prr @1,
The only thing Rons Sims ever gave me was a hug. But then, he seems to hug everybody. He’s a huggy guy.
And I must say, I find your mock outrage amusing. All I did was report the story that Irons’ own parents wanted to tell, and according to his mother, I told it accurately.
Is it a negative story? Sure. Did I time its release to cause maximum damage? Yeah… but then, I didn’t have the story two weeks ago.
And finally, for Republicans to accuse Democrats of being scummy is downright comical. This from the party of Karl Rove… the party that swiftboated John Kerry, that branded as unpatriotic a man like Max Clelland, who left his limbs in Viet Nam… the party that spread vicious, racist lies about John McCain during the 2000 primaries. A party that leaks the identity of a CIA operative, as political payback.
And what about Irons himself? He orchestrated a leak the night before absentees dropped in the mail, that there had been an FBI investigation of his opponent… an investigation that had been closed with no indictment and no report. This is a man who eyewitnesses saw personally stealing his opponents yard signs.
What you can’t stand about me is that I’m not one of those pussy progressives who quietly stands on my princples and policies, while the other side bashes our heads in. I dish back.
As I closed my piece on Irons, “what goes around, comes around.” Irons got what he deserved.

All Goldy did was report what Iron’s mother told him. If his sister’s version is to be believed, one would have to ask why medical assistance was not called. If my mother had some seizure and hit the floor, I sure would have been on the phone with 911. That alone would be horrible judgement on Irons part.
Furthermore Goldy was honest in his political motives and timing. Goldy does not exactly hide the fact that he is a LIBERAL. The only thing I disagree with Goldy on is that I think it would have had a greater negative voter impact on Iron’s if it had been told earlier.

I am not a diabetic althought it seems reasonable that most siezures are handled with medicine or sugar ingestion. I do not think there are enough paramedics in WA to respond to those types of calls.
On the other hand, if an assault took place why were the police not called? The phone was ripped out of the wall? How about later in the day at another phone? How about the next day, the next week?
Sounds more like sour apples on both sides. Based on what is being said on both sides it looks more likely that Goldy will swing voters towards Irons. Poetic justice for a tabloid.

I find it interesting that KVI is being warned that they maybe hitting their limit on what they can say about I-912, but this blog continues to be non-stop campaigning for Sims. You can’t claim that you aren’t attached to the Sims campaign and receive no funds. The judge declared that irrelevant, as did you, in the case of KVI.
For the record, the story on Irons was pure slime. Asking his mother about a controversial situation, and making absolutely no effort to get any other side of the story, is not reporting. Why didn’t MSM publish it? They couldn’t verify it. Too bad your standards are so much lower.

The same could be said for your side. Goldy sure seems (or at least seemed) to waste a lot of digital ink on tearing down Sharkansky. You guys still avoid any questions about the improprieties at King County by saying they’re irrelevant. Anything bad that happened at King County was under Ron Sims’ watch. Why doesn’t the buck stop there?
As for defending Irons… I don’t know the guy. If you read my posts, you’ll see that I’m only asking questions of Goldy. If he wants to play Edward R. Murrow Geraldo Rivera for a day, he writings should be up to journalistic standards.

1. There IS a difference between an editor deciding that the controversy is news vs. whether the actual allegations are newsworthy or supported by sufficient evidence (in which case, they would have pursued the story on their own).
2. FORMER “journo,” thankyouverymuch. And I got out of it because the pay isn’t the best and I didn’t have an ax to grind to make up for the difference in income.

Why not stop down at the local fire department and ask them what the hell they would recommend if a person was on the floor with a siezure!
My guess is that his mother is probably telling the truth. The right wing has such great ways to always blame the victims. This joker ought to team up with OLE Brownie for truly compassion-less incompetance!

Felix Ferminspews:
Fair enough, Mark … I would argue that folks on my side HAVE addressed Sims’ shortcomings. No one likes the mistakes in the elections office, but the judge in Wenatchee found them to have no relevance to the outcome of last year’s election. Furthermore, there are mountains of evidence pointing out that the problems in KC Elections are not unique at all – in fact they are very typical – so perhaps you can see why folks like me think the continuing complaints are grandstanding and beating a dead horse.
This is not to say folks like me don’t want problems fixed – I am all in favor – but I smell an alterior motive in all this whining.
Sims has done quite an excellent job managing KC overall, as the big money managers back east have determined. Plus, he isn’t aligned with the folks who’d pave over Puget Sound if they could make a buck.

1. ESM, scene survey. Make area safe, clear away hard or sharp objects.
2. During convulsions:
• Don’t restrict the casualty’s movements rather guide them to protect them from injury.
• Loosen tight clothing
• Place something soft under the head
• Do not try to put anything in the mouth
3. After convulsions
• Assess responsiveness and do a primary survey. Recovery position of they are unconscious, wipe away any fluids
• Secondary survey and give first aid for any injuries
• Continue to give care, warm, resting time
• Do not give casualty any liquids
• Get medical help if needed – use judgment and casualty’s discretion”

First aid for Diabetic emergency
1. ESM, scene survey, if casualty is unresponsive get medial help asap.
2. Primary survey and give first aid for the ABC’s
3. If unconscious, place them into the recovery position and monitor the ABC’s until help arrives. If they are conscious ask what is wrong. They may be able to tell you. If they can tell you help them do or take what is needed and if they are confused give them something to eat or drink in a small quantity, i.e. apple juice, candy, etc. Be careful about giving someone orange juice unless it is pulp free or candy that has peanuts in it as some individuals are allergic to pulp or peanuts.
4. Continue to give care until help arrives.
And they’re not the only ones to think so:
Severe signs and symptoms, such as unconsciousness or seizures, are a medical emergency. Call 911 for an ambulance immediately.
– Bystanders should not attempt to drive the person to the hospital by car because this may seriously delay proper care, which emergency medical personnel in the ambulance can provide.
– Signs and symptoms that continue despite eating are another indication for seeking emergency care at a hospital.

Hello.
I had to come one and say this. Goldy, you did NOT help Sims when you went on the Dori Monson show. I found it sad you were able to give straight concise answers on everything….except for one question. The way you hemmed and hawwed when Dori asked you point blank if you told the Sims campaign about this before you published your blog, and then gave a ‘sorta-answer’ to try and defuse it. The way you reacted to that answer made you come across as one of SIms lackeys, playing dirty so he doesn’t have to. Face it, Goldy, you got played by that interview. I just hope Sims will still love you after your mistake.
Domo.

For the Cluelessspews:
Hmmm. The apologists are lining up. Could never imagine that one of their own could be capable of such a thing.
1) Irons probably did do the deed. The victim according to her own account fled and hid from the perp. Phone torn off the wall precluded calling for help.
2) After fleeing the scene and thinking a bit, the victim made sure to avoid being alone with the perp. Bringing it out into the open at first meant embarrassment to the family. The perp was after all the victim’s son. He might be remorseful and willing to “change his ways”. Ill thought-out excuses like a “diabetic” episode is consistent with a desire to keep the embarrassing event “under wraps” or protect other members of the family from the fallout of a harsh truth.
3) The last straw was the perp turning viciously on a family friend and hitching his political star to a crowd antagonistic to the family’s values.
The pattern is clear. A volatile temperament together with resume inflation and other factors disqualify David Irons, Jr. from serving as King County Executive.

Ummm … this is one of the most idiotic arguments I have seen around here.
Unreported domestic violence is exceedingly difficult to study for obvious reasons (it goes unreported). An estimate by the FBI is that only 1 in 10 sexual assualts is reported.
The prevalence of reporting in domestic violence unlikely to be higher than this figure, and probably much lower.
Man, you troll assholes will make up any sorry excuse for your boy with the anger management problem!

For the Cluelessspews:
Dori Monson aka “Dorky Moron” has employed his well-worn tactic of attacking the messenger.
The message is clear: David Irons Jr. is unfit for office and would be a disaster for King County.
Ron Simms has demonstrated his fitness by leading King County through difficult economic times. King County has a AAA credit rating attesting to Simms’ effectiveness.
The Republicans must do much better than David Irons Jr.
46
djspews:
FTC @ 35
“The pattern is clear. A volatile temperament together with resume inflation and other factors disqualify David Irons, Jr. from serving as King County Executive. “
Indeed. There are two big issues that are at play here.
1. Does David Jr. have problems with “honesty.” Prior to Goldy’s piece, David Sr. has publically questioned Jr.’s honesty. Other pieces of evidence like the exagerations on his resume, statements questioning his veracity by acquaintances, possibly the police-report incident (although that may genuinely be a misunderstanding among family members), and witnesses to him taking signs, all point to a general pattern of a person who has (or had) issues with honesty. It seems unlikely that ALL of these are false.
2. Is David Jr. abusive to those subordinate or weaker than him? Based on his mother’s claims and statements of being abusive and explosive by former peers or staff, it seems that David Jr. may have (or at one time had) an anger problem that makes it difficult for him to manage power-relationships. Again, there are many cooroborating reports here.
If either of these are true, I think you are correct, and David Jr. would not be qualified to be King County executive.

Many, many more cases of domestic abuse go unreported than reported. It crosses all lines, political, racial, social, and economical. No one is immune or prone to it.

I don’t think we know the whole story. Irons doesn’t just leap out of the frying pan in 1994. Something was either festering or there was a pre-existing dynamic. If you steal someone’s girlfriend in January and they punch you in the nose in March, you can’t start the story in March and say you’ve got the whole picture.
Having personally known a couple of people from homes with child abuse, it sure sounds awfully familiar. Adult (dad, mom, uncle?) hurts kid, kid tries to tell, kid isn’t believed by all (or others in denial), family polarizes over issue, part of family becomes very angry over allegations and blame for family problems shifted onto kid.
73

74
djspews:
yearight @ 73
I see…you just didn’t understand the point I was making. I’ll try to explain it here.
Only about 10% of sexual assualts are reported. I am suggesting that the prevalence of reporting in DOMESTIC VIOLENCE cases is probably somewhat lower.
Many sexual assualts can have consequences like pregnancy, HIV, or other STD transmission. Furthermore, some sexual assualts do not involve family members and friends. Both factors would increase the prevalence of reporting sexual assault versus domestic violence. Therefore, I am pretty confident in inferring withoug direct evidence that sexual assaults probably have a somewhat higher prevalence of being reported than cases of domestic violence.
In other words, when David Jr. assaulted his mother (as she claims) the a priori chance of the assault being reported was probably under 10%.
There are probably statistics on the prevalence of reporting domentic voilence somewhere, but after a brief search I came up empty handed.
That was my point. Cries that if Irons had assaulted his mother she would have reported it are preposterous.
Many sexual assualts can have consequences like pregnancy, HIV, or other STD transmission. Furthermore, some sexual assualts do not involve family members and friends.

Goldy spews:

So when Ron suddenly starts bullying people to give you a column, radio show, etc… or offering you a consulting gig, your gonna turn them down, right?

I am not a diabetic althought it seems reasonable that most siezures are handled with medicine or sugar ingestion. I do not think there are enough paramedics in WA to respond to those types of calls.
On the other hand, if an assault took place why were the police not called? The phone was ripped out of the wall? How about later in the day at another phone? How about the next day, the next week?
Sounds more like sour apples on both sides. Based on what is being said on both sides it looks more likely that Goldy will swing voters towards Irons. Poetic justice for a tabloid.

Why not stop down at the local fire department and ask them what the hell they would recommend if a person was on the floor with a siezure!

Try this:
http://www.cpr-pro.com/fa_medical_conditions.html
“First aid for a seizure or convulsion
Note the last line.
As mom is still alive then it appears the correct treatment was administered.

Unreported domestic violence is exceedingly difficult to study for obvious reasons (it goes unreported). An estimate by the FBI is that only 1 in 10 sexual assualts is reported.

dj spews:

Adult (dad, mom, uncle?) hurts kid, kid tries to tell, kid isn’t believed by all (or others in denial), family polarizes over issue, part of family becomes very angry over allegations and blame for family problems shifted onto kid.

dj spews:
yearight @ 73

Naaaaa … I was talking ’bout your buddy West.
Get tested, dude!

My fault.. it is just when you said “some sexual assualts do not involve family members and friends” you were referring to the former rapist and chief. You donks have to be more specific when you talk about sexual assualts.

Someone raping family and friends, RUFUS? Sounds like you must be refering to Lou Beres (former Multnomah County GOP chair, and executive director of the Christian Coalition of Oregon).
“You donks have to be more specific when you talk about sexual assualts.”
Donks? Wouldn’t I have to be a Democrat to qualify for that title?
