    President Obama does both. Each president sets their own schedule for oral briefings and no two have been the same. In other words, one can’t skip an unscheduled meeting.

    Trump appears to not want oral briefings from our nation’s intelligence community as did all previous presidents and so he apparently doesn’t schedule any. Rather, the report is that he goes to other sources. The question is, if so, who are they?

    I would say it’s harder to get up to speed on national security intelligence, which Trump needs to do, than it is to stay up to speed, as Obama has been doing.
