Mark 11:20
The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it.
Discuss.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Musta been a Republican tree. Cheap bastard. Got what it deserved.
@godwinha spews:
And the Lord sayeth unto Jeff Immelt, “May no dumbfuck investor earn a decent return from your company again, after the shitty way in which you have managed it.”
Newt Hoenikker spews:
There goes Dr. Dumbfuck calling the widows and orphans that inherited GE stock “dumbfuck investors”. Such compassion from a doctor.
So Jesus was a horticulturist? More wacky shit by the goat herders.
Allah spews:
My boy Muhammed and his crowd preferred dates to figs. They’re sweeter and can be dried to last a long time.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@4 Shit! Outsmarted by the Mooslims again! When will Christians ever learn?
Roger Rabbit spews:
@2 Granted, Immelt was a shitty manager, and Flannery has a lot of cleanup to do, but you could’ve bought GE yesterday for 30% off its 52-week high. If you wanna buy Varian’s 34 p/e and 0% yield instead, go right ahead, it’s a free country. (And YOU call ME a dumbfuck?)
Newt Hoenikker spews:
@4 Nobody here cares what your boy Muhammed and his crowd preferred. It called “Bible Study” not “Quran Study”.
Might as well be called “Misogynistic-homophobic- violence-laden-rantings-and-rambling-of-goat-herders Review” as far as I’m concerned.
The Bible, if treated as fiction, sure, a number one best seller, but then again, so was “The Shining” by Stephen King. However my favorite “good book” is Cat’s Cradle which of course provides a great commentary on science and religion, but that shouldn’t be surprise to anyone here.
Roger Rabbit spews:
More thoughts on GE, more in-depth, more skeptical. Again, answering your question.

When evaluating a stock, you should seek out divergent points of view to get a feel for how others see it. Sort of a roundtable discussion or committee approach to investment decisionmaking like the big funds use, if you will.
ArtFart spews:
@8 Basically, it’s another company selling itself off in pieces to post short-term profits and pay big bonuses to the execs. Deja Sears Holdings all over again.

Nice display of Islamophobic bigotry there, Newt Gingrich.

When evaluating a stock, you should seek out divergent points of view to get a feel for how others see it.
GE is the most-shorted industrial stock. Might be a widely divergent group of investors responsible for that, but they all think the stock is tanking.
If buying a stock well off its 52-week high appeals to you, Roger Dumbfuck Rabbit, take a good look at Sears.

I saw this post early this morning and the first thing that popped into my head about it was a Monty Python sketch. I spent about half an hour on YouTube looking for the one I had in mind. The closest one I could find was the argument clinic sketch, but it really didn’t seem totally relevant.
All I can picture out of this is Terry Jones, dressed up in rags as a dowdy fat old peasant lady, nodding her head in agreement to Michael Palin mentioning to John Cleese about how she’d “‘eard ‘im say it alright.”
Then the trumpets play.
Jesus of course, is being played by Eric Idle.
Roger Rabbit spews:
“Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Sunday morning that ‘all 48 Democrats’ in the Senate are on board with the health care deal negotiated between Senators Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., and Patty Murray, D-Wash.
“If Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wisc., bring the bill to the floor in both chambers, it would ‘pass overwhelmingly,’ Schumer, D-N.Y., claimed during an interview on NBC’s ‘Meet The Press.’
“After numerous attempts at repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act failed to pass Congress, the two leaders of the Senate’s Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, Sen. Alexander and Sen. Murray, started creating an outline for legislation that’s aimed at stabilizing the health insurance markets.”

If only corporations were like skunks it would be easy to figure out where to put your money. Though Febreeze would be a great investment.

Is GE a dead Skunk. I don’t know, but some folks could be nose blind.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@9 I don’t think GE is another Sears. GE is profitable; Sears is bleeding red ink. GE has thriving businesses; Sears is a dinosaur. GE is a bloated conglomerate that needs slimming down, but its profit and cash flow issues are temporary. Sears is likely heading for bankruptcy and liquidation; GE’s stock is undervalued if GE returns to its normal profitability.
Mark Adams spews:
@15 Ok how about just the facts. Even if it passes the Senate, and it may it will not pass the house. Mr Shumer if is a really big one. And will the fella in the White House actually sign it. He may, but usually when the guy up there does what he’s doing with executive orders you know he’s going to reach for the VETO pen.
Nor will Patty’s proposal be single payer.
Still Trump has found a way to get the Democrats dance in Congress. Is the President on her Thanksgiving day card list? Christmas card list?
Roger Rabbit spews:
@11 Shorting GE made sense a week ago. Nobody’s saying differently. If you believe shorting GE still makes sense, then put your money where your mouth is and short it tomorrow morning. Bet you won’t.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@16 All corporations are skunks, and the people who run them are self-serving greedy bastards. We make money from their stocks in spite of them.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@18 I didn’t say it would pass. I said Ryan, McConnell, and Trump have no excuse for not passing it. Of course they won’t, because it fixes Obamacare, instead of destroying it.
Mark Adams spews:
@17 Once upon a time mom and dad would go to Sears to buy that GE washer or dryer. Once upon a time in America retail was different from today. Even then GE was more than a manufacturer of consumer goods. Their products included the dynamos in Hoover dam that powered Las Vegas.
Here is HA folks chance to make America great again. Just go to Sears and buy a washer, a dryer, a fridge, something. Go right after the Seahawks game. Had a beer too many get Uber. Yes Mrs. Rabbit this is the best time to insist it’s time for a new air conditioning unit here in Seattle. Or a freezer. Does GE still make crock pots?
Roger Rabbit spews:
@11 “take a good look at Sears”
What do you take me for, a dumbfuck like you?
Mark Adams spews:
@21 Best it dies in committee then, and when you control the House or the Senate you can make that happen. No excuses.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@2 “Does GE still make crock pots?”
Haier bought GE’s home appliance business and the right to continue putting the GE name on them.
Mark Adams spews:
Sears is just the biggest loser in how retail has been transformed. I’m not entirely sure this is a good thing, but there are a lot of retail stores that are having serious problems transiting from the brick and mortar. In a couple of decades it will be retro to go into a retail space, and there will be a resurgence. Meanwhile Amazon just becomes more of a Monopoly, but is our AG going to do anything? Meh.
Mark Adams spews:
@25 Well good for Haier. I guess GE gets some kind of payment for the use of the name every year. I don’t see Sony, Samsung and other Asian consumer product producers getting out of the consumer market as it keeps them nimble. GE still manufactures light bulbs though.
Newt Hoenikker spews:
@10 You got it partially correct. I have a distinct disdain for all organized religion, I think I took a pretty good swipe at both Christian and Islamic faiths in a single post. Bigotry? Maybe, but I hate ’em all equally.
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: man needs religion like a fish needs a bicycle.
Newt Hoenikker spews:
I’ve been intrigued by the amount of interest and dialog with regards to my direct question to RR about GE stock.
I own both Honeywell and GE stock, won’t put all my eggs in one basket per say.
GE is no Sears, completely different establishments and businesses. GE has business units that are innovative and in high demand. They also under performing units that are not core to the company. FWIW, it is time for GE to examine everything and this is what Flannery is doing.
I find it interesting nobody has brought up Proctor and Gamble, they are also engaged in a stock issue with the Trian Group as an activist investment group putting pressure on the Board. GE has that issue to, however GE has elected to embrace Trian, P&G, not so much.
I guess we will see how it shakes out for GE. November 13 should be very interesting to say the least.
Mark Adams spews:
@20 No people who own stocks are the owners of the corporation. The owners should vote in directors who at least represent their interests and should insure the corporation will show a profit. There is a problem if the Directors allow skunks to run the corporation, especially if they operate the corporation to their own greedy ends rather than in the owners interest. True the small investors may not have enough votes to sway anyone. Then again one problem is that many funds who own significant stocks in many corporations don’t vote their stock, as they look at the market as a casino.
And one thing stock holders should be able to do is put some kind of break on salaries of officers and directors. This is the canary in the room for investors if the brake comes off. And it has in a lot of companies, and eventually companies that officers are using as their personal bank smell like a dead skunk, and with corporations that are large like Sears and GE it can take a long time. And the skunk often gets resurrected for a time, before stinking up the road yet again.
Mark Adams spews:
@28 Still Yankee traders are willing to sell bicycles to fish. Still it’s easier to get humans to buy things they don’t need. They tend to outsmart themselves. Part of the reason for religion.

Roger Rabbit spews:
@30 “No people who own stocks are the owners of the corporation.”
Tell that to the greedy bastards running the corporations. Especially the ones who file chapter 11 then keep their jobs and fat salaries and bonuses after wiping out the shareholders, creditors, suppliers, customers, and employees. Almost as bad are the ones who cut the dividend right after promising not to cut the dividend. You gotta watch out for all these fuckers. The corporate world is brimming with ’em.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@31 “Still it’s easier to get humans to buy things they don’t need. They tend to outsmart themselves. Part of the reason for religion.”
What, to make them buy things they don’t need? Then bring on the religion! I’m perfectly happy selling useless junk to morons and relieving them in the process. If God tells them to buy, buy, buy, so much the better. It keeps my stocks going up and the dividends coming in. Thanks for your business, morons! I appreciate it.
Newt Hoenikker spews:
@33 “Religion is a useful tool of social control.”
I suppose if you take with it the fact that religion is pretty good about spreading hate and inciting war and allowing racists (like the ones that want to string up Puddy due to the color of his skin) to hide behind the catch-all phrase, “God told me to do it.” Or even better, “I did it in the name of our Lord.”
Al Davis had a better slogan, “Just win, baby!” Some might even claim that many of the Oakland Raiders faithful are more devout to their team that to any sky-daddy based religion.
The Raiders in Vegas, talk about a match made in “heaven”.
Newt Hoenikker spews:
@27 and @32
My bet is GE dumps the Lighting division. Would be a shame since there is such a historical connection to Edison.
GE is betting the farm on becoming a digital company and the Industrial internet. That is why such offerings as Predix won’t be touched on Nov 13. GE has huge margins on industrial data related businesses and they are being maligned by dogs such as lighting.
GE is very secure in many high cost of entry areas, such as engines, energy, medical equipment, and additive manufacturing. I speculate they trim those to get to the core of those industries.
If you buy into the military-industrial complex, thanks to Trump and his ilk, things are looking good in that area to.

This might be the key to Bergdahl’s “naked plea”:
“Retired Senior Chief Petty Officer James Hatch is expected to testify about a leg wound on a search mission that ended his career as a Navy SEAL.
“‘Senior Chief Hatch has always said he wants him to have a fair trial and a fair sentence, with the understanding of all the suffering that he caused by trying to support his own agenda,’ said Buddy Rake, Hatch’s lawyer. He declined to say what level of punishment Hatch thinks is appropriate.
“But Rake, himself a Navy veteran, believes Bergdahl should at a minimum be deprived of an honorable discharge: ‘As you go through life you get all sorts of trophies and awards, but the most important that I’ve ever received is the one that says honorable discharge.'”
http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireS.....s-50643753
Roger Rabbit Commentary: In the military, even more than anywhere else, taking responsibility for your actions is a paramount value. So, by pleading guilty and throwing himself on the mercy of the court, Bergdahl may be trying to impress the soldiers who will be making statements to the judge, the former SEAL in particular, who seems open to the notion of mercy in exchange for Bergdahl owning up to what he did.
Bergdahl is now a convicted deserter, although he’s not a convicted traitor, except in Trump’s diseased mind. I think it’s a foregone conclusion he’ll get a dishonorable discharge. In my opinion, because his reckless actions wasted military resources, exposed other soldiers to danger and harm, and compelled the commander in chief to release five Taliban detainees in order to fulfill his duty to leave no American behind, he also should do some time.
The damage the defendant cause is always a factor in sentencing. So are mitigating circumstances. The Army has culpability in this case. It should have known Bergdahl washed out of Coast Guard training for psychological reasons, and rejected him for enlistment. Sending him to a combat zone was negligent.
The punishment also needs to be consistent with other sentences for similar offenses. Most AWOLs and desertions outside of war zones result in administrative discharges. In effect, they’re kicked out of the military. In a war zone, the maximum penalty is death or life imprisonment, but typical sentences are 2 to 5 years of confinement. In light of that, I think Bergdahl should get a sentence in the upper end of that range, say 4 or 5 years, with no credit for time in captivity because that was his own damn fault.
Trump will be upset if he isn’t shot, but who gives a shit what a draft dodger thinks.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@37 The advantages of the digital business are (1) wide moat and (2) repeat business. Once they hire you to be their digital caretaker, they can’t readily switch to another vendor. And computer-run stuff, as you know, requires constant maintenance.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Just as I support the death penalty for murderers beyond redemption, so too, I support a “death penalty” for unreformable police departments. Just disband them, terminate the entity, lay off all the staff. Send in county or state law enforcers to maintain law and order while rebuilding from scratch. Drastic and disruptive, yes, but the alternative is living with fascist cops who answer to no one, and that’s not acceptable in a free society like ours.

Decorated Cleveland police officer Tommie Griffin III, awaiting trial on rape and assault charges, cut off a GPS ankle monitor and disappeared this weekend.
Prosecutors charge that on Jan. 14, one day after discovering his girlfriend with another man in her Parma, Ohio home, 52-year-old Griffin wearing his police uniform attacked his 42-year-old girlfriend while she was sleeping in her bed, pistol whipped her with his service revolver, discharged his weapon into the mattress several times inches from her head, dragged her to the home’s basement and raped her at gunpoint.
Police investigators recovered over 60 firearms from Griffin’s home including sawed-off shotguns and machine guns. Following 90 days of paid
vacationsuspension Griffin resigned from the Cleveland police force in March. His public employee union immediately filed an administrative appeal arguing that Griffin was suffering from PTSD and was entitled to full disability hearing regardless of his resignation.Mark Adams spews:

@39 Berghdahl is not yet convicted. He has pleaded guilty. Sentencing is not complete and the court has not issued its order, therefore he is not yet convicted.
I’m surprised at the plea. It’s a gamble, a really big gamble as the Judge could uphold the guilty plea, and depending on mitigating circumstances essentially set it aside. He could also give the maximum sentence, for a case that the army should have just gone for non-judicial punishment.
Of course had there been a possibility of death, then the judge could not accept the guilty plea, and the trial would have had to proceed.
Mark Adams spews:
@41 Disbanding a police force could work if your talking about Mayberry. Here you are talking about Albuquerque, New Mexico. A city of over a half million. Whose police department is certainly larger than the county sheriff who has a responsibility to Benillo County. Since Albuquerque is the largest city in New Mexico it’s police department maybe larger than the Sheriff and State Police Departments combined. The only practical way for this to happen would be for the Governor to declare an emergency and call out the National Guard and establish marshal law. Something that no matter how bad the city cops are is so politically toxic it’s not going to happen.
Mark Adams spews:
@42 And just how does events in Cleveland effect Albuquerque and support RR argument to disband an entire police department, because it has rogue police officers. Are you suggesting these bad officers in Albuquerque should just resign? And that all bad rogue cops should just resign in department sunder any kind of investigation. How is that working out in Seattle?
