On Friday, I called in to KUOW’s Weekday program. The second hour features a journalist round table, where the likes of Danny Westneat and Knute Berger talk about whatever it is that they talk about.
Having commented on Westneat’s column about the worst piece of public art in the city, I felt obliged to call in.
(You can find the program here, or on iTunes. It’s free! Fast-forward to the 41 minute, 10 second mark.)
I have not, nor has anyone else, ever claimed that removing the bench will solve the problems of Belltown. The “artinistas” of Seattle, who dump godawful public art on my sidewalks, can go suck lemon.
[UPDATE] Here’s the bench in question:

Your suggestion to fast-forward to the 41 minute mark presupposes that your opinion on public art is of interest.
It isn’t.
GS spews:
I just love the fact that this piece of wonderful art, is within sight of the 6 million dollar self flushing PRIVATE drug dens and houses of prostitution they like to call public toilets.
And to top that off
They do not work, they are not self cleaning enough, (probably can’t flush and dispose all those needles ets) so they have to be cleaned by hand several times per day and an additional extra cost.
I understand many would now rather relieve themselves on a the famous artistic bench that Will points to, which was placed within sight of these million dollar boondoggles.
Two examples of pure waste in the Emerald city I used to call my home. I won’t spend a nickel in that city again, until the mismanagement changes.
I won’t miss Seattle, because I know one day it will come to it’s senses and the management will get flushed!
Until then, I’ll spend my $$ elsewhere!
Puddybud spews:
That “art” seems to be in a no parking zone so they are using it to wait for the bus!
Will spews:
@ 4
I was there. There was no bus-waiting going’ on.
SeattleJew spews:
Will
You gotta move to a real neighborhood where the city doesn’t need to create articical neighborhood thingies .. like Fremont!
Hey is that art or a bench?
bridgewater spews:
@ 6 “Hey is that art or a bench?”
I think is see a contrabass basoon in there somewhere, maybe it’s music.
samdinista spews:
Next time I go downtown I’ll swing by this piece to see if there is something interesting design element the photo doesn’t show, but based on the photo I’d have to say calling it art is itself a bit of artistic license. From what I can see in the photo, it barely qualifies as an ugly bench.
SeattleJew spews:
Maybe it is Arnt Art? You know like the idiotic hammered man?
HarryBrem1701 spews:
Looks like a plumber and carpenter took, drank , or smoked something and came up with that. Sigh. Very very uninspired.
Art is something of beauty to leave to your posperity. I wouldnt leave that to my worst enemy.
