I went to Denver intending to do a lot of videoblogging… but drastically underestimated the time it would take to review and edit the couple hours of video I ended up recording. So over time, I’ll post a few clips here and there, kinda like a documentary in dribs and drabs.
Anyway, here’s a short interview I did with Michelle Gregoire, the governor’s daughter, when they visited the Big Tent where us bloggers hung out.
Marvin Stamn spews:
Does she have enough experience to be a daughter?
How well was she vetted before being paraded around in public like a prop?
Does she wear lipstick?
Was she laughing at the interviewer stumbing for words or was there something else going on out of view?
Since she’s being made public no reason not to ask the tough questions.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@1 Having met her, I can attest that she is infinitely more charming, personable, and intelligent than you.

“Her governing style raises a lot of hard questions.” — Steve Haycox, University of Alaska history professor

Roger Rabbit spews:
” … Palin runs an administration that puts a premium on loyalty and secrecy. The governor and her top officials … use personal e-mail accounts for state business … to circumvent public-records subpoenas.”
(Quoted from Seattle Times under fair use)
Roger Rabbit spews:
“Rick Steiner, a University of Alaska professor, sought e-mails of state scientists who had examined the effect of global warming on polar bears. … An administration official told Steiner that it would cost $468,784 to process his request. … ‘Their secrecy is off the charts,’ Steiner said.”
(Quoted from Seattle Times under fair use)
Roger Rabbit spews:
” … [L]ast May, Wasilla blogger Sherry Whitstine, who chronicles Palin’s career with an astringent eye, answered her phone and an assistant to the governor was on the line ….
‘You should be ashamed!’ Ivy Frye, the assistant, told her. ‘Stop blogging. Stop blogging right now.'”
(Quoted from Seattle Times under fair use)
Roger Rabbit spews:
“Gov. Sarah Palin lives by the maxim that all politics is … personal. … [W]hen there was a vacancy for director of the state Division of Agriculture, she appointed high-school classmate Franci Havemeister to the $95,000-a-year job. The former real-estate agent, one of at least five high-school classmates hired by the governor, cited her childhood love of cows as a qualification.”
(Quoted from Seattle Times under fair use)
Roger Rabbit spews:
“She surrounded herself with figures drawn from her personal life — former high-school classmates, people she had known since grade school and fellow churchgoers. … The Wasilla High School yearbook archive now doubles as a veritable directory of state government.”
(Quoted from Seattle Times under fair use)
Roger Rabbit spews:
“She tapped a Wasilla assemblyman, Talis Colberg, as her attorney general … Palin appointed [John] Bitney, a former junior-high bandmate, as her legislative director and tapped another classmate, Joe Austerman, to manage the office of economic development …. When a board recommended closing a state-owned dairy …, Palin responded to farmers’ protests by ousting board members and installing her real-estate agent, Kristan Cole, as chairman.”
(Quoted from Seattle Times under fair use)
Roger Rabbit spews:
“Last summer, state House Speaker John Harris, a Republican, picked up his phone and heard Todd Palin’s voice. The governor’s husband wanted to know why Harris had hired John Bitney, a high-school classmate of the Palins, as his chief of staff. Gov. Palin had fired him …. ‘I understood from the call that Todd wasn’t happy with me hiring John and he’d like to see him not there,’ Harris said. ‘The Palin family gets upset at personal issues. And … they want to strike back.'”
(Quoted from Seattle Times under fair use)
Roger Rabbit spews:
“Many lawmakers, Democrats and Republicans alike, described Palin as a leader missing in action. She has spent 312 nights at her Wasilla home, 600 miles from the capital, according to state records. Some legislators became so frustrated that they took to wearing yellow ‘Where’s Sarah?’ pins.”
(Quoted from Seattle Times under fair use)
Roger Rabbit spews:
“Palin … walks the national stage as a small-town foe of ‘good old boys’ politics and a champion for ethics reform. But an examination of the … record finds that her visceral style and penchant for attacking critics — she sometimes calls opponents ‘haters’ — contrasts with her public image. She has pursued vendettas, fired those who crossed her and sometimes blurred the line between government and personal grievance, according to public records and interviews with 60 Republican and Democratic legislators and local officials.”

The more you find out about Palin, the more she resembles Dick Cheney.

“ANCHORAGE — At least 500 protesters turned out Saturday for a rally against Gov. Sarah Palin’s candidacy for vice president.”

Roger Rabbit Commentary: Not everyone in Alaska loves Sarah Barracuda — or likes living under her iron thumb.
Roger Rabbit spews:
I could write the fishwrapper’s endorsement editorial myself. It will go like this:
“While we are dismayed by the dishonesty of McCain’s attack ads, his refusal to debate the serious issues facing our nation, and his running mate’s glaring lack of character and qualifications, we endorse John McCain for president because we feel he best represents the change so sorely needed in Washington D.C.”
Translation: McCain is for repealing the inheritance tax, and Obama isn’t.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Palin Camp Lied About Claimed Iraq Visit
“The Boston Globe reports that the Alaska governor never went to Iraq”
“WASHINGTON – The question of whether Sarah Palin has ever been to Iraq pushed Obama aides Saturday to accuse the McCain campaign of outright lies ….
“Palin made a well-documented trip to Kuwait and Germany last year to visit U.S. troops …. On Saturday, a Palin aide told The Associated Press the governor also set foot in Iraq during her July 2007 trip to see members of the Alaska National Guard…. The aide … said Palin visited a “military outpost” on the Iraq side of the Kuwait/Iraq border.
“That answer appears to contradict one provided to The Boston Globe, which reported Saturday that McCain-Palin aides had twice revised their description of Palin’s visit to Iraq.
“The newspaper said unnamed aides initially explained that Palin had visited a ‘military outpost’ inside Iraq. …
“Lt. Col. Dave Osborn, commander of the 3d Battalion, 207th Infantry of the Alaska National Guard, … said Palin did not cross in Iraq. ‘You have to have permission to go …,’ Osborn told the newspaper ….”

I’m sure glad I don’t live in Alaska! It looks like the mayor and her hubby are creating a miniature Nazi state up there complete with ‘enemies’ lists.

I think she is a cute, friendly, happy young woman, but I would hardly call that an “interview.” But I’m still glad you posted it. It’s always nice to see attractive women.

25 dead in commuter train crash. Operator may have been texting friend before or during crash.
While our Sound Transit (Seatac to Downtown via Rainier Valley) system won’t share rails with freight trains, like the LA system, it will be crossing roads. Roads where there may be stalled cars or buses or trucks. And it will also be sharing track/roadway with buses in the transit tunnel. What measures has ST taken to ensure the operator can’t and won’t be talking on his cell phone or texting while operating the light rail train?
As far as I can tell, they haven’t taken any.
Troll spews:
If this Michelle woman, were, let’s say the daughter of a hated Republican, maybe the daughter of Sarah Palin, and Goldy did this same interview with her, can you imagine the difference in tone his post would take?
It would proably read something like this:

Goldy spews:
Troll @21,
Nice try, troll. On the at-grade portions of the line, the light rail train will be following the same rules of the roads as the buses… and that means the same speed limits and traffic lights as well.
Troll spews:
@23
Goldy, I know that. What I’m concerned about are operators who aren’t following the rules of the roads. Who may run red lights because they were distracted by talking or texting on their cell phones.
I took a tour of the ST LINK train. The driver is alone, separated from view from the passengers by a door with a pull down shade in a small forward compartment.
After this crash down in LA, this kind of arrangement concerns me. Perhaps if the driver were more visible, he’d be less likely to talk or text on his cell phone.
So while I agree under out system is would be impossible to smash head-on into a freight trains, it would be possible to: Smash into a stalled car, bus, truck, and even smash into a broken down ST light rail train!
What I’m asking is are there any safeguards in place which will deter ST train operators from being on their cells phones?
YLB spews:
LMAO @ Troll!!!
Gotta any new “demands” this morning troll?
Do you really believe we’ll fucking listen to a cretin like you?
The eye is on your phony “progressive liberalism”!
The reality being that you’re a toolbag for the right wing.
michael spews:
Troll,
Car wrecks kill around 40K people a year. What are we doing to stop the portion of those wrecks that are caused by distracted drivers?
Trains do have the occasional spectacular pileup, but they are safer than cars.
michael spews:
Nice to see an interview with a politician’s daughter that isn’t known for her drinking, partying or getting knocked up at 16.
Marvin Stamn spews:
You know the obama campaign is crashing when the good people that supported hillary are pointing out the bias in the media against palin.
One of the commenters pointed out the difference in the questions. They also pointed out the mood of charles gibson, lighting, camera angles, etc.
http://www.hillaryclintonforum.....hp?t=29535
Of course there’s no liberal bias in the media.
Troll spews:
@26
Michael, let’s say you’re a Safety Director of Sound Transit. And you are tasked with coming up with ways of ensuring the future operators of ST trains do not talk or text on their cell phones while operating LINK light rail trains.
So what you said @26 is the solution or decision you’d take to your bosses? Trains are safer than cars, and besides, car drivers get distracted too, so there’s absolutely nothing we can do?
I would fire you if that’s how you think.
Marvin Stamn spews:
We don’t know that for a fact yet. Michelle hasn’t had the media doing 24/7 research on her. And with her mommy being a democrat, the liberal biased media won’t.
Troll spews:

Or being sexually molested by her father, Bill, when she was a pre-teen.
JARDIN spews:
Well – this is the new standard – is she a virgin?
If not, is she pregnant?
If so, where is the daddy?
Fair is fair. Mommy is a Gov.
Where is Kos when we need them?

This crash in LA will ignite 50 billion in damage suits … and tragic to boot. What a careless idiot.
And where is the confidence in serious human operators who control life or death?
Sad all the way around.
Troll spews:
Remember this Sound Transit LINK Light Rail riders…
When you’re on the train, there may be a stalled light rail train up ahead, but the driver of the train you are on may not see it because he is up in his compartment texting friend.
Sound Transit, in its wisdom, thought it best to put the driver completely out of view from the passengers. So if he does decide to text a friend while driving the train, he knows no one will see him do it and call up to complain.

@19 (continued) What’s there to say about Michelle Gregoire? She’s pretty, smart, well educated, and responsible. There’s not much else to say about her, certainly not enough to keep a whole thread going. She’s, er, boring as hell (in a good way) and not at all like those Republican “family values” kids who constantly make tabloid headlines.
Troll spews:
@36
Roger, Democrats are the party of values more than Republicans right? Then would you do me a favor and look up something for me? Would you look up the 25 largest U.S. cities with the highest homicide rates and tell me what percentage have Democratic mayors?
Mark1 spews:
She sounds arrogant and out of touch just like her Mommy. Shocker, I know. Pulling your pud over yet another ditzy blonde again Goldy? Get laid already, this is getting pathetic; even for you.
Mr. Cynical spews:
Hey Rog–
Your desperate posting of anti-Palin BS is having zero effect. You Leftists blew it by attacking the woman’s family and her right/ability to run.
You LEFTIST anger has probably cost O-blah-blah the election. Many thanks..
Please don’t ever grow up.
Mr. Cynical spews:
Rog–
When you go on your overposting tirade, perhaps 2 people read all your pablum.
Anger tends to wash away common sense.
You and your ilk have take taken a sure thing election and stumbled into the trap with Palin. You cannot undo the damage….no matter how many “cut-and-paste” fringe lunatic left Blogs you quote.
You are making yourself crazier!!
Mr. Cynical spews:
L’il Chris is arrogant & out of touch like her 39-year government employee mommy.
You KLOWNS think perhaps Chris should have stayed home and been more of a mother to her??
I mean you are sooooooo worried about Palin’s family and all. Chris has been on the public dole for 39 years and is clueless that increasing spending by $8 BILLION in the face of a recession has undesirable consequences….and hasn’t a clue how to clean up her mess.
PU spews:
HEY MR C DID YOU NOTICE NO MORE TALK ABOUT THE POLLS IN THE GOV RACE HAHAHA.
