If you read this blog with any regularity, you know that Goldy’s show on KIRO got the ax not too long ago. KIRO dumped all of their weekend live and local talk not too long ago. While this might be new to local talk radio, it’s nothing new to commercial music stations.
The dirty details:
KNDD-FM/107.7 laid off two staff members and is making a style change in its midday show. Gone from the modern/alternative rock station are assistant program director Jim Keller and midday host DJ No Name.
The new midday show is “Radio Impulse,” in which listeners are encouraged to use e-mails and phone text messages to request songs and get responses on whether and when that request will be played. The interactive show is an attempt “to come up with a midday show that speaks to our audience,” said Jerry McKenna, Entercom’s vice president and market manager.
Radio stations all over the country are dumping real live deejays in favor of these mass-produced, low overhead syndicated programming like “Radio Impulse.” In a drive to better relate to their younger audience, radio stations are trying to be more like an iPod, all the while not realizing that people listen to the radio because it’s not like their iPod.
As a long time The End listener, I’m pretty much done with the station. I grew up with Marco Collins, stuck with them through their fascination with “rap metal,” and stuck with them after they fired No Name the first time. But I’m done. They’re killing everything I like about radio, everything worth turning off my iPod for.

Dear Heavens Will, thanks for bringing this atrocity to HA.
KNDD has gone from 24/7 live and local to 4hours a day of live and local Monday through Friday. I don’t count lazlo’s show because he’s from Kansas and there is no way a putz from Kansas can properly deliver a radio program to a Seattle audience.
DJ No Name is putting his own show on over at the Main Stage on April 9th.
What’s worse about Marco is he’s lurking around Seattle somewhere. According to his myspace page, he moved back up here.
Entercom has a monopoly on the top rock radio stations in this market. They treat The End like ass in order for KISW to dominate. It’s sickening.

Goes to show you what a ‘tard I am, the whole point of writing this post was to plug No Name’s show at The Mainstage. I’m adding the show details right now.

“KIRO dumped all of their live and local talk not too long ago.”
Monson, Ross, and Ron & Don will be thrilled to know.

I guess this means the Sunday morning Resurrection Jukebox show on The End will be gone…

On the weekends, I meant to say.
Ian spews:
Wow… no more DJ No Name? No more Resurrection Jukebox? No reason to keep KNDD on my radio preset in the car anymore. I can’t stand Lazlo for more than a minute.
Sad. :(
Jane Balough's Dog spews:
You guys are such typical white people. hehehehehehe
The Real Mark spews:
That’s right… No more Resurrection Flashback Sunday.
BLAME LAZLO. He’s the self-loving idiot calling those shots. No more Keller, no more NoName, no more Bill Reid, no more Dick Rosetti.
The thing with clusters of radio stations is that they’re designed with a core station (KISW) and then flanker stations targeted at complementary demographics. When there are budget cuts, guess who takes one for the team?
Best thing would be to campaign to FIRE LAZLO.
Marco Collins spews:
Yeah… things in radio are changing drastically. I just moved back to Seattle and might appear back on the airwaves here… if things don’t get better, I might just have to continue doing podcasts!
proud leftist spews:
Ain’t no doubt we’re headed toward an official newscast, an official playlist. Like Granma in Cuba or Tass in the old Soviet Union (I understand those were print mediums), our media is not doing well. Corporate consolidation of the local airwaves cannot be a good thing. There is great music, commentary, and prose out there that will never make the air because of the cost-cutting capitalism of corporate radio stations. Of course, they don’t recognize that market share will decline as they cut costs.

Recently took the car in for maintenance. Had to rent one for the day. Turned the car’s radio to “The End”.
In the drive from Renton to Seattle, there was not one bit of music. It was all just random talk. That’s not what I turn the radio on to hear.

Thank God for saving the airwaves!
And before Roger “Where’s the free handouts?” Rodent has multiple mouth-spewings or YLB “I’m self-admitted unemployed and live in my parents basement” say a word-you are hereby dismissed. Pay taxes=people listen. Moochers=people don’t. Goodnight.

Troll spews:
Bring back Robin and Maynard!!!
The Real Mark spews:
PL @ 10
Lazlo, who calls the shots for KNDD (and pollutes the airwaves there, too), is a raging Lefty. If there is an “official” anything in the media, the misinformation will far more likely lean Left than Right.
Broadway Joe spews:
Amen to bringing back Robin & Maynard. Radio used to be fun. Anyone remember “Mister Bruce’s Neighborhood” when KISW was still playing music instead of the mind-numbing man-talk-radio shit that they spew forth? Before we moved south, the FM dial was so polluted with crap that the only radio station we could tolerate was JackFM, and that’s just a rebroadcast of their internet stream.
Now my wife and I each have XM in our cars, and terrestrial radio can kiss our shiny white buttocks. Not to sound like an advertisement, but we laugh our asses off to XM Comedy, I get all the sports I can handle on ESPN’s two stations (not to mention Mariners games on XM – score!). She can listen to her musical preferences on The Blend, while I turn it up to 11 with The Boneyard and Liquid Metal. And I listen to political and electoral news with POTUS 130 and Air America. There’s even NPR-style radio with Bob Edwards’ XMPR.
Terrestrial radio is dead, kiddies. Pony up the cash for the right equipment and move up to big-boy radio. And whatever you do, DO NOT GET HD-RADIO. Crap in ‘HD’ is still crap. Not to mention expensive crap.
Hannah spews:
I quit listening to the End when they dumped Andy Savage and crew….I enjoy listening to KISW and the BJ Shea Morning Experience, I know every single day on my drive into work, by the time I get there I will have a huge smile (and a sideache) from the hilarious talk show. When I want to listen to just music, the 10 disc CD changer or Sirius works for me.
Troll spews:
At least Goldy got notice he was being let go. Robin and Maynard were let go during a commercial break. The station changed formats after that commercial break, and went from being a talk format (The Buzz), to a country music station (The Wolf).
Jane Balough's Dog spews:
Why are many lefty talk shows publicly funded and right leaning shows are tremendously successful in the free market….. Ah that’s right.. no one listens to liberal drivel. Nevermind. roof roof
Troll spews:
@22,
To boil it down into very simplistic terms, I think right-leaning talk radio shows appeal to emotion, and left-leaning talk radio shows appeal to the head. And I think many people, liberals included, prefer listening to the radio for the former, rather than the latter.
Jane Balough's Dog spews:
23
If that is the case why are lefties trying to censor right wing talk???? No one on the right is trying to shut down moonbat talk.
Psssssssssssssssssssst
There went all the air out of your argument. heehehehe
