    There are about 45 four-star officers in the US military today, with less than 2 million people in the armed forces. At the height of World War II, with 12 million people in the military, there were eight four-star officers. The ranks are bloated with too many high ranking officers. It’s time to trim the ranks.

    At the start of WWII, I knew the upper ranks were filled with much “dead wood.” I worked to get 25 generals and 400 colonels to be forcibly retired from the Army. I knew those people, mostly from my West Point days, and their war-fighting enthusiasm and abilities were quite lacking.

A normal American citizen would go to jail for such activity, but the CIA gets to kidnap, kill, torture and do whatever it pleases to advance its power and privilege.

    For anyone who harbors hopes of obtaining broad public permission for some killings, the very first imperative is to create a framing in which some killings are “good”. The need for a broadly held value of “some killings good” and “some killings bad” of other humans to replace the existing broadly held value of “all killings of humans are bad” is what leads to the creation of a permission structure for killings of humans.

    And it’s quite striking for someone who poses as a “protector of human life”, at least when that “human life” depends upon the servility and subjegation of women. But this is not an argument about what consistutes a “human life”. There is no debate at all that Jordan Neely and Brian Thompson were both human beings.
    Instead, what fascists are demanding here is that we surrender to a new framing in which some human beings are worthy of the protections afforded by the law and by an orderly society. And some human beings are not.

    Getting otherwise responsible, humanitarian citizens and leaders to give in to that framing is crucial and in fact is already well advanced. We are being driven to become increasingly more blood thirsty and violent as a people, yearning more and more for revenge and payback, as perfectly exemplified by the man just elected to be the next president.

    Brian Thompson didn’t deserve to die. And neither did Jordan Neely. But getting a jury to agree that Jordan Neely did deserve to die is important to those who wish to kill a few more Jordan Neelys.

    I don’t agree that there is some obligation for anyone, regardless of their political leanings, to raise their voice in objection to specific murders, as opposed to all murders.

    The media in our country drive a focused narrative of fascination and horror over violent crimes directed at more affluent, white people, while studiously ignoring the far more common violence and crime that is a daily routine experience of Americans who are poor, homeless, non-white, etc.

    Let’s just agree that killing human beings is wrong and ought to be prevented. And when it is not prevented, those who perpetrate the killing of another human being should face consequences.
