Regarding charity… Jesus rejects it if you do things for selfish reasons. If J is a swear word, what do the YHVH letters means? For about 2000 years, Adonai (Lord) is said wherever the letters YHVH appear in texts. This is done to avoid attempting to give a name to God. In the Torah, when Moses asks God what His name is, he replies “I am the I am” .. not “Well Moishe, you can call me YHVH.”
Oj avoid the issue by using “Hashem.” Hashem means simply the name and is used normally in speech.

Allah itself is derived from “El.” Use of El by Mohamed suggests to me that in the 600s monotheists (as opposed to Christians) refered to Hashem as “El” .. a generic term rather tha a name. If the Jews of Medina had called God “J”, it seems likely the Prophet would have used that word rather than Allah.
As for who “God” really is, I suspect you know. Be careful, God is vengeful!

Do my charities pay off? No, nothing we donate has a direct impact on my finances. I think you know that my favorite charity is Doctors without Borders. I also donate some money to schpareship funds at the UW and elsewhere. This past year we made specific donations to releif in Haiti.
We are mendacious enough to take a deduction for our contributions to the Shul, but I do not regard that as charity any more than I consider buying you a beer an act of charity.
