Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

So tell me, where in the Christian, Romans bible does your Jesus give Paul the authority to say this?
Did Peter or James ever say such a thing? Was Paul’s authority supported by your putative first pope or by the fist head of Jesus’ followers after his choice of death by crucifixion?
Paul’s claims were based on his vision of someone or something to talking to him … not unlike the later claims of Joseph Smith, the Prophet Mohammed. or the Reverend Moon.

Any time someone says he or she is hearing God speak to him or her, it’s time to get the hell away from that person.

Well, If Paul is with Jesus when Jesus returns in the clouds of Glory, then Paul was right and SJ and others will be wrong wrong wrong!
Married Gay couples are exempt from this command since neither of them is the “wife”.
I’d like to point out a few things to provide some context:
1. A lot of modern Biblical scholars think Ephesians was written not by Paul but by a later author writing in Paul’s name.
2. The preceding verse says “Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.” Later on the author urges husbands to love their wives “as their own bodies,” which certainly sounds progressive for the time.
3. The undisputed letters of Paul suggest he had a more radical view of male/female equality. There is “no male or female…for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Elsewhere he describes a woman named Junia as “prominent among the apostles.” Later translators assumed Junia must be a scribal error for a man’s name and changed it to Junias.
