Nahum 1:2-8
The Lord is a jealous God, filled with vengeance and rage. He takes revenge on all who oppose him and continues to rage against his enemies! The Lord is slow to get angry, but his power is great, and he never lets the guilty go unpunished. He displays his power in the whirlwind and the storm. The billowing clouds are the dust beneath his feet. At his command the oceans dry up, and the rivers disappear. The lush pastures of Bashan and Carmel fade, and the green forests of Lebanon wither. In his presence the mountains quake, and the hills melt away; the earth trembles, and its people are destroyed. Who can stand before his fierce anger? Who can survive his burning fury? His rage blazes forth like fire, and the mountains crumble to dust in his presence. The Lord is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in him. But he will sweep away his enemies in an overwhelming flood. He will pursue his foes into the darkness of night.

    So, this means “God” is a nasty, vindictive bastard with anger management issues? Sounds like a long term untreated alcohol problem. Perhaps he was beaten too hard, too many times by his ol man fior too much stupid shit. I know a lotta dudes like this. Most of them are in and out of jail for shit like beating their wives and kids and starting fights in bars ‘n whatnot. Prisons are full of people like this.

    So, “God” really is just an asshole who should be locked up to prevent him from hurting any more people. This is what the three strikes laws are all about.

    Karl Rove is not a Mormon or any type of Christian believer according to the google lists and Wikipedia, Rove has not religious affiliation. He is an atheist.

    “…He comes from Utah. Is he a Mormon? Is he religious? What’s his religious background?

    Karl was born in Denver but grew up really in Utah, in this area where almost everybody was Mormon, and he was not. He would see it almost every day in high school in a situation where students who were Mormon would go across the street for an hour of Mormon training, while the non-Mormon kids, the minority, would stay behind in study hall.

    His family was not very religious. He grew up, he admits, in a nonreligious household. And even during his political career very early on, when I first met him in the middle ’80s, it was clear that religion was not something that was particularly important to him.     Karl Rove has ne3ver said he is an atheist. His official religion is Anglican. Lok it up.

    Gandhi was never a devout Hindo in the sense you mean. He followed Hundu practic3e .. that does not say what, if any gods, he believed in.

    Trotsky considered himself a Jew .. certainly NOT by race. He also knew that there was no God.

    More importantly, Gandhi was very much NOT a christian .. if he were a devout Hindu then that would make him an idolater along with the Roamns who killed your God.

    If you rank the worst people of mall time, I see no way this would not include a huge majority of god believing Christians folks like the huge bulk of the SS and the Concentration Camp guards, Jefferson Davis, Governor Stephens of our own state, Franco, Andrew Jackson, Columbia, the conquistadors, the crusaders, Joe McCarthy, Peter the terrible, the IRA, the witch burners, the apartheid crew in South Africa ….. moreover most of these folks id their atrocities in the name of Jesus!

    Seems to me that you should not have to demonize atheists to justify your own beliefs. If Jesus does exist, I hardly think he would want you to do that.

    My comments about his exploitation and advancement of Christian tribalism, however, stand.

    If your religion or religiosity leads you to love and joy, and promoting more love and joy in the world, affirming all people’s essential goodness and making the world a better, more peaceful place, if it leads you to craft a society that educates all of our kids, protects our environment, takes good care of the least among us – then good on you.

    However, those are my goals and aspirations, and I do not believe in a god.

    One does not need a god to do the right thing, to live the golden rule. One does not need a god to be motivated by love or by respect for the inherent respectablity of every human, and indeed, of our world as a whole.
    Approaching life with humility, with the desire to do good, with the expectation of goodness in others and the commitment to make the right choices when confronted with the opportunity to do harm – one does not need a god to approach life in this way. If your god helps you do this – great, keep up the good work.

    However, demonizing – that word is especially important in this discussion – those of us who do not interpret the world as you do (I would say those of us who do not engage in mythologizing) is incredibly dangerous, and sets you off in the direction of the people who build concentration camps.

    Sorry for what sounds like hyperbole, but drawing lines you seem to be drawing is the first step in making me a second or third class citizen, and I’ll have none of that.

    Obama & his wife have repeatedly stated they are “Christians”. How come they aren’t on the list? And Jimmy Carter. Al Gore, John Edwards. The list goes on & on. So what? Our faith should impact how we approach things and make decisions as do those who claim to worship no God (but themselves and their understand and the understanding of scientists)
    Here is the definition of “worship”

    to render religious reverence and homage to.
    to feel an adoring reverence or regard for (any person or thing).

    You see we all have the free will to worship whatever or whomever we choose. But we ALL worship someone or something by our thoughts and actions. To deny this is futile.
    So what do you worship?

    SJ Many atheists demonize themselves and Christians for their religious beliefs.

    I have met atheists who not only are intolerant of anyone who has Christian beliefs, but verbally attack and demonize all Christians.
