I’d hoped that attending would be cathartic for her. She might be able to open herself up to her grief and sorrow and to realize that she wasn’t alone in this. Afterwards, on the way back to work, I talked with her about how American leadership so often rises to the occasion and expressed my utmost confidence that the Bush administration, no matter their party affiliation, would be no different. We could count on them to come through. Lordy, how I was wrong. At least I had enough sense to buy Halliburton for $8 and change in August of 2002 when it became clear to me what the Bush administration was really up to.
Why did we invade Iraq? Our country invaded Iraq so that the Republicans could reverse historical trends and pick up seats in the 2002 fall elections as well as position Bush as a war president for 2004, not to mention enriching some well positioned corporations with ties to the administration. Hell of a reason to expend America’s blood and treasure, don’t you think? Thank God Republicans are out of power.
