Fat Hitler has ordered his Secretary of Agriculture to lower egg prices. In response Brooke Rollins (DEI) is announcing an intervention to stop further destruction of flocks infected with H5N1 avian influenza to prevent pandemic spread of the deadly virus and further crossover into human populations.

That ought to work. Widespread infection and a few more cases of bird to human transmission should reliably produce a collapse in demand and prices along with it.

As usual someone put out a bullshit statistic, and Republicans picked it up and ran with it:

… a startling statistic about federal workers keeps coming up: Only 6% of federal employees are working full time in their offices.

As for where this particular bullshit statistic — which nobody from the White House to Congress bothered to fact-check — came from:

The 6% statistic burst into the public consciousness in early December of last year when Sen. Joni Ernst, an Iowa Republican, released a report on federal workers …. A footnote cited a single source: a story published months earlier by Federal News Network, a news organization in the suburbs of Washington that … had invited readers to answer an online survey about their work habits, drawing 6,338 from the federal workforce of 2.2 million. A story about the survey … noted that only 6% of the respondents reported working full time in the office.

The day after Ernst released her report, Federal News Network added an editor’s note to … “clarify that the survey was a non-scientific survey of respondents who self-reported that they are current federal employees, and who were self-selected.”

The editors … also added data from … the Office of Management and Budget, which found that 54% of the federal workforce was required to show up at an office every day. …

Jared Serbu, the deputy editor of Federal News Network, said he and his colleagues were taken aback by how his organization’s clearly unscientific survey had somehow been transformed into a defining statistic about federal employees. “It was a survey of our niche audience for our niche audience,” Serbu said. “Nobody’s ever been confused about it before this.”

Yeah, well, it confused Republicans, from top down, because they’re gullible dumbasses who only hear what they want to hear. So much so, in fact, that Elon turned the 6% number into 1%; where he got 1% is unclear, he probably pulled it straight out of his ass.

In due course, the media and other fact-checkers tried to set things aright:

Later in December, a TV report cited the editor’s note and labeled the 6% number as “false.” At about the same time, PolitiFact looked at Musk’s claim that only 1% of federal workers show up to work each day and labeled it “pants on fire,” the fact-checking site’s lowest rating for a statement that is “not accurate and makes a ridiculous claim.”

Do you think Republicans accepted the correction? Of course not!

That should have ended the conversation. But it didn’t. On Jan. 20 … the White House issued a statement that … said “The President will also return federal workers to work, as only 6% of employees currently work in person.”

    Trump then added,

“You can’t work at home. They’re not working. They’re playing tennis, they’re playing golf, or they have other jobs. But they’re not working, or they’re certainly not working hard.” (Multiple news outlets noted that Trump had golfed on nine of his first 30 days in office.)

“It’s said that we live in a post-fact society …” We sure as hell do, and Republicans are to blame.

D.C. police told the I-Team they sent an arrest warrant to the U.S. attorney’s office on Friday. The warrant has not been signed. Police said the case was sent back to them for further investigation. The U.S. attorney’s office said it does not comment on uncharged cases.

Rain and gusty winds pummeled western Washington Monday night, and power was knocked out for thousands of customers, including in urban neighborhoods like Fremont in North Seattle.

The outages come at a particularly vulnerable time. Last week, the Trump administration cut 430 positions at the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), which is 15% of its total workforce. BPA owns three-quarters of the Pacific Northwest’s high-voltage network, and power companies rely on its services.

“These are literally the people who keep the lights on and now they’re being fired on a whim because Trump and Elon Musk do not have a clue,” said Sen. Patty Murray, D-Washington, in a post on X with video of her recent speech.

Here’s 21 separate, independent, verified pieces of evidence that DOGE plans to steal personal information from federal databases, presumably to coerce, intimidate, and or punish Trump opponents and critics.

Twenty-one civil service employees resigned en masse from Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, according to a letter posted online and shared with media outlets Tuesday.

The letter said they refused to use their technical expertise to “compromise core government systems, jeopardize Americans’ sensitive data, or dismantle critical public services.”

“We swore to serve the American people and uphold our oath to the Constitution across presidential administrations,” wrote the staffers, who joined when the agency was known as the United States Digital Service (USDS). “However, it has become clear that we can no longer honor those commitments at the United States DOGE Service.”

    https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/doge/21-doge-staffers-resign-saying-refuse-compromise-core-government-syste-rcna193622

If Trump and Musk weren’t planning to misuse this access to information, and misuse the information, there would be no need for 21 honest government employees to give up their employment in order to honor their oaths and avoid being ordered to commit criminal behavior.

Spanberger called the Democrats’ campaign strategy “a failure”

The choice of the words “campaign” and “strategy” would claim that the topic of her critique, what the author of Dumbfuck’s source called “promoting the policy of redirecting funds away from police departments, was actually adopted by a party campaign somewhere as part of that party campaign’s strategy.

Of 109 budgets analyzed, 91 agencies have upped police funding by at least 2%.

Cutting police funding was never a party strategy, nor was it ever strategy incorporated into a party funded campaign.

Democrat-run cities spend more money on policing than Republican-run cities, with the 25 largest Democrat-run cities spending 38 percent more on policing per capita than the 25 largest Republican-run cities.

Of the 25 largest cities, 20 saw increases in their police budgets from FY 2019 to FY 2022. Twenty-one of these cities are run by Democrats.

The 25 largest cities saw their police budgets grow by a total of 5 percent from FY 2019 to FY 2022.

Democrat-run cities have more police per capita than Republican-run cities. The 25 largest Democrat-run cities employ 75 percent more police officers per capita than the 25 largest Republican-run cities.

At the federal level, President Joe Biden and Democrats sponsored and secured passage of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), which provides federal resources to support police departments. Republicans voted against President Biden’s ARPA, which included $350 million in federal funding to hire more police.

If only prosecutorial misconduct were isolated to Oklahoma we could all relax and forget about it.

But hundreds sit wrongfully convicted on death rows all over the US because of the casual routine of prosecutorial misconduct. Brady violations, Batson violations, and Napue violations are so common and rampant in many jurisdictions that it’s a miracle that any of those put to death are guilty at all. And that’s before we ever grapple with the even more routine misconduct of police officers lying on affidavits, coercing false testimony, and destroying evidence before prosecutors even see the file.
