Leviticus 25:44-46
Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly.

So, Republicans can own Canadians, Mexicans, and illegals; but they can’t impose their religious laws on liberals, workers, and gays?
Roger Rabbit spews:
Does this mean an Arizona Republican legislator’s mandatory church attendance bill is ungodly? (Btw, good luck with trying to legislate moral behavior … )

@2 This is the 21st century, and we’ve had civics education for over a century now, but I guess some people still sleep through that class, or maybe they’re just incapable of learning anything about U.S. history, the Constitution, and Bill of Rights.
GOP = party of stupid and uneducated people
Roger Rabbit spews:
@2 It won’t work in any case. Lots of Republicans go to church, and look how they turn out anyway.

Aw, yes, the book of the more primitive form of hominid. Now let’s all join in a little Sunday morning ritual cannibalism.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@5 Going to church every Sunday doesn’t do them any good, so why would she expect it to make us more moral?
Ima Dunce spews:
@6 Good point. All those kiddy rapists priests went to church every Sunday. I’m sure a majority of murderers were “baptised”.

Therefore a Babe Ruth card is more valuable than even a Hank Greenberg card and a Sandy Koufax card combined?

These passages have always struck me as odd. Why would a people who have just escaped bondage be so quick to institute bondage over other human beings? Of course there is no evidence of the Hebrews ever being slaves in Egypt, and unless one was sent to the mines or quarries, being a slave was a higher status than being just a peasant or freeman and one could eat. Most slaves were obtained through warfare. This whole passage has a far more Babylonia view of slavery. At the beginning of Passover doesn’t the youngest child at a table ask a question about how Passover started? Perhaps the first books of the bible were written to answer that question and are more fiction than fact.
Still this passage means it’s ok to own slaves so if your an Israelite in Indiana it’s ok to hold slaves. Will folks in Indiana be confused as to what to do when some woman who has been taken into some household as a maid and not paid for years. Can devil worshipers now hold slaves for ceremonial and for profit reasons? PS some devil worshipers don’t particular want to cater to GLBT in their houses of ill repute. Sorry I forgot such places don’t exist and never have existed in Indiana because we say they don’t.
Mark Adams spews:
@1 Only if they are Hoosier Republican’s. Then they can only buy slaves in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, and Kentucky. This would be a strict constructionist interpretation of the verse. Of course it would be ok to enslave Canadians, Mexicans, illegals ect if they owe you money until the year of Jubilee.

@9 I have no idea. I once had a Stan Musial card, but the movers stole our family’s baseball cards the last time my parents moved.
