– Seattle needs to build a ton more housing. Sometimes that’s where there are trees. We can also plant way more trees to make up for it.

– Tidepooling. Sounds like a blast.

– 15-Hour City

Today’s latest Atlanta Fed GDPNow model has revised to project even further contraction, now projecting – 2.8% (from -1.5% Feb 28). This revision triggered further revisions to the Census bureau and ISM projections for consumer spending and real private fixed investments to 0% and 0.1% respectively.

Just 30 days in office was all it took for Republicans to shift the economy from growth into recession.

    6,
We may wind up in a deep recession with rising inflation, high interest rates, supply shortages, and double digit unemployment. But gas and housing prices may finally fall. And eggs may indeed fall to below $4 a dozen for those brave enough to eat them.

A collapse of wage income can be expected to be accompanied by a collapse of income tax revenues and increases in claims for benefits. So Republicans may also get to claim another massive expansion of the debt and a collapse of services. They’ll claim it was all “inevitable” and blame Biden. The guys wailing away at the foundation of the economy with sledge hammers will call it a “woke-DEI house of cards”.

@15 How about the stock markets? Thats one hell of Ponzi Scheme if you ask me.

It is not. A stock share is a claim on future earnings of a company. When the Pentagon buys F-35s from Lockheed, the company makes money, which it sends to me.

A Ponzi scheme is when a company uses new investors’ money to pay old investors to fool people into believing they’re making money when they’re not. Lockheed pays me from the profits of selling F-35s to the government and foreign buyers, not from selling stock to new investors.

Bitcoin is a Ponzi scheme. So is DJT stock. So is Trump real estate. Social Security will become one after Trump and the GOP Congress overhaul the full faith and credit of the U.S. government.

The facility was not “empty”. It was staffed and ready, including oversight staffing from HHS administrators responsible for ensuring readiness and contract compliance.

Three months after reacting with giddiness that Donald Trump’s “mass deportation” campaign promise would make them boatloads of money, private prison executives are … licking their lips at a potentially massive immigration enforcement budget from the Republican-controlled Congress.

“We believe the scale of the opportunity before our company is unlike any we’ve previously experienced,” David Donahue, the CEO of GEO Group, said …. GEO Group is the largest private contractor for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Trump wants to speed up migrations, and ICE has to meet daily quotas.

The use of “expedited removal” has traditionally been limited to recent arrivals found within 100 miles of a US border. But the Trump administration is expanding it to more swiftly deport immigrants anywhere in the country who have been in the United States for up to two years. The latest guidance even suggests some people could be considered for “expedited removal” beyond the two-year time limit and encourages agents to rearrest immigrants they previously couldn’t deport, likely because their countries of origin wouldn’t take them back.

China Hits U.S. Farmers with 15% Tariffs on Chicken, Corn, Cotton
March 4, 2025—China’s Ministry of Finance today unveiled a new layer of tariffs targeting U.S. agricultural exports, setting a 15% rate on chicken, corn, wheat, and cotton, and a 10% rate on soybeans, pork, beef, and other products, effective March 10. This move directly counters President Donald Trump’s decision to hike U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods to 20%, implemented at midnight today.

The U.S., meanwhile, faces a precarious moment. Farm incomes are projected to drop sharply in 2025—USDA forecasts a 25% decline in net cash income from 2023 levels—exacerbated by low commodity prices and high input costs (fertilizer, fuel).

Nebraska learning the lesson that Reagan learned but the generation of GOP intellects raised on Limbaugh and Beck never have.

You cannot cut taxes as a means to increase revenue through economic growth

LINCOLN — An updated Nebraska economic forecast on Friday offered the Legislature up to $165 million in potential new revenue to help shrink the state’s anticipated budget shortfall.

Roughly $65 million of that additional revenue would be generated over the next two fiscal years, largely from projected increases in corporate tax collections. Those funds, plus recent budget tweaks recommended by the Legislature’s Appropriations Committee, have narrowed the state’s formerly $432 million budget shortfall to just under $200 million.
    …
Gov. Jim Pillen, in a statement, called the update good news: “A sign of Nebraska’s strong and resilient economy.”

He said the increases could help deliver “critical investments in education and property tax relief.”

Tina Peters is the batshit MAGA Nazi county clerk in rural Colorado who committed election fraud in support of The Big Lie of 2021. Last August she was convicted at trial by a unanimous jury and in October she was sentenced to 9 years in state prison at a sentencing hearing highlighted by her open mocking of and arguing with the judge who would be passing sentence upon her.

Now Fat Hitler (apparently after someone must have spent a full day teaching him using cartoons and Play Dough that his pardon powers are limited to federal convictions) is considering cutting off all federal funds from Colorado unless Jared Polis issues a full pardon. And Pam Bondi is launching a DOJ investigation of the judge.

One significant risk as we watch MAGA Nazi Republicans flush America down the toilet, is that many of these smaller, but nonetheless very significant finger rapes being committed on the rule of law will go unnoticed and largely unreported. That’s especially true now that the major corporate media companies have all agreed to look the other way.

Trump will “probably” announce tariff compromise deals with Canada and Mexico soon, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said Tuesday.

The potential agreements would likely involve scaling back at least part of Trump’s brand new 25% tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada, he added.

Lutnick’s comments came minutes after the U.S. stock market limped to … a second day of sharp declines ….

The compromise with Canada and Mexico will likely be revealed as soon as Wednesday, Lutnick said on “Fox Business.”
