We just can’t do our jobs because of the defunding we’ve been subjected to. We have no idea why (cough cough, just a little teargas) the citizenry here distrust us so much.
One of SPD’s highest-paid employees was caught napping in her cruiser downtown last year, according to an OPA report released on Friday. An anonymous tipster submitted a video showing Sgt. Paige Maks parked in a busy bus lane on 3rd Ave with “her head tilted back against the headrest and mouth open.”
Maks, who made $390,000 last year ($91,000 more than Chief Diaz), was reprimanded for sleeping on duty. She violated SPD’s professionalism policy, according to the report, because she could not monitor criminal activity, answer 911 calls, or supervise her subordinates, all of which required her to be awake. The OPA wrote that “the community distrust [her] actions potentially caused cannot be overstated.”
Of course it wouldn’t be an Independent investigation by the OPA if it didn’t include exonerating language and just a light talking to disciplinary action.
Regarding Maks’ parking job, the OPA argued that it was inconsiderate but not unlawful, as police cruisers are exempt from city and state traffic laws. Maks’ vehicle was completely obstructing the bus lane, requiring buses to maneuver around her to pick up passengers.
33,
Your city is held hostage by a uniformed criminal gang of lazy, incompetent assholes.

The so-called “moderates” in the GOP will all fold.
I promise you.
And the simplest explanation for this is that there simply are no Republican “moderates”. It’s all completely fake. And they’ve been telling us as much for decades. Didn’t “Sheriff” Dave Reichert always tell you? He was fake. He sought permission from the extreme conservatives to take meaningless votes whenever it was deemed safe that appeared to be “moderate”. But the reactionary authoritarian fascist beating heart of the GOP could always count on him when it realyly counted. The same is 100% true of every single other “moderate” Republican in the last forty years.
This is the truth of it. The fake “moderates” will fall in line when they have to. And the fascists wing of the GOP will prevail just as they always have for the last forty years. They will get Jordan or they will get some puppet controlled by Jordan and the rest of the Death Caucus. And when it happens the corporate media, who have always slaved tirelessly in service to the myth of Republican “moderation” will conjure up some idiotic and completely false narrative to explain it all away.
And the House will be nudged just that much closer to where Trump needs them to be in January of 2025.

The Republican caucus isnt interested. The only thing Jeffries has asked for is some very obviously much needed revisions to the standing rules, especially the profoundly stupid one allowing for a single Florida pedophile to call a vote to vacate the chair. But yes, they’d also like a couple of additional Dems on the Rules committee, and they’d like to make it easier for members of the minority party to introduce amendments and get a vote without the consent of the majority. So far the Republicans have told them to fuck off.
They would much rather SHITDOWN than do anything even the slightest bit “bipartisan”. That’s why they got rid of Brave Kevin.

46
Roger Rabbitspews:
@43 In January 2025 the House will be the one elected in November 2024, presided over by a speaker elected in January 2025. @48 update: Final results are in for this nationally-watched municipal election.
In 2021, about 3,400 people voted in this Memphis suburb’s municipal elections. This year, Alderman Gabrielle Hanson, the Super-MAGA, Christian Nationalist candidate with white supremacist militia ties and neo-Nazi friends running for mayor, got 3,322 votes. The long-serving incumbent mayor, Ken Moore, got 12,822 votes. That’s right, turnout was about five times normal, as residents flocked to the polls to keep their city government from being taken over by a divisive rightwing freak.
Trump’s lawyers apparently are arguing the election interference indictments against him are double jeopardy because he’s already been acquitted by the Senate.

The backstory with all these attorney defendants is they’re pleading to low-level offenses that won’t get them permanently disbarred. The big fish (Gules, Eastman, etc.) shouldn’t enjoy that privilege.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@13 I don’t have to defend this. I’m paid to take risks, and it either works out or it doesn’t. It’s a bet on an unreliable grid, more frequent and destructive storms, very low market penetration, and a monopoly market share. Just a couple years ago, this stock was $500. Not saying it will be again, just guessing that over time it’ll do better than your lowball projection. As for timing the very bottom of a stock, I can’t, nor can any Wall Street analyst, and I strongly suspect you can’t either.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@14 But the gun wasn’t in his shoes or laptop case, was it? It was in his carry-on bag, which makes your low-wattage logic function irrelevant, as usual.

@20 “Trump has lots.” Yes, but why would he spend a dime on people who will never be useful to him again?
Someone who refuses to take care of his underlings’ families while they do time on his behalf will never make it as a gangster. He doesn’t even know how to hire hitmen; they’re all still alive and singing.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@21 It’s important to remember that Republicans don’t consider blacks full citizens, so black votes are illegitimate, therefore the election was stolen by millions of fraudulent votes cast by noncitizens.

Even dumber than the troll? Note the precipitous drop in IQ this thread was hit with @13 and 14.
Did the traitor finally muster the courage to come here and talk about politics? Only if one believes that talking about stocks and cock rings is talking politics.
The troll is a wannabe not-a-dumbfuck, but he’ll never see the day.
Can’t expect much from a coward who routinely drops his trousers and bends over whenever he sees a horse.

GOP conference reluctantly nominates Tom Emmer for speaker after 5 votes
With his votes to certify the 2020 presidential election and to protect same-sex marriage, no way he’ll ever become Speaker on Repug votes alone.

Your city is held hostage by a uniformed criminal gang of lazy, incompetent assholes.
$400,000 to sleep in a bus zone. And she keeps her job. Keeps all of her pay, including the $150/hour she was earning while she slept. The utter contempt they have for their employers is simply breathtaking.
And you fools voted for more of this. You really did.
Elijah Dominic McDotcom spews:
35,
Facing opposition from Cheeto Mussolini, Emmer has already dropped out.
The process starts all over again, until Republicans are reduced to vassals groveling at Trump’s feet. They have no other choice.
Any vote for any Republican is a vote for Trump. And a vote for Trump is a vote to abandon democracy forever.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@34, 35 – Didn’t take long is right. Emmer is out. Next batter is …?
Elijah Dominic McDotcom spews:
$400,000 to block a bus zone and pass out – safe to presume drunk.
And I just want to point out, once again, that this is a job which, when honestly reduced to its true simplest elements, consists essentially of driving around in an massively overweight over equipped SUV, meeting with crime victims, taking their statements, filing out crime reports, and then passing those reports and those statements up the chain to detectives for follow up. It’s about 99% clerical. The sleeping on the job is an indication of just how stultifyingly boring the routine reallly is.
It’s the highest paid, easiest fucking public sector job in America.
And the incompetent shitbirds you put in charge somehow manage to consistently only hire the worst.
Roger Rabbit spews:
When will the obvious become obvious, namely, it’s going to take some Democratic votes to elect a speaker?
IMHO, Jeffries & Co. shouldn’t let this go on much longer, or they’ll become complicit in the breakdown of governing. They shouldn’t take a terrible speaker, of course, but they should let it be known they’ll supply the bare minimum number of votes required to elect one they can live with.
Roger Rabbit spews:

40,
The so-called “moderates” in the GOP will all fold.
Elijah Dominic McDotcom spews:
Bullshit.
They are overstaffed by 1000.
Elijah Dominic McDotcom spews:
They already have.
Remember?
Roger Rabbit spews:
@43 In January 2025 the House will be the one elected in November 2024, presided over by a speaker elected in January 2025. If Republicans expand their majority, it’ll presumably be easier for them to select a speaker. If they lose their majority, as they should and deserve to, their internal troubles will be immaterial to House governance.
