Responding to reports of violent crime occupies less than 4% of their time.
Police don’t do the work that you think they do. So before you conclude that more police will make you more safe, you ought to take a close look at how police spend nearly all of their time. They do not spend it doing things to make you safe.
Between responding to non-criminal reports and “Proactive policing” uniformed patrol officers spend up to half of their time doing things that have nothing whatsoever to do with making any of us safe, and that are often very likely to put many of us at greater risk.

(The unit that was called off immediately for the 8:03 call is one of the four responding to the now dead pedestrian.) So according to you and SPD despite no witnesses corroborating…
SPD unit somewhere you have to assume further South as he was traveling North on Dexter but possibly even further away in four minutes threw on his lights (no evidence), turned on his siren (no evidence) Crossed through multiple likely to be very heavily trafficked intersections where pedestrians are likely to be at 8 on a Friday (thanks Jeff) as department cautionary public safety guidelines would require and (SPD statement) “SPD told The Seattle Times on Wednesday that Kandula was crossing from east to west in the crosswalk when she was hit.” AND he did not take proper caution to ensure an intersection was clear before entering.
