I’ll say to you that, one of the things I’ve had for a hunch that we’ll see if it plays out: I think Washington Republicans felt ripped off when they lost their governor’s race. I think there’s an intensity of voter interest both in the U.S. Senate seat as well as some of the House seats.
Say, how’d that “we wuz robbed” theory work out for the national Democrats in 2002 and 2004?
If the NRCC is paying attention, you’d better not sit on your tail end and expect things to run their regular course. Given Rove’s past history, along with that of recent local Republican strategy, I would expect the following:
1. While everyone is putting King County elections under a microscope, look out for Republican shananigans in the elections in other counties.
2. Expect a last-minute challenge to thousands of registered voters in King, Snohomish, and Pierce county, along with threats to prosecute voters if they dare to vote.
3. Expect a last-minute smear campaign of Darcy via “unaffiliated committees” buying lots of TV air time, similar to the “swift boat” actions in 2004. It will take weeks to trace the money, and by then the election will be over.
Clarification: Numbers 1 & 2 have more to do with the state-wide Cantwell/McGavick campaingn, than they do with Darcy/Reichart campaign in the 8th. I still expect # 3 to be applied in the 8th. But Reichart may still benefit from the other strategies.

How could it happen? In Seattle, of all places, a city of moderation and diversity? On Friday, July 28, a man barged into the offices of the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle. It is alleged that, armed with two handguns, Naveed Afzal Haq, 30, killed one woman and wounded five others.
And so the War on Terror comes to liberal Seattle, at the very heart of the congressional district of “Baghdad” Jim McDermott. Although Seattle is the very enemy of “hate,” Haq will not be prosecuted for a hate crime, according toSeattle Times reporters. He will be prosecuted under state murder laws.
That’s as it should be. The hate crime laws were designed with right-wing militias and gay-bashers in mind. They were never intended to be used against Muslim hatemongers and Jew-baiters.

Right now, the minimum wage is $5.15 an hour. Except for workers who rely on tips, this is the least amount of money an employer is allowed to pay somebody they have employed legally. The argument that is always trotted out for raising it is that this is not a “living wage.” How is a single mother supposed to raise a family on $5.15 an hour? That’s what we always hear from politicians. With that in mind, it’s time for some insensitivity training when it comes to the minimum wage.
First of all, if you are trying to raise a family on $5.15 an hour, you are a loser. Entry-level jobs that pay minimum wage are not meant for somebody trying to raise a family. They’re meant for kids in school or adults with minimum job skills. Basically people trying to get out and earn a little extra money. It’s not meant to support a family. If you have kids and $5.15 an hour is the best you can do, it is your own fault that you brought those kids into this world without the means to provide for them.
It is not the job of an employer to step in and cover for the irresponsibility of some fool that thinks they can raise a family without any job skills.
Second, what happens when the minimum wage is raised? Prices for the goods and services provided by those workers rise right along with their wages. If a restaurant employs 10 people at $5.15 an hour and the minimum wage goes up to $6, then guess what? That means the hourly labor costs of that restaurant just went up $8.50. Either some people are fired or the prices go up. That’s how it works.
There is one more argument the left never seems to be able to counter. Why raise the minimum wage to only $6 or $7 an hour? Why not $10? $12? Surely it takes at least $20 an hour to raise a family, so why not make the minimum wage $20 an hour? Just think of all the people we could lift out of poverty if we were to raise the minimum wage to $20 … or even more? If any of you are successful in getting an answer to that question, let me know.
Another question — why won’t the media explain the union connection to all of this? Many union contracts out there have a clause in them that ties minimum union wages to an index based on the minimum wage. When the minimum wage goes up … so do these union wages. Now you understand why unions are behind this increase.
Oh .. one more thing. I’m still looking in our Constitution for some provision that allows the Imperial Federal Government to set wages between private employers and private employees. Can’t find it.
This just in – REPUBLICAN LA COUNTY SHERIFF tried to cover up Anti-Semite Gibson’s hate crimes. Christian film maker Gibson’s father had ties to the SS and Gibson himself was accused 18 months ago of being anti-semitic. This latest incident proves he is and Christians should be distancing themselves from Gibby but they won’t since they too are secretly anti-semites.
Regarding GOP tactics, a group of Dems are working together to identify the most republican areas in the 8th and around the state where we plan to challenge voters as a matter of course, much the same way the rethugs did last year. We will do last minute voter challenges to whole republican districts much the way Vance and his SS troopers tried to do to us in the last election. We have to stoop to their level or we will be defeated. Don’t kid yourselves for a minute. They’re crooks and we can’t win playing fair against crooks.

REP at 11: says that you are a “loser” if your previous job was “outsourced”, and you are now doing the best you can to support your family and stay off the welfare rolls, perhaps even working two jobs at minimum wage. Apparantly he isn’t aware of, or doesn’t care, about the principle of “wage slippage” whereby well-trained employees are seeing their jobs dissapear or reduced to minimum wage, without benefits, by company executives who want to increase the value of their stock options in time for the next quarterly strike point. Remember that, despite all the talk about “economic opportunity”, this is how Republicans really view you: if you don’t have enough money to be of value to them, then you are a “loser” and unworthy of their consideration.
Note that a hard worker making minimum wage is a “loser” to them. A lazy heir who parties on the beach and casually makes a living off their great-granddaddy’s stock portfolio is, to them, a “producer”.
