Yeah, Bologna is a real tough guy, pepper spraying confined, unarmed civilians and walking away. Probably tore the wings off butterflies as a kid.
That’s the problem with police – while there are certainly good and honest people striving to do good in a very difficult job – WAY too many are drawn to the power and ability to fuck with their fellow citizens with impunity. The whole notion of carrying a gun and being above accountability in all but the most egregious situations.

Roger Rabbitspews:
The New York police are doing far more to draw public attention to the Wall Street protests than the protesters ever could have done by themselves.
The protesters on Wall Street are being portrayed in the media and especially on Fox as some sort of small group of really wacky nutjobs who are against Big Business for some unknowable reason.
If one were to return police brutality in kind (which is most definitely within the capabilities of the citizenry of this country) the hue, cry, and bleating from the police would be a wonder to behold.
“You’re gonna get what’s coming
You’ve been asking for it two days running

That was how fascists treated non-violent protesters at the 2004 Republican national convention.
9
Roger Rabbitspews:
@7 “If one were to return police brutality in kind …”
That’s exactly what’s happening in Syria now, where nonviolent protest against a brutal dictatorship has turned into revolution. In Homs, Syria’s third largest city, protesters are no longer passively allowing the dictator’s police to bully, assault, and kill them. They have started shooting back, and government informers are being assassinated.
10
Gmanspews:
@7 and @9 – Violence isn’t the answer, become a homo, you will see that you don’t need to be violent to counter offense. Eye for an Eye attitude doesn’t solve anything, it might feel good, but no good comes from it. Where is god when we need him? I’ve never been to a gay pride event, but I hear they are a lot of fun, and no one gets violent.
11
Roger Rabbitspews:
@10 “you don’t need to be violent to counter offense”
Tell that to six million dead Jews.
12
Roger Rabbitspews:
Most people are missing the real significance of the police brutality in New York. What it really means is that any national political aspirations that Michael Bloomberg ever had are over. This is the New York Police Department. As mayor of New York, he’s ultimately responsible for what the city’s police do to its citizens. Bloomberg recently has been talking up the drop in crime rates. Whatever mileage he got from that just crumbled in his hands like a stale cookie.
13
Gmanspews:

18
Roger Rabbitspews:
@13 There’s a difference between instigating violence and self-defense. The latter has been recognized as legitimate by virtually all societies throughout recorded human history.
An eye for an eye looks pretty good when compared to:
Romans kill Jesus, Christian revenge takes millions of Jewish lives.
Indians defend their land in South Carolina, Andrew Jackson leads the Christians to kill millions of Cherokee.
El Qaeda takes out 3,000 Americans, GW Bush takes his Christian revenge on several hundred thousand Iraquis.
and so it goes, and so it goes.
I am what am.
20
Gmanspews:
@18 – there is a difference between self defense and retaliation, the later can be mistaken as self defense.
21

@19 – Thank You God. When you going to show up for good? Puddynutz is waiting for you.
22
Gmanspews:
@16 – hey mookie spookie, I just finished one of my paintings, have a look. All I had to do is type in “man kills wife” in my Google search bar. My next one will not take long to finish.
@14 That’s a pithy question that brings up a subject deserving closer examination than it gets from decision makers, media, or public.
History teaches us that most wars are ineffective. Wars hardly ever accomplish their stated aims, typically go off the rails very quickly, and habitually bite their instigators in the ass.
Napoleon lost. The Confederates lost. The Germans lost twice. The Japanese lost. The Chinese were pushed back in Korea. French and American armies were driven out of Vietnam. The Soviets were evicted from Afghanistan. Saddam Hussein’s invasions of Iran and Kuwait were defeated. Bush got humiliated in Iraq. And so on.
Basing policy on military force has such an abysmal track record of failure one wonders why anyone still resorts to it.

@22 And you’re sure no gay has ever killed his partner? I don’t think this is an orientation problem, it seems to be more of a human nature problem. Rabbits don’t do this sort of thing. All we do is rip off patches of fur and gouge each other’s eyes out after a long winter of being cooped up in the same burrow.

@22 & @27 – No, I’m sure it has happened, everything has happened at least once. But you are missing the point, that it happens every day with heterosexuals, you are more violent individuals. Gay people aren’t running around killing, raping and beating people up like heterosexuals. Who are the bullies, the gay people? Own it.
@27 – you are not worth replying to but….yeah, all child molesters are gay men. no heterosexuals are raping and molesting kids or abusing kids. Again, Own it.
Are women or men more prone to violence? I’m not saying you will not find any violent women, you will, but who is more prone to violence, men or woman? Fags are more like woman, right? Right.

I saw a recent special about the end of DADT on HBO. John McCain behaved attrociously when Admiral Mullen testified that he thought gays serving in the military was OK. After all, gays have always been in the US military. Admiral Mullen was just recognizing reality. McCain on the other hand, is living in another era. In my last post of this subject, I suggested McCain take his Navy pension, his Senate pension, and his wife’s fortune and just retire to Arizona and live comfortably. I add to that now that he should just go home and shut up.

The question the demonstators in New York (and possibly elsewhere) have to wrestle with is: Are the police being police, or are they being soldiers? If the former, the principle we’re all told to follow is to under any and all circumstances obey commands from a police officer–it’s his job to maintain the peace and apprehend criminal suspects for subsequent determination of guilt or innocence in court.
If on the other hand, the police have been ordered to be soldiers and you have been declared to be the enemy (or they’ve made that decision on their own), it’s entirely another story. Then, it’s not an unreasonable assumption that they will hurt you, deprive you of your rights or even kill you even if you co-operate, and how you choose to defend yourself under such a circumstance might fall outside the code of behavior for “law abiding citizens”. If this is what indeed is going on, this is more than a political demonstration. It’s quite possibly the initial skirmish of a civil war.
