Digby points to a horrible thing Ann Coulter said to show that the GOP’s problem with their hatred of the other.
The Republicans have a problem all right, but it isn’t racial demographics. It’s Ann Coulter and all the people who think like her. And I don’t know what they’re going to do about that.
Right. But it isn’t just the cultural elite of the Republican party. It’s the fact that the Coulters, and the Limbaughs and on and on have an audience of people who want to hear the sort of things they’re saying. If they were just shouting into the wind, they wouldn’t have careers.
The Republicans can’t keep their base unless they regularly spout ugly crap.
Forgive me for not taking Ann Coulter at her word but is this even true:

I couldn’t find the relationship to Reagan (may peace be upon Him) data in Pew.
But found this:

I think it’s well established that Ann Coulter doesn’t believe the crapola she spouts and is only in it for the money. One of her closest friends and associates, David Brock, said this about her:
“Ann and I never had a serious conversation about politics, or anything else. Instead, we smoked, drank to excess – Ann seemed to live on nothing but Chardonnay and cigarettes – and vented our anger and cruelty by hurling all manner of epithets at liberals and the disadvantaged among us.”
I don’t remember anymore where I got this quote; I found it in my archives. It may even be something I wrote, although I doubt it, because I’m not this imaginative.
“Ann is nothing but a cheap media-whore hate peddler. She thinks it’s funny – yeah, in the same way that walking up to some burly guy and joking that you’re fucking his wife is funny. It’s a good thing for Coulter that she’s making enough money to live in security buildings for the rest of her life, because she’ll have to. And she needs to make it while she can because eventually she’ll fade like an old xerox copy in the sun. Like Chardonnay, she’s without. She’s in her forties now and can’t even get a date. I don’t think I would have written that sentence about space shuttles blowing up. It’s too insensitive. I even thought about deleting it before posting this quote. And the information about her reproductive functioning is, well, gross and in addition irrelevant to the point the writer is trying to make — or maybe it’s intended to illustrate how she makes her “points.” I don’t know. I thought about deleting that, too. I guess I left that stuff in because somebody else wrote this, so whoever did it is responsible. All I did was save it in my archives.
The Republicanists can’t win on the angry white vote alone anymore, but they also can’t reach out to other groups without losing that angry white vote.
The Reds richly deserve this dilemma for pandering to the knuckle-draggers for so long.
If the Democrats didn’t need decent opposition to keep them honest, I’d be completely happy about this.
