Word is they were burning the midnight oil last night at the state Office of Financial Management, before Gov. Gregoire headed out early this morning for a meeting in the other Washington. Don’t know if the two are related, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see the Democratic Governors Association appealing for a bailout package of their own. Hmm…
UPDATE:
The Pearse Edwards from the Governor’s office tells me Gregoire is in Olympia today, not DC. Oops, my bad. And…
“As for an ask of President-elect and the Congress, that would be an economic stimulus package that puts people to work and fixes our aging infrastructure. And that meeting is on Monday with her fellow governors from across the nation.”

Ha! Ann Coulter broke her jaw and her mouth is wired shut! She won’t be able to talk for 6 weeks!

I think the feds should help the states by picking up more Medicaid costs.
notaboomer spews:
please contact gov gregoire and urge her to stop the execution of darold ray stenson. washington should stand with the rest of the civilized world in opposition to the death penalty. and bonus, it’s cheaper.

Do you have any idea where the money comes from? Hint: earners who by the very nature contribute to society only to be attacked by the parasites.
stinkinrottenkid spews:
I’ll pull the switch for free.
ArtFart spews:
1 Eh? Having had my jaw wired for a similar period, I can attest that it doesn’t prevent you from speaking, but it makes it impossible to say anything without sounding angry.
In Coulter’s case, that wouldn’t make any difference.
ArtFart spews:
4 Where does the money come from? Oh, I’d say the same place as the hundreds of billions that Hanky-Panky Paulson is handing out to the well-dressed crooks that are for some reason still allowed to call themselves “bankers”.
You really haven’t been paying attention, have you?
stinkinrottenkid spews:
I don’t want any of MY money handed out to any of them. Have YOU been paying attention?

# 4, 5, & 8: I think Mark the Redneck has a new moniker.
rhp6033 spews:
What’s happening is that lots of people are heading to Washington, trying to get their share of the bailout money before it runs out. “Gov. Terminator” already has admitted that he is going to be raising taxes, but he still has to go to Washington D.C. to plead for money to keep California from going bankrupt.
So what is needed is a rational plan which has a method for assigning priority, amounts, and nature of any federal spending. But what I expect, over the next two months, is that the Bush administration will be shoveling money out the door to any Republican who says they need it, but ignoring the needs of any Democratic official. By the time Obama takes office, there isn’t going to be any money left.
K spews:
@8- then you shouldn’t have voted for Bush.
gs spews:
The Solution is very Simple, 8 Billion in new spending in the last 4 years, take it all back, and you end up with a 2 Billion dollar surplus.
All that free college, free healthcare to illegals, raises for all your Washington state buddies, 8100 new state employees.
How about having the Indian Casinos pitch in and help……..:)
ArtFart spews:
4/5/8 If that’s the case, it fits.
stinkinrottenkid spews:
11- what makes you think I voted for Bush? I vote for individuals, not according to party line.
YLB spews:

Apparently until there’s a change of occupants at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the number one priority of the United States Government (well, aside from the wars) is going to be showering the institutions that we for some reason still think of as “banks” with enough cash to allow them to continue pretending to be solvent. So far, your childrens’ childrens’ children have donated some hundreds of billions of dollars to the Rich Spoiled Executives’ Lifestyle Maintenance Project, but it’s just the beginning. These institutions have something in excess of Five TRILLION Dollars’ worth of mortgage-backed derivatives rotting in their vaults, and it’s going to take a whole lot more “green disinfectant” to drown out the stench.

I don’t gamble. I work hard for my money

I will give Gregoire credit for beginning to initiate the kinds of cuts that will be necessary to balance the budget. Let’s just hope Lisa Brown get it also that with a 40% increase in bankruptcy in this state people hardly need Tax increases.
The Seattle Times front page says “Gregoire orders $260 million more in emergency cuts”
Idiots like the Seattle Port (many of which make hundreds of thousands per year by the way, stacking their budget with an additional 11% increase in their share of our property taxes .
They cannot tax their way out of this one.
So at Least Gregoire is on the cutting bandwagon, but can she keep her troops inline.
We shall see. If she can she may have a convert here.
correctnotright spews:
@20: You may work hard but you think soft.
You spout the typical garbage of the republicans who spent us into the largest debt in history and then ruined the economy and made it the worst since Hoover.
The incompetence and corruption of the republicans is on a scale never before seen. The problem is they still haven’t learned – the republican caucus just voted FOR earmarks for the second year in a row. After being kicked out of control of the congress for corruption, they vote for earmarks two years in a row. Dumb and dumber – they are dumb and anyone who supports them is dumber. You (the aptly named stinkinrotten) parrot the republican line and fail to take responsibility for the republican actions. Typical. There is a reason you guys just lost the presidency by the largest margin in 24 years.
correctnotright spews:
Oh and stinkin rotten – you need to pay your fair share of taxes and so do the corporations that also use all those tax dodges and then ship our jobs overseas.
It is time for the rich to pay their fair share of the taxes. If you make over 250K – you SHOULD be paying more. How many yachts do those people need? The median income in this country has fallen and the typical HARD worker is making even less than they did 20 years ago – but the rich are making way more and the gap is growing. why do the CEO’s that bankrupt their companies make those millions? Do they deserve it? Hell NO!
