Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Nowhere) said AIG executives should follow the Japanese example and kill themselves. His press secretary clarified that Sen. Grassley didn’t say the executives should kill themselves. To wit:
Sen. Grassley: “I would suggest the first thing that would make me feel a little bit better toward them [is] if they’d follow the Japanese example and come before the American people and take that deep bow and say, I’m sorry, and then either do one of two things: resign or go commit suicide. And in the case of the Japanese, they usually commit suicide before they make any apology.”
“Grassley spokesman Casey Mills said the senator isn’t calling for AIG executives to kill themselves, but said those who accept tax dollars and spend them on travel and bonuses do so irresponsibly.”

Did you see Democratic Senator Dodd had an amendment in the Stimulus which absolves and exempts bonus payments paid before Feb 2009 for AIG and others? Looks like they new this months ago.
While the Senate constructed the $787 billion stimulus last month, Dodd unexpectedly added an executive-compensation restriction to the bill. That amendment provides an “exception for contractually obligated bonuses agreed on before Feb. 11, 2009,” which exempts the very AIG bonuses Dodd and others are seeking to tax. The amendment is in the final version and is law. Preznit Obama signed it.
Also, Sen. Dodd was AIG’s largest single recipient of campaign donations during the 2008 election cycle with $103,100. See opensecrets.org.

Just to summarize Puddy’s reasoning here, when Republican votes helped with passage of the Civil Rights Act, Democrats deserve no credit for the Civil Rights Act. When Republican votes help passage of the Obama budget, Democrats deserve all the credit for the budget. Put another way, Puddy is saying that Republicans own the Civil Rights Act, Democrats own the budget. Hmm, we seem to be dealing with absolutes. No consistancy in Puddy’s reasoning. Instead, whatever line of reasoning makes the Republicans look good and Democrats look bad, that’s the right line of reasoning for Puddy. Hmm, that strikes me as being situational. There is apparently no compass on board Puddy’s ship. Don’t you agree?
As for St. Patrick’s Day, my brother used to joke that the one color you don’t wear in Dublin on March 17th is Orange, but then again, if people are celebrating the Patron Saint of Ireland, I would expect the locals to be waiving Irish Flags, which is Green, White, and Orange(a little bit like Italy and France’s flag), Orange signifies the protestants, Green the Catholics and Irish, and White in the middle signifies peace.(I saw footage online of a parade in Limerick and there were people waiving Irish flags, and a few other countries, celebrating diversity in Limerick) There had not been much problems between the faiths in the Republic of Ireland since independence, it was mostly in the North, and despite a few radical splinter groups, the Troubles are behind the people of Belfast, or so they think. Recent attacks on the PSNI and British Army soldiers are testing the resolve of the vast majority of people on both sides who want peace, and are behind the Good Friday Accords.
