The brushing aside of constitutional rights by Republicans across the board warrants paying intense attention to. Trump is making it clear the First, Fourth, and Fifth Amendments won’t impede his planned Revenge Tour. And even though the 18-year-old vote is enshrined in the Constitution, Ramaswamy is proposing doing away with it without ever acknowledging any need to amend the Constitution to do so. Other examples abound.
When you couple that with the behavior we saw surrounding the 2020 election, the conclusion is inescapable that Republicans in general have no intention of being contained by laws or rights; there’s very clear signaling that in the future they’re going to operate on the basis of raw power, and brush aside any laws or rights that get in their way.
It’s basically the same basis on which 20th-century communist revolutionaries operated, and we have no guarantees that Republicans wouldn’t engage in the same mass enslavement and slaughter if they acquire similar absolute power. They certainly talk like they want to.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Sarah Palin is postulating again the Dems will “parachute” Michelle O. into the nomination. That’s not newsworthy; nobody gives a shit what the Wasilla Barbie says.
What’s worthy of comment in this news report is this sentence: “When faced with questions on the president’s age, the campaign and the White House have often argued people should judge him on his ability to perform the job.”
There’s plenty of evidence Biden isn’t being judged on ability or results. Overall, he’s done a masterful job (especially in foreign policy), demonstrating the savvy that comes from 50 years of experience in politics. Yet, inexplicably, the public rates him lower than Trump, a total incompetent, if you believe the polls (of which I’m skeptical).
What, exactly, qualifies Michelle Obama for the presidency? She’s never held office. Her political experience is secondhand, albeit at close quarters. She’s not a policy wonk who would bring exceptional relevant knowledge to the job. All she really has to offer is name familiarity and her profile as a black woman with a pleasing personality. And the good sense to debunk the notion that she’s interested or sees herself as a candidate.
Where am I going with this? The obvious place: It’s crazy that so much of the public judges potential presidential candidates by superficial criteria instead of their ability to do the job, and inexcusable that the media plays up meaningless tropes while underreporting actual performance in office. This is not a good path to be going down. And we already know voters are capable of taking that path; they elected a TV reality star with zero political experience or governing ability to the nation’s highest office and seem prepared to do so again.
Democracy only works and endures if the people don’t blow it up with their bad choices.

Roger, according to FOX in November the network will host a prime time debate between Democrat who isn’t running and a Republican who has no chance in his party’s primary.
We are in a post-political era of sorts.
Celebrity worship combined with the attention economy is resulting in a public who feel much more than they think. The fact that Sarah Palin receives any attention at all tells the tale.
Yet thankfully, at least for the last few election cycles, the celbutard contagion remains isolated to a few unique electoral demographics that mostly skew entirely Republican. It’s how they find themselves saddled with a three-ring-circus of kooks, gadflys, con artists, and former busboys running their caucuses in the House and Senate, and why Republican “statesmen” of any merit are racing each other to the exits. Trump is the king media celebrity to an emerging party of media celebrities. And we shouldn’t wonder that trad media suffering dwindling attention themselves are eager to promote this nonsense.
But their disease is not our problem. And Democrats continue to elevate, promote, support, and elect conventionally competent, skillful, and boring professionals to elected office everywhere and just get on with cleaning up the messes left behind by the departing circus clowns. It really isn’t in the interest of the media to notice any of this. Because “boring” conventional political competency is not great for declining ratings.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@6 “a public who feel much more than they think”
You could’ve readily added they feel the economy is worse than it is, and that’s having an impact on politics.
Not that the economy is without problems. The biggest problem is consumers spending money they don’t have. Savings are vanishing, credit card debt is rising, and credit card default rates have doubled. Two thirds of Americans don’t have $1,000 for an emergency.
It’s clear the public is impulse-driven at this point.

Lewandowski was charged under Nevada’s sexual battery statute and in November copped a nolo deal to pay fines, and receive counseling.
Well, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas as they say. Two years later Odom is a big money backer of another up-and-coming TrumpWorld star, Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry, a front-runner in next year’s Governor’s race being talked about for Senate and who knows?

“We do not want a lying fascist as president.”
Yes. But it’s also important that we do not want a business regulatory environment that ignores these kinds of violations of the law. It matters to everyone that businesses must be reasonably truthful and transparent about their finances.
Even if lenders, underwriters, and direct business partners are “in on the lying” as Trump claims in this case, even if “everybody who matters knows” that Trump lies about his wealth, and the value of the things he owns, it still puts others at considerable risk.
Employees, vendors, and all kinds of businesses and services just one or two steps removed from these fraudulent lending statements are directly and materially affected by the underlying falsehood. Lives are ruined. Families destroyed. Businesses are driven into failure. Because of these kinds of lies by corrupt Republican business people like Trump.
The defense being offered here by Republicans like Trump and the Crybaby ask us to ignore all that and simply concede that “the little people” who get truly fucked over by these completely fraudulent, falsely valued enterprises are unworthy of the law’s protections. But America has seen enough of that carnage in the last two decades to know better. It may be Republican orthodoxy to let The Masters of the Universe tell each other whatever lies they need to make their pump-and-dump fraud schemes succeed. But when they collapse under the weight of all those lies it’s the communities of real people who suffer the consequences.
That’s one of the most important reasons why the NY lawsuit is a worthy one. Because it’s one more way that Democrats demonstrate to the world that the rule of law protects all of us, but especially it protects the least powerful of all of us. The sooner the Trump Organization is placed under the control of a Special Master the safer American communities will be.

Senator Menendez by comparison is criminally indicted on very serious charges of corruption for which there is substantial evidence. Now keep in mind the general range for a podium is $500 on the low end for a lucite stage item to about $2k for a customized item with logos and a choice of materials. So $19K is a little odd.
But no one has ever seen the podium. There hasn’t been a new podium at any of the governor’s appearances since being elected. It was purchased from an event rental company who even at standard markup would know that a $1500 podium you really could only get away with charging $3-4K unless your purchaser is laundering money or just incredibly stupid.
Well turns out the podium was purchased at nearly the exact time the Governor went on a ‘economic mission’ to Paris taking her non governmental best friend Hannah Stone. When that bit of news came to light the state GOP quietly paid for the ‘podium’.
Now there is nothing odd about questionable junket tourism by politicians but it would very much appear that the Governor tried to have taxpayers send her and her bestie personal spending money while in Paris and then they got caught.
The Governor’s spokespeople continue to insist the podium is totally real and has been installed in her office, which would be a really easy thing to prove with a single picture or televised address or press conference. So far it’s over a week and no such images have been provided. “Just Trust us, she totally bought a podium for like nine times what such a top of the line item would usually cost.”

I suppose you could take issue with whether the correct number is 20% or 30%, but when discussing a 2023-2027 contract, you have to take future inflation into consideration, and that number surely is at least 10%. Some money is more respectable than other money, even though it may be of lesser quantity.
It’s also worthwhile to remember how this whole dick-measuring business got started. I never bragged about my stock market winnings; rather, I compared them to workers’ wages to show how absurd and unfair American capitalism’s distribution of wealth between capital and labor is. My intent was, and is, to mock a system that allows someone who does no work, and produces nothing, to get 10 or 20 times as much of that nation’s economic output as the worker who produces that wealth.
This strikes a nerve with Republicans like Doctor Dumbfuck who are the main beneficiaries of that system, and fear like hell that someone might question it. And his lying and denial about my success in exploiting that system — which anyone can do — reveals just how sensitive he is about its inherent unfairness. Witness, for example, his faux outrage when a fast-food worker gets a raise from $9 to $10 an hour.

Maybe it helps him forget what House Republicans are doing to his own portfolio. If so, I’m happy to be able to help him cope with his mental depression. I’ll even pour him another drink.
As for me, stock investing is just a hobby, and while it’s a nice feeling to have seven-figure savings socked away, I don’t spend it and don’t expect to ever need it, and it wouldn’t bother me very much if it all went away. A paper decline in one or two of my stocks certainly doesn’t bother me as much as it excites Doctor Dumbfuck. We have different attitudes toward money and different psychologies.
Roger Rabbit spews:
What I really want to happen is for this correction to keep going so I can buy stock that isn’t overvalued and get better dividend yields.
Generac, of course, is a casino bet. I paid $98 a share for 100 shares of a stock that a year earlier was trading for $500 a share for the same reason I occasionally spend $1 on a lottery ticket. It’s far less than 1% of my portfolio and I can afford to lose the whole sum, although that’s unlikely. More likely I’d lose a few hundred dollars, although right now, after several days of GOP Shitdown Selloff, I’m still up $500 on that bet.
This is what Doctor Dumbfuck is having a meltdown over. I’d posit that I’m made of sturdier psychological stuff than he is. We all are. His nerves can’t even handle other people’s betting. I can’t imagine the angst he must feel about his own bets.

73,
“… but this time around the solution proposed by the dumbfuck and his fascist political party is for America to become a fascist totalitarian state.”
Because they finally wore out the old Republican solution which was to cut taxes for billionaires and close all the schools and health clinics.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@43 How Doctor Dumbfuck struggles to process the difference between Republicans and Democrats in responding to alleged corruption (or, e.g., alleged sex-trafficking of minors):
“Some of them, sure. But what about the ones with the power to actually do something about his continuing presence?”
Texas Republicans had the power to actually do something about Ken Paxton’s continuing presence, and we know what they did with that power. Compare and contrast.
Now here comes the guy who still votes for Republicans, yet he wants to wag a finger and lecture us about Democrats being soft on corruption …
Roger Rabbit spews:
@45 He also wants us to believe the Democrats are the racist party, and Biden is more racist than the ex-president who claimed all Mexican migrants are rapists …
Roger Rabbit spews:
@46 “… it is perfectly reasonable for the Majority Leader to allow some of the process to play out …”
Not to a dumbfuck who equates accusation with guilt, and wants people executed without trial. But who gives a shit what he thinks is “reasonable”?
Unserious Twat spews:

Not so worn out that they’re not going to do it.

Two words. George Santos.
A total, complete fraud, and they’ve done nothing about him.

@47, 48 – Thinking about guilt or innocence for four days is obstruction to someone who needs only four seconds.

…just granted the motion for partial judgement.
And issued sanctions against Trump’s attorneys, two of Trump’s children (Donnie and Ewick), and seized the company’s business certificates.
As of this moment the Trump Organization is no longer in the control of the Trump family.
And the trial set to begin next month will no focus on penalties, restitution, and any reorganization of the businesses.
Trump is now legally the complete business failure we always knew he was.
And perhaps the worst part for him is that so much of his “personal wealth” is directly tied up in the businesses that he may not even retain control over the brand of toilet paper he wipes his fat ass with.
Just like clockwork the stupid Crybaby opens his fat pie hole to fly to Trump’s rescue and Trump shoves a great big shit sandwich into it.
Enjoy that meal, Republicans.
Roger Rabbit spews:
“Judge Arthur Engoron … granted Attorney General Letitia James’ motion for summary judgment, finding Trump, his sons, and others ‘to be liable as a matter of law'” for defauding banks and insurance companies. Now the only issue left for the trial to determine is “how much Trump and the other defendants should pay.”

Here is a very high quality summary of the civil fraud compaints against Trump, his family, and his company, the current status of the fraud schemes and their true estimated values, and the nature of all the assets involved in thte schemes:

This is by a journalist who has led the way into deep diving into Trump finances for about a decade.
It may be quite a giant fall for these fucks.

@84 Makes your head spin.
Of course, any detailed account of Trump’s extensive, repetitive, and far-reaching frauds will be over the heads of Republican voters. This would be so even if they cared about character, evidence, and facts; which they do not. If anything his fans admire his achievements in surrounding himself with the trappings of extreme wealth and acquiring real power by lying, cheating, and defrauding. In short, his character is also their character. Doctor Dumbfuck is one of these inferior citizens and voters.

Terrible people going through ghastly difficulties. All entirely of their own making.
