    It looks like Trump blinked on Mexican tariffs after the Dow went down a measly 1,000 points Friday and today. What a wuss.

    From what I’m reading, he extracted a promise from Mexico’s president to station 10,000 Mexican troops along the border. That’s about 4 soldiers per mile, which is like putting out milk cartons. Obviously nothing more than a gesture enabling Trump to save face.

    And it takes those troops away from domestic duties like fighting the drug cartels.

    The money to buy TikTok wouldn’t necessarily have to come from taxpayers. It could come from selling off national parks and other federal lands. Republicans don’t like public ownership of land anyway.

    Except they probably want to keep BLM lands under government management so ranchers can continue to buy grazing rights for one-fifth to one-quarter of market rates.

    (2) A person commits the offense of trespass by an illegal alien if such person: (a) Is an illegal alien; (b) Knowingly enters this state and remains in this state; and (c) Is physically present in this state at the time a licensed bounty hunter or a peace officer apprehends such person.

    (3) (a) The offense of trespass by an illegal alien under this section is a felony for which the authorized term of imprisonment is life imprisonment without eligibility for probation, parole, conditional release, or release except by act of the Governor or the natural death of such person.

    (b) The provisions of this section shall not apply if the federal government enters into a written agreement with the department to take such person into custody and, within twenty-four (24) hours of such person being committed to the custody of the federal government, deport such person.

    This article says about 18,500 illegals work in Mississippi, pay about $43.5 million a year in state and local taxes, and spend about $300 million a year in the state economy.

    Mississippi spends roughly $24K per year to incarcerate people (roughly 1/4th of the $107K Washington spends, so they must not feed their inmates). Locking up 24,000 illegals would cost Mississippi about $550 million a year. That’s about 8% of the state’s total budget, to be paid in perpetuity or until they die off behind the walls, whichever occurs first. So I guess they can afford it, and as a bonus, they’ll get to pick their cotton themselves.

    Under a ruling by a Washington judge on Monday, the infamous far-right group was stripped of control over the trademark “Proud Boys” and was barred from selling any merchandise with either its name or its symbols without the consent of a Black church in Washington that its members vandalized. In June 2023, the church won a $2.8 million default judgment against the Proud Boys after the organization’s former leader, Enrique Tarrio, and several of his subordinates attacked it in a night of violence after a pro-Trump rally in December 2020.

    The ruling by the judge, Tanya M. Jones Bosier of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, effectively means that Proud Boys chapters across the country can no longer legally use their own name or the group’s traditional symbols without the permission of the church that was attacked, the Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church.

    The ruling also clears the way for the church to try to seize any money that the Proud Boys might make by selling merchandise like hats or T-shirts emblazoned with their name or with any of their familiar logos, including a black and yellow laurel wreath.

    In a lengthy statement, Mr. Tarrio said the church should have its nonprofit status revoked and Judge Bosier should be impeached. “Their actions are a betrayal of justice,” he wrote, adding, “I hold in contempt any motions, judgments and orders issued against me.”

    Trump is a blowhard and blusters a lot, and loves to troll liberals, but if he follows through on this it qualifies as genocide and makes him an imperialist landgrabber. Also, it will be enormously expensive; and if we can’t afford to take care of our own people (Medicaid, school lunches, etc.), then we can’t afford to spend billions on meddling in Gaza, either.
