Pete Seeger is an American hero. It is wonderful he has lived to see this day.

The finest version of this song was an ensemble effort featuring Pete and Arlo among others, and led by the incomparable Odetta, God rest her soul. She sang at a memorial to Woody, a few months before she sang at the Lincoln Memorial right before Dr King gave his “I have a dream” speech.
As a lead in to Tuesday, I say go rent the Seeger documentary, its magnificent. Yes, you would learn that his focus on peace and nonproliferation of nukes, plus his robust efforts on behalf of unions got him arrested and branded a commie by Troll’s fascist friends.
But thats not all. He founded the Riverkeepers and saved the Hudson river, and started a program that is saving waterways all over America, including Puget Sound, from Troll’s friends. His contribution to “spawl” was to build his own small house, without running water and power for a long, long time, living simply and raising his children in the same fashion. He was out on the streets against Vietnam and got arrested, and was out again speaking out against the invasion of Iraq in 2002 and 2003 and was nearly arrested again. He is a true American hero.
What a nice tribute.
BTW, get The Boss and his CD and DVD “The Seeger sessions.” It will get you singing and smiling if you have a heart at all. We know who that leaves out.

Schools are forbidding ANY anti-Obama opinions from students. Student cannot voice any negative opinion about him at all. Loved the Seeger performance! I saw him at the Central Park Bandshell at a free concert in 1971 or so. The man is amazing.
He did leave out one of my favorite verses, though (one done by Woody many times). I can see how it might not be appropriate for the occasion:
