Light a few candles and brew some herbal tea. Put on some smooth jazz, and just let the warmth of the blood of your enemies wash away all your cares and woes.

Average gas price in WA state is 39.7 cents higher than it was just 30 days ago.

What will that do to the producer price index reported for March? Consumer inflation trails producer inflation by about 3 months, so just before the DNC convention begins consumer inflation will be spiking. Again.

This was an NBC News headline yesterday (and today):

Behind the scenes, Biden has grown angry and anxious about re-election effort

Just think of the combination of anxiety and senility he’ll be dragging around come summertime.

Quinnipiac found that 37% of Haley voters intend to vote for Joe Biden in November. I have doubts:

    https://youtu.be/9Wx_5Zr0Lzw

Among “Double Doubters” (likely voters who express strong dissatisfaction with both candidates) Haley Republicans are probably the least persuadable. The giddy enthusiasm being spread about these voters is largely the result of a whole lot of hopium being wishcast by outspoken never-Trump pundits and spin-geezers like Bill Kristol, Steve Schmidt and Sarah Longwell. And while these folks may be experts at communication styles that reach the minds of dullard “conservative” voters, they all really seem to be missing the unnerving and deep rooted nihilism that now grips these voters.

They would rather die. And the expect to do so.

You watch those Haley fools in the same breath declare that Donald Trump would destroy democracy and that President Biden is “uninspiring”. And then under excrutiating fits of discomfort resign themselves to vote for Trump. They will come home to the rapist. They will especially come home once Haley succeeds in negotiating her endorsement of Trump.

I don’t think Biden is wasting his time trying to appeal directly to these Haley Republicans. I just think that there are better demographic groups available among the “Double Doubters”.

Lawrence Summers brings it. This is why:

We propose that borrowing costs, which have grown at rates they had not reached in decades, do much to explain this gap. The first ammendment applies to the government as well.

The government is free to state their opinion to whomever.

    As in,

    “Dear Mark Zuckerberg.

You should take action to reign in some of the truly insane shit that will, and is currently, getting people killed by violence or masquerading as medical advice.”

Fox News (And Newsmax, and Breitbart, and Morons like our troll)

Indiana Parents Warn Nation After Child is Removed from Home for Improper Pronoun Usage: ‘It can Happen Anywhere’

Parents ask Supreme Court to hold Indiana responsible for removing Transgender teen from home.

The nut-o sphere will probably go apeshit that SCOTUS let the lower court ruling of “Oh Hell NO” to these parents stand without taking the case.

The Docket is pretty solid on how the FACTS of the case don’t line up with Fox’s opinion other than the notion that it is right and proper and up to the parents to hurt a child, especially a TRANS child.

Mother and Child both stated that Child had been suffering from an eating disorder for the past year but had yet to be evaluated by a medical professional; the Parents had withdrawn Child from school, and DCS was unaware of the family’s intent to enroll Child in a new school for the upcoming school year; Child had been in therapy, but the Parents had discontinued it; Child did not feel mentally and/or emotionally safe in the home; Mother said things such as “[Child’s preferred name] is the bitch that killed my son”; and Child “would be more likely to have thoughts of self-harm and suicide if [Child] were to return to the family home due to mental and emotional abuse” Id. at 14-15. The PIR also indicated that mother stated that the family was planning to work with a doctor at a clinic for eating disorders, but Mother refused to sign any consents so that DCS could verify and medical concerns or past therapy services.

What that means is the Child had a high likelihood of permanent injury or death due to untreated eating disorder that the Devout Christian parents who hated the transgenderism of the Child were actively preventing from being treated by medical professionals.

They were content to starve a child and THAT’S why the child was removed. Then the family ran to the media with the lie of “we didn’t use the pronouns so they came after us.”

Waiting to see if any of the Justices pen a dissent saying, “It doesn’t matter if the person OWNS a website company or has ever been asked to make a gay wedding website the fact that it could happen in the future once they graduate from a coding program and start a business is enough to put the child back in the home so the parents can kill the child.

He’ll get out just in time to take a lead role in the home stretch of the campaign.

Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. on Monday refused to delay prison time for Peter Navarro, a former senior aide to President Donald Trump, as he appeals his conviction for refusing to testify before Congress about his involvement in efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

Navarro, a 74-year-old economist, is scheduled to report to federal prison in Miami before 2 p.m. Tuesday.

In a one-paragraph order, Roberts, who oversees emergency requests from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, said he saw no basis to disagree with an appeals court ruling last week that Navarro must serve time while his appeal is underway.

Just a reminder that taking place in a riot at the Capitol in an attempt to install the loser of an election will make you lose your job as an elected official.

The Supreme Court on Monday declined to take up an appeal by a former New Mexico county commissioner who was removed from office after he participated in the deadly Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

In September 2022, Cowboys for Trump founder Couy Griffin became the first elected official to be removed from office in connection to the Jan. 6 attack thanks to a provision in the 14th Amendment — the insurrection clause — which states that no person who holds any office “shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion” against the government.

A New Mexico state district court found that Griffin, then the Otero County commissioner, was disqualified from office under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which was created to prevent former Confederates from returning to power after the Civil War. The Supreme Court’s decision not to hear Griffin’s appeal solidifies that lower court’s opinion, and will keep him out of office.

Both his feet were blown off, but he continued toward the objective by “running on his knees,” and kept the German gunners pinned down with rifle fire while his platoon circled around and took out the nest. For his heroism and sacrifice, Herrera was awarded the Medal of Honor.

Later that month, Griffin spoke during a recorded commission meeting stating he was going to go back to D.C. with his firearms for the inauguration of Joe Biden.

Happy fourth anniversary of the day…

A clueless spew from someone who does not realize that many anniversaries of pronouncements by Fauci and by Randi Weingarten will follow.

What the Data Says About Pandemic School Closures, Four Years Later
The more time students spent in remote instruction, the further they fell behind. And, experts say, extended closures did little to stop the spread of Covid.

Such losses can be hard to overcome, without significant interventions. The most recent test scores, from spring 2023, show that students, overall, are not caught up from their pandemic losses, with larger gaps remaining among students that lost the most ground to begin with. Students in districts that were remote or hybrid the longest — at least 90 percent of the 2020-21 school year — still had almost double the ground to make up compared with students in districts that allowed students back for most of the year.
    …
A second factor associated with academic declines during the pandemic was a community’s poverty level. Comparing districts with similar remote learning policies, poorer districts had steeper losses.
    …
But the combination — poverty and remote learning — was particularly harmful. For each week spent remote, students in poor districts experienced steeper losses in math than peers in richer districts.

That is notable, because poor districts were also more likely to stay remote for longer.

Some of the country’s largest poor districts are in Democratic-leaning cities that took a more cautious approach to the virus. Poor areas, and Black and Hispanic communities, also suffered higher Covid death rates, making many families and teachers in those districts hesitant to return.

DeSantis opened up far sooner, and California locked down far longer.

Teachers unions absolutely devastated the students they are charged to protect. It’s why Weingarten is trying so hard to avoid responsibility for the outcome of her thuggery.

Pointing out that Randi Weingarten failed children isn’t a criticism of public schools. It’s a criticism of Randi Weingarten.

Randi Weingarten: Criticism of me is meant to ‘undermine’ public schools

The leader of one of the largest teachers’ unions in the U.S. says any criticism of her is an attempt to “undermine” public education.

Randi Weingarten, the president of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), made the claim during The Hill’s “Powerful Women Over 50” event Thursday. During the appearance, the union leader was asked how she copes with the “loud” and “very public” scrutiny she receives.

“If it was on the level, it would be different,” Weingarten responded. “But what we know about it is it is an intention to undermine the very institutions that help educate kids, protect democracy and pluralism in this country and help people have a better shot at the American dream.”

For two years she very publicly enabled teachers to abstain from doing their jobs. And then she claimed she did the opposite:

Weingarten has previously asserted she began calling for the reopening of public schools as early as April 2020. Last month, she became the subject of a Community Note on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, for reinforcing the claim.

Community Notes are X’s crowdsourced approach to fact-checking. The October note, attached to a post by Weingarten saying AFT has “always advocated for safe reopening of schools,” linked to news coverage of the union leader calling such actions “reckless, callous and cruel.”

Student failures are Randi Weingarten’s fault. Student failures are AFT’s fault. AFT donates heavily to Democrats so that these failures can be papered over or blamed on someone else.

But speaking on behalf of millions of American parents — I have four at home, I had to teach them at home, my wife had to teach them at home — I am stunned at what you have said this week about your claiming to have wanted to reopen schools. I think you’ll find that most parents believe you were the tip of the spear of school closures. There are numerous statements you made over the summer of ’20 scaring people to death about the possibility of opening schools.

And I hear no remorse whatsoever about the generational damage that’s been done to these ki, I have two kids with learning differences. Do you know how hard it is for them to learn at home, and not in a classroom that was designed for them? And for you to sit in front of Congress and the American people and say ‘What? I wanted to open them the whole time.’ I am shocked, I am stunned, and there are millions of parents who feel the exact same way.

We all saw it. Teachers wouldn’t teach. Randi Weingarten told them not to. Now she claims that we shouldn’t believe what our lyin’ eyes clearly saw.

    Sonia Sotomayor Should Retire Now

Justice Sonia Sotomayor will turn 70 in June. If she retires this year, President Joe Biden will nominate a young and reliably liberal judge to replace her. Republicans do not control the Senate floor and cannot force the seat to be held open like they did when Scalia died. Confirmation of the new justice will be a slam dunk, and liberals will have successfully shored up one of their seats on the Court—playing the kind of defense that is smart and prudent when your only hope of controlling the Court again relies on both the timing of the death or retirement of conservative judges and not losing your grip on the three seats you already hold.

It won’t be a slam dunk until after Tester stands for re-election. Then there’s a period before the new Congress in which it might happen.

Alina Habba first came to the attention of Trump The Penniless Rapist after she successfully negotiated an NDA settlement with an employee of his Bedminster Golf Club who had been sexually harassed and exploited for years by a senior management employee of the club.

It was later revealed that Habba obtained the settlement by defrauding the employee, who had previously been a friend of the employee over many years, by pretending to act as her lawyer in the negotiation.

Last week Bedminster settled a resulting lawsuit with the employee by agreeing to pay the employee’s legal fees, voiding the NDA, and allowing her to keep the original settlement award while telling her story and pursuing other legal rights. Which is important because while the settlement agrees that Bedminster “admits no wrongdoing” it also agrees that Alina Habba, who negotiated the original fraudulent terms, is not a party to the release of liability it contains. And the employee now says she intends to sue Habba for fraud.

Yesterday in Washington DC where Stephanie Lambert was appearing in the District Court for the District of Columbia representing her client, disgraced and removed former Overstock CEO Patrick Byrne, named in a sprawling defamation suit brought by Dominion Voting Systems, at the conclusion of the day’s proceedings regarding discovery motions, she was detained while in the courtroom before the judge, arrested by Federal Marshalls, handcuffed, and removed to a federal holding facility to await processing on a fugitive warrant out of Michigan where she faces criminal indictment for tampering with voting machines in 2020.

At the conclusion of the hearing the Magistrate Judge hearing the motions asked Lambert to stay behind. Once the other parties had left Federal Marshalls locked the courtroom doors and proceeded to arrest her.

@66 I would merely add that an appeals court can review whether findings of fact are supported by evidence in the record. But, as you point out, appellate courts don’t retry facts. And it’s Griffin’s own damn fault he didn’t get an appellate review of the trial record and rulings:

Former Republican Otero County Commissioner Couy Griffin failed to explain to New Mexico’s highest court how he would challenge his removal from elected office, so the court threw out his appeal.

The New Mexico Supreme Court on Tuesday issued a two-page order dismissing Griffin’s appeal of an earlier court ruling that removed him from his elected position and barred him for life from serving in elected federal and state positions. …

When someone appeals a ruling to the New Mexico Supreme Court, they must file a statement that accurately and concisely explains the legal issues in the case and outlines how the courts have handled similar appeals in the past … [and] Griffin “failed to file a statement of issues” ahead of the 30-day deadline under the rules of New Mexico’s court system.

Biden and Blinken killed our soldiers in Kabul.

    AP TOP HEADLINES
Top former US generals say failures of Biden administration in planning drove chaotic fall of Kabul

The rare testimony by the two retired generals publicly exposed for the first time the strain and differences the military leaders had with the Biden administration in the final days of the war. Two of those key differences included that the military had advised that the U.S. keep at least 2,500 service members in Afghanistan to maintain stability and a concern that the State Department was not moving fast enough to get an evacuation started.

The remarks contrasted with an internal White House review of the administration’s decisions which found that President Joe Biden’s decisions had been “severely constrained” by previous withdrawal agreements negotiated by former President Donald Trump and blamed the military, saying top commanders said they had enough resources to handle the evacuation.

The military is sick and tired of taking the blame for Biden’s incompetence and is now pushing back.

“We had forces in the region as early as 9 July, but we could do nothing,” McKenzie said, calling State’s timing “the fatal flaw that created what happened in August.”

“I believe the events of mid and late August 2021 were the direct result of delaying the initiation of the (evacuation) for several months, in fact until we were in extremis and the Taliban had overrun the country,” McKenzie said.

Milley was the nation’s top-ranking military officer at the time, and had urged President Joe Biden to keep a residual force of 2,500 forces there to give Afghanistan’s special forces enough back-up to keep the Taliban at bay and allow the U.S. military to hold on to Bagram Air Base, which could have provided the military additional options to respond to Taliban attacks.

Biden did not approve the larger residual force, opting to keep a smaller force of 650 that would be limited to securing the U.S. embassy. That smaller force was not adequate to keeping Bagram, which was quickly taken over by the Taliban.

Time to stop blaming the military. Time to stop blaming Trump. Team Biden fucked this one up.

@88 Note the decision does not allow Texas to arrest citizens. And there are lots and lots of citizens who are physically indistinguishable from illegal immigrants. Which likely means there will be lots and lots of civil rights lawsuits against Texas LE authorities. This ruling is make-work for attorneys.

@95 U.S. casualties in Kabul are peanuts compared to the body count from Netanyahu’s fuckups leading up to Oct. 7 and since.

    He’s still in office.

This summer my corrupt, incompetent, senile fossil of a president will make the same callous, dismissive claim, Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit. Thanks for the preview.

Next year Bibi will still be running his country. Biden won’t be running his.

Shorter Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit: Protecting the border by checking IDs means the US will go bankrupt because citizens won’t like producing ID on request. While in the middle of the Rio Grande.

@102 Why don’t you paint yourself brown, then see how much you enjoy constantly being detained for ID checks while trying to go to work, to school, to medical appointments, or just shopping?

Cops can’t legally do that. Police can’t request your ID just because they feel like it. They must have reasonable suspicion you’ve committed a crime.

But they will do it. And there will be lawsuits. Lots and lots of lawsuits. A regular cottage industry for lawyers.

Cool Cool. The evacuation that Trump mandated and pulled troops out ahead of time should have been done SOONER despite the Republican Congress trying their damndest to get the TRUMP deadline to be out ignored and demanding that we stay longer.

When Trump appoints Sotomayor’s replacement it will be 7-2.

    @102

You are aware that it is not required to carry an ID anywhere in these United States.

You will need one under various known circumstances. Driving a car, buying liquor or cigarettes….

Just being out and about in your neighborhood….nope. Flying a kite with your olive complexion kids in a park…nope.

Y’all are so worried about ‘gubment tyrany’ but you’re OK with “Show me your Papers” from the various white supremacists who make up a significant portion of the current ranks of law enforcement.

If you live in a border town especially SCOTUS just mandated that you show your ID with or without cause at any time.

    Good work.

Is it an inconvenient time to remind the court that the appellant previously informed his own lawyers and the court that “I probably have access to billions in cash”?
