Every successful challenge of an incumbent president has resulted from a campaign that transformed the election from a choice into a referendum. Even if DeSantis’ record were not almost entirely fabricated, it would still put him at a massive disadvantage to an incumbent as accomplished as Dark Brandon. Biden’s age will remain a weakness. But unless Republicans produce a candidate and a campaign positioned to exploit that weakness they will lose again.
We should be thanking them for offering to match Fat Midget’s record against Joe Biden’s. It’s as good as a concession.

My objection to these people is that when they campaign (and in the House that is always) they frequently rely on positioning their views in contrast to the rest of their own party, and in particular to specific other Democrats, including their own president, rather than in contrast to Republicans. They do this because they are lazy and cowardly. Lazy because the “party controversy” that this positioning produces is a dumb-easy, “man bites dog” way to get media attention. Cowardly because it requires real courage to engage with moderate, lean-R voters in these swing districts and help them to understand why Republicans are amoral fascists.

It’s important to understand that fascism most often experiences rapid growth in periods of either real, or perceived scarcity. The scarcity perceived among modern Republicans that leads them to embrace fascism is owing to a decline of political influence and privilege, rather than any real economic scarcity. These are all mostly economically comfortable to affluent people, who nevertheless feel “threatened” and see their opportunity for or access to authority under direct threat from growing equality, pluralism, and diversity.
Within such an atmosphere of perceived scarcity, disabled persons are regarded as “using too much resource”, even when the resources are essentially non-economic in nature. Thus, a highly capable and accomplished disabled person, for example Cyrus Habib, is resented by Republican fascists not because they demand too many economic resources relative to their contributions, but rather because they receive “too much attention and get too much credit”. As a Republican sees it, such a person is getting more influence and authority than their physical characteristics would justify. And this is why you won’t see Greg Abbot on any ballots next year. It’s also why the first time Fat Midget stands next to Donald Trump on a debate stage, his campaign will be over.
