Of course they didn’t. The Bible-thumpers hadn’t showed up to berate them yet. This was a much more pleasant world then.

Wouldn’t they have been Torah thumpers?

People who don’t have belly buttons are allowed to be naked. It’s the sight of a bare navel that gets everyone going.
4
Mark Adamsspews:
So just why would a tree of knowledge create shame? Why would one care if one is naked. We have cultures on this Earth that have been very accepting of nakedness in general or at a particular time and place. You can’t have a good Roman orgy with people being overly ashamed of nakedness. The picts fought naked, and they were in Scotland. burr! As noted western bible thumpers did go out and insist people in different cultures feeling no shame in their nakedness adopt western culture.
Shame developed on the plains of Africa because we are social animals and if Adam and Eve even if they were created as social animals would have known shame even without a tree of knowledge. Eat a fig, pomegranate and suddenly one s ashamed what bullshit. It suddenly made Adam and Eve able to blush! Shame is something we humans need to know we have done something perhaps unacceptable to another family or tribal member, and it’s in our DNA.
It is not at all shameful to prance dressed or naked through the garden. The problem is only when we realize we are being watched though if we don’t perceive our privacy is disturbed we will continue prancing much to the amusement of people on the internet, or the Sony hackers. While we may feel shame all real human being have the ability to shrug and say; “So what.” I will prance as I please in the garden whether it pleases God or others or not.

Mark Adamsspews:
Actually if Eve was a redhead and suddenly blushed at her nakedness with or without a belly button Adams reaction would be to enjoy her nakedness to the upmost! Or was Adam gay?
6
Mark Adamsspews:
Hmmm if Adam were gay and Eve was a lesbian that would make sense. Then they would only engage in sex to procreate,. perhaps with great difficulty. What a disappointment to God to find his creations would not get it on, and being human he couldn’t just depend on the female going into heat and sex being a mute issue for most of the year. Wonder if he tried using disco lights? Piping in some “Dooby Brothers” over the gardens sound system, and seeing if the boogie would get some being fruitful and multiplying going. If only such a plan worked for pandas and tortoises, sigh.

Very Severe Conservativespews:
Obviously, the bible justifies public nudity! If we went to wearing just sneakers and backpacks the way god intended, it would solve much of the world’s problems.

Who was Shame–and why didn’t they feel him?

@2, not unless the world is only 2,500 years old. Hard to thump something that wasn’t written.
All of you take the bible entirely too seriously — most Christians and atheists do. The Jews, on the other hand, realize the Tanakh is part history, part legend, and part ancient Jewish law.

Mark Adamsspews:
Cool thoughts Sarah. Still there are Jews who take it seriously? And getting some of those Jewish folks who believe as you suggest to participate in the conversation, may help others folks who take the bible differently. If people have a book in the western world it’s the bible so all of us kinda need to be a bit knowledgeable. So Tanakh thoughts?
