“Seeger lives in the hamlet of Dutchess Junction in the Town of Fishkill, NY”
Hmm, sounds to me like this guy is guilty of contributing to sprawl.
Aside from that, I believe Pete Seeger is what’s wrong with this country. He’s not a good American. He’s not even a good person.

Kspews:
Troll asshole- Fish Kill NY- history dating back to 1759. Population about 25K. Located on the Hudson, consistent with Mr. Seegers long interest in the restoration of the river.
My God I admire that woman, Tzipi Livni, the Foreign Minister of Israel.

My Left Footspews:
troll,
Crawl back under your bridge over there in Ballard.
Of all the folks who comment on this site, you are by far the most immature, uneducated, uncaring, ignorant, untruthful, vile and wretched.
Some say you don’t know any better. Some say you have no desire to know any better.
I agree with the latter group.
There is no excuse for your ignorance. It is a sin.
14
Michaelspews:
Awesome.
John Mellencamp has a great version of This Land as well.
15
Kspews:
Production was quite impressive. Moved quite a few acts through and kept on schedule. And I watched live this AM.
16
Kspews:
Bon Jovi and Betty Levette impressed me, and I don’t much like him.
17
YLBspews:
Let’s see the death toll in Israel/Gaza stand at 13 Israelis vs over 1000 Palestinians including many women/children and a hospital bombed?
Sounds like asymmetrical warfare to me.

Tom Fossspews:
The finest version of this song was an ensemble effort featuring Pete and Arlo among others, and led by the incomparable Odetta, God rest her soul. She sang at a memorial to Woody, a few months before she sang at the Lincoln Memorial right before Dr King gave his “I have a dream” speech.
As a lead in to Tuesday, I say go rent the Seeger documentary, its magnificent. Yes, you would learn that his focus on peace and nonproliferation of nukes, plus his robust efforts on behalf of unions got him arrested and branded a commie by Troll’s fascist friends.
But thats not all. He founded the Riverkeepers and saved the Hudson river, and started a program that is saving waterways all over America, including Puget Sound, from Troll’s friends. His contribution to “spawl” was to build his own small house, without running water and power for a long, long time, living simply and raising his children in the same fashion. He was out on the streets against Vietnam and got arrested, and was out again speaking out against the invasion of Iraq in 2002 and 2003 and was nearly arrested again. He is a true American hero.
What a nice tribute.
BTW, get The Boss and his CD and DVD “The Seeger sessions.” It will get you singing and smiling if you have a heart at all. We know who that leaves out.

It is a place where thousands of active and unrestrained horse people meet, date, become friends and more in the pursuit of the same dream as you have.
@22: I want to remind eveyone on HA I was only the tenth person to diagnose troll with a delusional personality disorder, delusions of grandeur and schizophrenia.
@23: You mean inappropriate comments like these:
Jeff Schlaeger, Mason High School’s psychologist, said “inappropriate comments” occurred around election week when doctored pictures of Obama appeared at the school, including “derogatory caricatures” of him dressed like a terrorist and signs that read “Obama ’08/Biden ’09.”
Threatening the President of the US is a federal offence.
The latest polls (CBS/NYT)’
Obama approval rating: 79%
Bush approval rating: 22%
Says it all – the right wingnut trolls are a 20% minority.
Schools are forbidding ANY anti-Obama opinions from students. Student cannot voice any negative opinion about him at all. To do so will be considered hate speech, and will make students of color feel “unwelcome or uncomfortable.” Students are warned not even to say that they “disagree with an Obama decision or policy.”
26
stevespews:
@23 You quote the article as saying, “To say anything against Obama will be considered hate speach.”
Too bad for you that the article you linked to didn’t say that. Perhaps you’re simply confused and are quoting some deranged, wing-nut radio guy you listen to who makes up shit without regard to the truth.
27
Mark1spews:
Funny Jon, I looked up douche-bag in Webster’s and saw your face. Intolerant little ignoramous you are.
28
correctnotrightspews:
@25: Obviously, that is overkill and probably an incorrect quote. But hey, you go with it. I quoted the actual school official.
Given the level of hate diatribe on here at at the wingnut sites (sound politics comes to mind), it is not too hard to believe that that kind of slander or outright bigotry might (should) be banned.
29
correctnotrightspews:
@27: Nice Mark – now you can go back to your crayons. Try drawing between the lines. Given your third grade level comments, I would bet that would be difficult for you to do.
From the Woody Guthrie website, these are the “subversive” lyrics that Pete and Bruce restored to This Land Is Your Land:
As I went walking I saw a sign there
And on the sign it said “No Trespassing.”
But on the other side it didn’t say nothing,
That side was made for you and me.
In the shadow of the steeple I saw my people,
By the relief office I seen my people;
As they stood there hungry, I stood there asking
Is this land made for you and me?
Nobody living can ever stop me,
As I go walking that freedom highway;
Nobody living can ever make me turn back
This land was made for you and me.
Those lyrics belong in the song. Woody would be proud of his friend Pete, but not at all surprised that he’d restore those words to their rightful place in his anthem. And he’d be thrilled to know that Pete lived to see, and hold an honored place in the celebration of, the events of this week.

Plenty of video of this incredible event is still available. E.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-u4PkFn2NJc . Check it out. And the follow-up finale, America the Beautiful, by Beyonce and the whole group is awesome as well.

Loved the Seeger performance! I saw him at the Central Park Bandshell at a free concert in 1971 or so. The man is amazing.
He did leave out one of my favorite verses, though (one done by Woody many times). I can see how it might not be appropriate for the occasion:
This land is your land, but it was my land;
Until we sold you Manhattan Island.
From the redwood forests, to the gulf stream waters…
This land was stole by you from me.
Pete will be 90 this coming May; glad to see he’s still active.
