admitting to CREDIBLE news sites.
Sux to be you!

@68 Obama is supposed to know everything that everyone in this country is doing every minute of every day? Even Stalin didn’t achieve that. You’d be dangerous if you had any brains.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@72 Not according to the dictionary: “a gun that can shoot many bullets quickly and that is designed for use by the military”

I can’t think of any reason why such a firearm necessarily must have “multiple firing modes.” Which of the holes in your ass did you pull that out of?
Teabagged spews:
We don’t have to worry about ISIS, we have The GOP.

If only he could “speak American”, folks here might actually have a clue WTF our batshit crazy psycho-terrorist loon is babbling about. Heh. But he can’t, so we just laugh at him and make rude jokes at his expense.
Roger Rabbit spews:
I don’t see much difference between a Bible-thumping terrorist shooting innocent people with an AR-15 (Colorado Springs) and a Quran-thumping terrorist shooting innocent people with an AR-15 (San Bernardino). Part of the problem — not the whole problem, but part of it — is that people like that can get AR-15s. If you want to fool around with assault rifles join the Marines, Army, Marine or Army Reserve, or National Guard.

Carson continues to nose-dive in the polls, now 13.5 behind Trump in the RCP national average. Latest CNN poll has Carson 22 points behind Trump.

@51 What, AGAIN???
Roger Rabbit spews:
@82 Carson and Cruz together, who are splitting the evangelical vote, poll about even with Trump. Rubio is far behind, and the others are window dressing.
So I guess it’s the Trump bloc vs. the Carson-Cruz bloc, with Rubio getting the crumbs. Looks like the GOP race boils down to secular bigots vs. religious bigots, pick your poison.

The Sunday talk shows should be pretty interesting this weekend. Lots of helpful information coming out of Pakistan right now about JihadiMomma’s past.
Ekim spews:
BOOB @58
Perhaps so. But while our side is understandably concerned about the increasing possibility that the US may have just been attacked on our own homeland…
Which incident are you referring to?
Counting this year alone there were 352 mass shooting incidents prior to San Bernardino totaling around 450 dead and 1300 wounded. And there have been a couple more mass shooting incidents since.
Ekim spews:
LOON @72
An assault rifle has to have multiple firing modes. goatse boy ekim still doesn’t understand that!
OK LOON. You win. The on site ATF agent is wrong calling the AR-15s in question assault riffles. What does he know. He only has his extensive training to fall back on and you have the Google.

I pick Trump because he is in it for the bucks. Also he wants to build that big wall along the border. Contract has got to be worth billions. I wanna buy stock in what ever company gets the contract.

And interesting stuff coming out about the Saudi connection too. (Before you ask LOON, Google it.)
Ekim spews:
Is the AR-15 an assault riffle?
Or is the AR-15 an assault weapon?
Who the fuck cares?
The AR-15 has become the weapon of choice for mass murders.
BOOB and the LOON are just fine with that.
(Just pray for the dead as the bodies pile and it is all good.)
Roger Rabbit spews:
Well, if guns are banned, I guess it’s back to bows and arrows.
