God I LOVE this guy. I really hope that the rest of the GOP decides to make him their idea man too. All you have to do is let him talk and we win.
I can see it now – if Dino’s man could have done a commentary on the Nazi trials, he would have blamed the lawyers for the Jews who were murdered by Publican hero and Bush family friend Adolf Hitler.
Actually, there’s a big flap in Los Angeles right now over the archdiocese coughing up over $600 million in settlement payments, because it’s viewed by many as a means to protect Cardinal Mahoney from taking personal, public responsibility for the whole sorry mess. (This would presumably include his resignation, and possibly he himself being prosecuted as an accessory.)
Pedophiles are extremely dangerous people who, once identified, need to be locked away forever.
As long as there is a decent review process to deal with the inevitable human errors.

I Googled Mr. Guzzo. According to his bio on The Daily Voice of Reason, he was the managing editor for the PI — has co-authored books with Dixie Lee Ray, and has held all kinds of other mainstream positions. What does this say about the relationship of “the mainstream” and the marginal?
Today’s voice of reason argues against evolution.
It’s like watching the Republican Party in WA crumble in its own contradictions. Forward WA says it’s “focused on state-level issues such as improving the business climate.” A business climate in WA characterized by denial of evolution and climate change and — judging from this video — placing a higher priority on protecting a church than protecting children … that’s very attractive.
What we’re seeing, maybe, is a process where the people of Washington state are deciding whether they’d like to have a politics that is sane or insane.
Guzzo truly has no need to consider reality before jumping to conclusions. The Catholic Church has not only contested the various sex claims, but has done so in many cases with aggression that seems less than Christian. Cases where statutes of limitation have passed have been dismissed (many states extend statutes of limitation for child sexual abuse victims). Cases of questionable merit have been vigorously defended. Does Guzzo actually think there are parades of people–mostly males–who want to publicly claim to be victims of sexual abuse for the offchance of collecting something? He’s nuts. The attorneys representing these people are doing a public service. The Catholic Church has covered up and excused egregious acts for far too long. The time for accountability has come. The reason the church has settled claims is the same any other defendant settles a civil claim–to reduce financial exposure.
Lou Guzzo held those “mainstream” positions a long, long time ago, when he presumably had far more functioning brain cells.
The real issue here is that for Dino Rossi to allow Guzzo to act as a spokesman for something with his name on it calls Mr. Rossi’s judgement into serious question.
I give him credit for his passion for the church.
That said, congregations will have to decide for themselves what they will do to the Catholic Church. After all, it’s not the lawyers fault that pedophiles were able to “hide” and have “sanctuary” within the priesthood. Congregations will have to decide if it’s in their individual best interest to support the church with donations…
Personally, I feel that sex crimes, especially those against children need greater discussion and action on the legislative level. We should demand these pedophiles, wherever they come from, receive the harshest penalties, including imprisonment for life..
The Catholic Church and Churches in general need to face the music for their decisions to put the welfare of the church above that of innocent children.
Now they pay.

Well-stated. Churches that cause harm to their youngest and most vulnerable members really should not evade responsibility by falling back on lawyer-bashing.
While bashing a lawyer is good fun, sex crimes against children should not be used as a tool for a good bashing.
The church needs to hear the choir, quit plugging it’s ears, and do the right thing.
Put all those priest together in a large 1 acre hole, cover it with black plastic (make a dome), give them 2 santicans, and let them play with each other. Ohhh I forgot 1 item, the “dome” is in arizona….

I think we should throw Lou Guzzo in the hole with them. Maybe after getting sodomized a few times, he might sing a different tune. I doubt it, though. He doesn’t seem capable of changing his mind.

You are, of course, correct. There ain’t anybody anywhere of any persuasion who could get it up for Lou Guzzo. Still, he deserves to get sodomized.
On the other hand, he might enjoy it, so maybe not so much.
